    It's really widespread.
I suspect a lot of people aren't noticing yet because (a) they don't look at townies so much and (b) there's a propensity to make men with broad square jaws (I remember someone commenting about that being evident in the Gallery shortly after the demo release).

Also we need to be asking why they don't limit new users and stop letting them post avatars and create threads. I think no more than one new thread and 5 posts daily for new users till they read 50 posts or more. Or after so many people flag a post it just shuts that user off till further review. But I don't want to take this thread off topic, just annoyed with some of the glaring issues they aren't addressing.

Don't forget to mention that it's not just happening in CAS or with your own Sims that age up. It is so widespread that even the Sims the game randomly generates (or unplayed households aging up) are all looking the same. I posted three images showing randomly generated young male Sims who all had the small eyes, big jaws, and ears that was showing in the CAS aging.

I'm afraid they will fix one issue and forget that it's happening to the male Sims across the board.

Yeah I hope they notice and move quickly because it removes the joy from generational play for me and probably many others.

So messing around in CaS I found a different issue. Adult and young adult are fine, the teen is what is messed up for me. The eyes shrink and the face/jaw widens.
  • simspeaker4simspeaker4 Posts: 5,999 Member
That's really plum. Is it only happening to the males in your games? We should call it the 'Simsburg face' - inspired by genetic glitches like this guy.

Okay so I took some CAS photos of some sims I just randomly created. I do see a difference, but I think it's always been this way in my game. So is this what you guys are talking about or is this normal?

These 2 first sims were created first as teens and then aged to adults.

    SimAgeTest2_zpsf411245a.png

Oddly, this last sim was first created as a young-adult, then back-aged to teen. (Eyes got smaller, chin wider.) Then returned to normal as a young-adult. Then did it again aged to an adult.

Those are variations I can live with. Do this picture comparison. Make a young adult, take a pic, make it a child, take a pic, make it a young adult again, take a pic. I think it might be the child stage making the biggest difference.

And that's the glitch. I never realized anything was wrong because I thought my sims' eyes and jaw were changing due to age and then I experimented in CAS by taking a YA down to a teen and the eyes and jaw changed then too. That's when I realized it wasn't natural progression at all, but some kind of bug going on. This upsets me because the "pudding face" bug in TS3 almost ruined the game for me. I was constantly using the testingcheatsenabled cheat to change up townie features because they all looked the same. I don't want to do that with TS4. It's ridiculous! One of the things I was most excited for was the genetics and now that's borked! They NEED to fix it. If they leave it just like they did with TS3 then I can guarantee that this will be the last EA game I purchase.

No. You are wrong. It also happens if you de-age a sim. And some time ago, it didn't happen at all.

Now the game only generates wide-jawed sims with small eyes, of any age.

Your sims look normal and not affected by the glitch. Lucky you.

If it's not fixed, I won't be able to go on playing. I didn't create 120 sims for the game to bork them all (or at least the half male quota).

I imagine it would eventually transfer into the female population too, if the small eyes are part of the fathers' genetics. Eventually everyone in town would have small eyes.

That's exactly what's happened to my female child Sim. Her father was affected with boulder-jaw and squinty-eye syndrome. Unfortunately for her, she took after her father's genes and ended up looking like this.

Yeesh if the eyes are supposed to get smaller as she ages, I'm scared to see her as a teenager. Will she even have eyes?!

Tried it and my young-adult looked exactly the same when I aged him back up. (It was similar to my last picture, where the larger jaw and smaller eyes were seen in the teen, but not the young-adult.)

I was just playing in CAS on a savegame I hadn't touched since September, and that hadn't been touched by the game between then and now (I'd moved it). I'm getting weird jaw reshaping as the main thing, only aging from child or teen up, not from previously existing YAs up or down. I could probably go back into an earlier version of today's savegame for contrasting game aging of some same local Sims before I edited them, but I really should go to bed. Might do that over morning coffee, though! I can sure say that Malcolm Landgraab of September did not come out square jawed, but he did in October starting over! Also, I had a lot more interesting face variety in the game-generated Sims. I've got Old Malcolm saved now and will grab New, Square-Jawed Malcolm tomorrow.
