I was very disappointed with the how the game turned out and for that I didn't buy it.
I will however wait a while to see if any good expansion packs turn up.
Also keep in mind EA has "warned" us that if the Sims 4 does not do well, they will not create a Sims 5.
:(
So I'm hoping the Sims 4 will rank up once a few expansion packs come out.

I'm also a builder and I get bored of generic game-play very quickly.
For me, if they turned around and said the "stuff packs" would be free updates or would be included in expansion packs, I would be happy. I never see the point in the stuff packs (in my opinion) and would rather see EA update the game more and give us little treats from time to time. This would be the perfect opportunity for them to regularly fix bugs. Oh the bugs!
Apart from that they need to let you do more in game. Obviously this is the base game and we shouldn't really expect the world on a plate this early on but still, it certainly feels like a lot has been left out on purpose to generate more revenue later on.
And family trees.
A few normal carriers.
new aspirations and traits.
A new neighbourhood.
So what can they do?
They have to do something about the abysmal world design. That is first and foremost. They have to find a way to open it up more and they have to make it bigger. This world 99% backdrop and 1% content. I bought the base game but I'm not sure I'm willing to buy expansion packs for a world that is 1 lot larger.
They have to restore family play. This will feed back into world design. There is really no point in having a whole family of sims when I can really only play one at a time unless they're on the same lot. Toddlers need to return. I loved that if I gave my sim pink hair, her child could have pink hair. Now if I have a pink haired sim, her children can't inherit that. What's up with that?
Open resturents
An Open Movie Theater
Cars
Dance Clubs,bowling alleys etc
Holidays
The Slowdance and more romantic socials.''
Story Progression
We already have teens but I'd love for the prom to return and a hangout were only teens show up.
I do not think it is perfect though; it's good, not excellent yet.
Add cars, family trees, seasons, toddlers and make it so no loading is needed to visit a lot in the neighbourhood where you already are and I will be utterly satisfied.
I did buy the game, gave it my best shot, and glad I did. I do like playing it, it just doesn't hold my interest long. I was/am disappointed but its not a gamestopper for me. I am not giving up on it. I am waiting for more stuff to come out so I can enjoy it for longer periods of time.
Not in my game
I have Babies (I think that´s what they are), Children, Young Adults, Young Adults, Adults and Elders.

Well teens with a correct height would be nice.
A list of things that I think would make things better?
-Teens that actually look like teens
-Weather!!! Snow! Holidays!!!!!!
-Family Trees!
-Automatic and untriggered romantic interactions with couples (Such as holding hands while walking and cuddling in their sleep)
-LOTS more careers!
-More personality traits..
-Custom hair color builder (Like the create a pattern in sims 3?)
-Less yellow skin-tones.
Why do they need to eat? Aren´t they dead? What is the point of having a ghost in your household if they are just a regular sim that doesn´t age?
Will this be the case with the other supernaturals as well? I really didn´t like them in S3. They were just ordinary sims.
Why do they need to be so restricted? Why has ghosts been restricted? Why the need of balance?
Give me ghosts that are ghosts and not sims wearing a transparent sheet.
Other than those things, the way the game is now, I don't know that much could be added to it to please me. But what I was hoping for was everything you know and love about the Sims but added to, improved and taken to the next level.
The Sims 1 was a great game by the standards of its time. When Sims 2 was released, it was a huge improvement on Sims 1 and added many features to Sims 1 that we had been hoping for. After playing the Sims 2, I never felt a need to return to Sims 1. There was nothing I missed. However, I never really got into the Sims 3 like I did 2. I liked a lot of the new features such as more sliders in CAS and CAST. And I liked the open world for its visual benefits and the elimination of loading screens, but I didn't like how that affected extended families. If I moved a sim out the house, yes I could still play them separately, but they wouldn't maintain their family relationships the same way as in Sims 2. That for me was a big turn off because I really enjoyed creating big, multi-generational families.
I really wish I could take the features of Sims 3 that I like and add them to Sims 2. The same with Sims 4. Build mode is an improvement and I like that sims are more dynamic, but again, those are features that I wish I could take and add to the Sims 2.
EA would have to completely change the way the game is played so that there are multiple paths to achieve any and every task. They would have to open up the world at least a little so that you didn't get a loading screen for every single lot (I could accept maybe every district/ sub-hood). They would have to institute a color-wheel or CASt option (either way would take the same amount of work). They'd have to add Toddlers, change babies back into Sims, do something to differentiate Teens and Elders from other age-states. They have to stabilize emotions, differentiate Sims based on their Traits and eliminate locked objects (or at least drastically limit them).
In other words, they would have to build on the foundation of *ALL* previous iterations of the game, TS1, TS2 and TS3.
And that isn't what TS4 is. TS4 is a MMO engine jerry-rigged to work single-player, offline.
So I guess I'll just wait for TS5.
Family Trees.
TODDLERS.
Teens.
Basements.
Attics.
No play-doh hair.
More family interactions.
More careers.
This is all I can think for now
Slowdance
Holidays and festivals with food carts (hot dogs, ice cream, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, etc.)
SEASONS! (If nothing else the weather effects shouldn't cause as much lag as with the open world)
Dance clubs
Bowling alleys
Singing skill
Open restaurants, theatres, bakeries
Fencing (I voted for it in TS3 but we didn't get it in the renaissance fair venue)
Trampolines, Slides & Swingsets (do we have swings?)
Basements (This is on my must haves list)
Split levels & stairs with landings
Elevators (also a must)
Spiral stairs & curved/grand staircases
Pool slides and DIVING BOARDS!
Graphic Design, & Animator careers (because that's what I do and I was upset when University Life only gave us game design in that field)
The list will probably expand later, but they DId give us some things I really wanted in TS3 and couldn't get so those have made the starting list much shorter
This.
And a controlled story progression. Check boxes for yeas and nays.
I'm not really all about zodiacs, but I liked when sims were attracted to certain aspects in another sim.
If they could revamp that and make it more... realistic and not all over the place I think that'd be cute.
also this.
Totally agree with that. Story progression is lacking by like waayyy too much. I want an option to have story progression because I seriously hate having to jump from family to family so they can get careers and have a love life.
Also I really liked the way they did romance in Sims 2. I want the whole "No chemistry, crushes, etc" back. Cause I found it a challenge when I tried to get two sims together cause they didn't have chemistry. I hate how easy it is to take a sim away from another sim.
