The Rosemir Legacy

And now for a project completely different from For Love Or Money. In FLOM, my focus is story first, gameplay second. Here, though? Those roles will be swapped completely.

The way I intend to write and photograph The Rosemir Legacy is as if we are (mostly) exploring each heir or heiress journal. There will still be snippets of dialog and story based screnes when I *can* plan something, but much of the time what I will be sharing is the heir or heiress' reactions to what is happening to them and around them.

And now, let me introduce my founder: Katryn Rosemir.

Aspiration: Fabulously Wealthy

Traits: Geek, Genius, Ambitious

Backstory:

A fish out of water...

Katryn comes from a line of mystics, herbalists and witches known as the Rosemir clan. She was raised in an isolated mountain village far from the hustle and bustle of Willow Creek or Oasis Springs.

Katryn spent her early childhood in Moonlight Falls with her parents. Unfortunately, one of her mother's spells went horribly wrong and the Rosemir clan stepped in, claiming Katryn as their own.

Having lived in both a (semi) normal town and the highly isolated Village, Katryn's social skills and ideals can be a little...strange. But after what happened to her parents, she is adamantly determined that she will not follow in her Nana and aunt Natalia's footsteps as the clan's Matriarch.

Instead, Katryn has set her sights on what she feels are far more sensible, realistic goals. She wants to do programming for a major software company, and ideally aspires to eventually run her own gaming company. While it's been a long time since Katryn has played games, she remembers them fondly as something she loved 'before the accident'.

Natalia Rosemir has granted her niece the clan's blessing to leave the village and pursue her dreams, provided that she will carry the Rosemir name forward with her. While the members of the Village do not have any desire to allow people to discover their fabled home, they realize that having a trusted ally in the outside world is a smart move.

Will Katryn's memories give her the strength needed to survive in the open world, or will the years she spent in isolation prove to be her undoing? Will she be able to meet Natalia's demand that the Rosemir name be brought forward, or will love completely elude her?

Prepare to find out everything you ever wanted to know--and possibly some you didn't--about Katryn Rosemir and her family in The Rosemir Legacy!

Succession Laws:

Katryn tends to turn a blind eye to the mysterious and often bizarre things that her family does. However, she is not fool enough to needlessly incur their wrath. With Natalia's condition that Katryn continue the Rosemir line, even if she is living in the modern world, there are some observances which must be adhered to.

Gender Law: Matriach

The leaders of the Rosemir are almost always women. The clan is not fool enough to abjectly refuse a male leader in times when the current Matriach has failed to conceive a female child, but the male heir is expected to listen to imput from the Circle, and to make bearing a legitimate Matriach his utmost priority. He is a bridge between Matriarchs, not a replacement for one. His sole reason for being 'heir' is to ensure the purity of the Rosemir bloodline.

Bloodline Law: Strict Traditional

The only situation more dire than for a Matriarch to bare only male children would be for her to bare no children at all. Within the Rosemir Clan, there are sacred magics which can be used to transfer the powers of Matriarch between members of the Circle. Out in the real world, though? Katryn and her legacy will be on their own.

The reason for such strict adherance to this law is that the Rosemir believe that blood carries magic. And while Katryn doesn't necessarily 100% buy into that idea, she does know that the Rosemir would not accept an outsider without Rosemir blood. She also knows that to fail to continue the line would be to break her agreement with Natalia. Not a smart idea.

Heir Law: Merit

Among the Rosemir, rank and privilege are not determined by order of birth, personal favoritism or the ways of the Warrior. Rather, it is Knowledge, Talent and Skill that the people of the Village prize most dearly. Potential Martiarchs begin their training practically from birth, learning a wide range of skills that will benefit them and the clan. Whichever potential Matriarch proves to be the most knowledgeable, resourceful, charismatic and skillful will without fail take the title. Being the Matriarch of the Rosemir and their Village is no small feet, after all.

For Katryn's purposes, this method of choosing an heir seems surprisingly practical. Why shouldn't the person who has worked the hardest, contributed the most, and who has the most to offer be rewarded for their ambition? All of these rituals and idealisms and traditions give Katryn a headache, but the thought that drive and hard work should be rewarded is the one aspect of the Succession Law with which she can honestly say she agrees.

Please feel free to visit The Rosemir Legacy on it's blogspot page. There are still parts of the blog which are under construction, but Katryn's first three journal entries are up and ready to go!

Thanks for taking a look. Have a nice day! :)
