I think many of them do, yes. I don't think they'd be developing a game which they don't have interest in. Being an inspired developer myself, I know I wouldn't want to be working on a game I don't care about. You could bring money into this, theorizing that they're only in it for the money. Though isn't that what jobs are for? Earning money? I'm not necessarily defending all the devs, we know that this game isn't perfect. It isn't what we wanted and it let most of us down. But I'm sure some developers on this team worked their butts off, and they had a vision of a sims game that would give us some wow factor. I do believe some of the devs really care about where the game goes, and they play it like their fans. Devs aren't robots (well most of them aren't anyway, least I hope not), there does need to be appreciation for hard work. For instance when I'm a developer on a game in which I genuinely care about and want to succeed, it would suck to see the fans saying that ALL the team didn't work hard enough or they're a terrible dev just because you didn't get what you wanted as a player. But taking that job as a developer, you're made to understand and acknowledge your mistakes.
Which a lot of the sims team needs to do, they need to acknowledge that this game isn't 100%. I know it's in base game stages right now, which is why it does have some potential. It still has time to fix itself, though we have to understand that some things which we want in the game won't happen. It's sad, but true. Toddlers for example are a possibility, but I don't see it happening. The game is (I believe) focused and based on young adults. The game has it's limits, which we can already see at this point. Loading screens will always remain in the game, they can't possibly remove them.
With potential in mind, future EP's will bring more worlds and new things to do which will actually make loading screens worth the time. I remember with TS2 and TS3 base games, I got bored very quickly. Even with toddlers, though I can't say the same for family players who love to have family trees and various life stages in their game. I want to say that this game still has a chance, we as fans do get impatient and we need to give the devs truthful and honest criticism where it's needed.
(Sorry rant over)
Agreed, but if I were a dev, I would like to observe my game and feel happy that i turned it into something amazing!!
I would have to disagree with them being more interested in playing Dragon Age. Mainly because the Dragon Age game is made by Bioware. Now the devs that work on The Sims at Maxis may play Dragon Age for fun, and some inspiration for stuff to put in The Sims.
I really don't think they do. Some of the bugs in this game are just too obvious to not be noticed by someone who actually plays the game. I think the only time they play is during their twitch broadcasts, and even then they're not really playing.
I know some play it for fun in their own time. I get the impression others just play it to test things or whatever as part of their job. I do feel some of the gurus understand the fans more than others. That's not to say the others don't try, I think most do a good job of listening to us. It's our job to explain what we like clearly too. It's no good saying 'I want business features' for example, because it could be interpreted in many ways. Whereas if we say, 'I want to have shops where I can sell things, hire employees, and restock the shelves like in TS2 Open for Business', then that is much clearer.
Well if I was a developer I would play with my work.
technically they play it it while they make it. testing making sure things work right.
remember they have the most powerful computers so they won't see the bugs or glitches.
The Devs I know do play the games they develop and they play them straight along the side of the consumer player. I also know that GMs (game masters) play the game they are working for as well.
From 'meet the gurus' and over conversations they DO or DID play The Sims. The large majority have a soft spot for the game and you can tell they are very dedicated.
I remember one saying that when testing TS4 they'd repeat certain interactions, trying to push it to it's limits in testing where it probably became quite tiresome and boring haha. So I wouldn't see them playing it in their free time. Who would blame them? Lol.

Anyone who has looked deeply into game development can't blame them either.

My Mood:
Those were really touching first world problems.
I can imagine they don't play it the way we do by the way.
They all should be married to someone who does though...
Haha a simmer dating service? Lol
