Make Collectibles/Craftables More Interactive, Useful and Unique.

Maybe I'm just too used to playing an RPG where you USE ACTUAL RESOURCES TO CRAFT NEW OBJECTS, but... There are so many ways we could craft things in this game, and we could use some of our collectibles too.

I remember collecting gems and metals in TS3 and thinking to myself "Why can't I make a necklace out of these?" EA could make a Jewelry Bench that allows you to make jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, watches, earrings, tiaras etc) from a design blueprint (unlocked via levels/careers/events/finding blueprints), collected metal(s) and collected gem(s)

Make the collectible/garden flowers useful with a Florist Bench, so you need not just the level, but the supplies. Be able to buy basic quality supplies with Simoleans or collect/grow better quality flowers that sell for higher prices and give better environmental/emotional score. Allow the flower arrangements to be placed in bought and crafted vases and bowls.

Return the Pottery Wheel, but improve the ability to choose the glaze colour with a type of CASt system, maybe allow embelishments by embedding gems and shells or trimming with metals. Allow vases/bowls to be used to hold flower arrangements from the Florist Bench, allow bowls to hold fruit.

Sewing Machine could recolour bedcovers, curtains, tapestries, rugs, throws, upholstery and clothes using in a mini-CASt process, and new patterns (blueprints) could be unlocked that are unique to this object. Fabrics could be ordered online, or woven on a new Loom object (fancier patterns take more skill). Colours could be unlocked by collecting certain ores or plants for dye.

Bakers and Nectar-Makers could collect recipes, edibles and herbs from around the world on vacation and design their own cakes appearance and nectar bottles. (shape/colour/name)

All this would work best after an OFB type expansion so that your sims can specialise and sell to/buy from other sims, else they will have a lot of crafts to master.

I know there are other crafts from the series that I haven't mentioned, but I think you get the idea. I want to bring object and clothes recolouring into the game as a feature. Modders can add to it even further by creating new items (meshes) to craft and new textures to apply to them.

Please comment with your additions or suggestions.

I love this idea! I've never been interested in the collectibles, and that's probably because once you get them there's nothing to do with them. Lol.

I especially like your flower arranging idea - I would use that all the time.

LOVE all these ideas! I love having my sims explore and collect, so the jewelry-making and flower-arranging would be amazing! Especially if we can then wear, sell, or gift the stuff our sims make or use it in their houses. I'd be in love! Let's hope (fingers crossed)....

One idea, kind of along these lines, that I've always had is a better, more customizable way to frame the paintings and photographs our sims make. How cool would it be to choose the frame (wood/metal/plastic in chooseable or customizable colors and with different designs--from mod to elegant to ornately Baroque--with possibly different mat colors, too) to hang it in your sim's home? Or sell. And if we could import our own images (like Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' or Vermeer's 'Girl w/ a Pearl Earring', for example)--I would be in serious Sim Heaven! o:)

Yeah, flowers/jewelry would make great giftables. Different flowers have traditional meaning, and gems have different New Age energies too. EA could draw on this info and allow receiving/displaying/wearing these items to produce an appropriate response.

EG: Yellow roses for friendship, would increase friendliness with the giver a little when received or viewed, or give a happy buff like reminiscing about a memory. (Would only effect the recipient on viewing).

A Get Well Soon flower arrangement may reduce the duration of an illness buff.

Jewelry should supply a low emotional buff related to the gem/metal used. Or have it related to the cut of the gem so that you can choose the colour. Would be stronger with matching sets. You could have red/pink Flirty Heart-cut Ruby/Amethyst jewelry for dates, or black Sad Tear-drop Jet/Haematite jewelry for mourning.

I can really get behind this idea! I loved collecting metals back in TS3 and it would be awesome if I could use them to craft unique interactive items or at the very least a more "expensive" version of an item (i.e. a cheap starter sofa that's remade as a solid gold one)

    Great idea!

Peripheral yet related: It would be nice if the woodworking items were more comfortable/gave better room scores than what they do. Handcrafted items should be very special, just like paintings are. Of course, skill level counts, but even at the highest level of handiness the woodwork stuff is not that great.

Wow, I love this idea even more! I make jewelry IRL, so I have a ton of knowledge about color and gemstone history/meanings/properties if EA needs it. ;) Great idea to have the items affect moods and emotions somewhat.

Love these ideas - I had thought about a sewing machine that allows you to make new outfits; maybe a loom or something where you can make tapestries and rugs. I also think there should be some kind of in-game marketplace generated by other sims (and added to by your own) with new photographs, paintings, sculptures, inventions etc that you can buy to decorate your home - I'm not talking about the online EA store where you buy stuff with credits, I mean more like a shop within your own game.

I'd also like to have more customisable options when painting - more choice in canvas orientation and size, and especially in colour theme (eg black and white, neutrals, warm colours, cool colours).
