Please Maxis, change the sims 4 save file system

I recently ran into an issue where I attempted to clear out some of the files in my saves folder, but in part due to the fact that the game saves them as a number rather than by the name that we chose in game for the file I ended up deleting a file I didn't mean to.

Please in a patch in the near future fix this issue. The files in our sims folders should have some easily discernible title that allows us to differentiate which file is which. Especially since the folder stockpiles saves like it's going out of style (there are 36 different sets of saves currently in my folder whereas in game I only have around 6 save games meaning it's holding onto records of saves I've deleted in game).

yes, please! I have asked for this numerous times in the guru threads. Give the computer files the same names as the game save files. There are any number of reasons a player might want to know which file is which: disposing of old files like you said, creating duplicate saves in case of computer/game melt-down, using a copy of a save to try out ideas without the risk of accidentally saving over your original. The list goes on.

Not everyone plays one save, one game. I have at least 20 games going. It's impossible to know which game I was playing on what date.

I agree totally. It should be like we have in TS3. I give each save a unique name. Easy to track. Why on earth did they change it to this numbers system?

Yep, those .var0-5 are previous saves of that same game ... which is incredibly useful, as it means you have 5 stages you can back up to if things go wrong in your game file. But nothing about "var" seems to be helping users to understand this. I see a lot of people feel they need to do something extra to have backups, when the game is doing it for them, to a point.

I agree with this 100000% lol

I always end up just saving the entire save folder because I also have numerous games ongoing

If I save my game as (for instance) Morgan 112 then id like to see Morgan 112 when I go into the saves folder ... simplicity itself and it worked perfectly in TS3

Oh this would be so handy. When I had to go back to a previous save, I made a a copy of the entire save folder because I was sure that I would stuff it up by selecting the wrong save or something. I chose the right save the first time, but really it was just a lucky guess.

When you are looking at the save files with a calm and collected mind, it might be easier to work it all out. But when you are looking at it all through tears and in a panic because your kid saved (by accident) a new game he has spent 20 minutes on, over the top of the game you have spent many many hours on, it is harder to sort it all out.

It was actually the link in your sig Luthienrising, that helped me in that traumatic time, :D I did a Google search and a post of yours popped up - so, thank you!

I made the mistake of clearing out some of the saves in the Sims 4 folder, I lost everything.

I do hope it can be tweaked, it's very confusing for me at the moment.

@SimGuruBChick wrote a post about how autosave works, but it doesn't go into those extra back-saves and how life-saving they can be (if only they were more user-friendly and accessible). Here's that post:

And here's what she said in another when I asked her about rolling back files:

@SimGuruBChick, it appears in the Saves file that there are many autosaves, but they can only be accessed by changing the file name. That's how I was able to roll back so far. The explanation and screen shots are in the following thread. Is this consistent with what you just said, or am I missing something?

That is consistent. What I posted is how to access the current Auto Save. The thread you mention is about how to access older Auto Saves if you need to. However, if you explicitly save regularly, you shouldn't ever need to access the older Auto Saves. Hope that makes sense.

@SimGuruBChick, it does make sense, but a lot of people don't save as compulsively as I do. User-friendly access to older autosaves would be really useful for them, without having to know much about file management or renaming files. I mean, as long as they're there, why not make them easily available?

ETA: Hmm. Did they change something? I didn't have the option to "Preview" this post.
