Two stage authentication

I like the security two stage authentication affords, but I only ever sign in from either my phone or my laptop. Shouldn't it be able to recognize those? Shouldn't it only ask for the second code if you sign in from somewhere else? It's a pain having to find and enter the second code every time.

Also, is staying logged in all the time advisable? I have seen posts recommending this as a way to tell if someone is trying to use your account.
