Issues with brightness when recoloring?

Hey guys!

I made my first piece of cc ever (I'm happy even though it's just a layer of a pattern haha!)

The thing is, I seem to be having some issues with brightness and contrast in Photoshop CC.
I put over the pattern on the texture and at first the color from the previous dress would show through (solved this by using desaturate)
However, the pattern would still show up way too dark.
I fiddled around with brightness & contrast but I couldn't get the true color I wanted.

Any tips to make the true colors from the pattern show up when recoloring?

What layer combining mode were you using?

Messing with those (and Opacity) is most likely the way to get what you want.

I think I used soft light and opacity on around 60-70 but in the end I had to play around with brightness. I think the 'base color' of the dress is recolored was too dark.

Have you tried blending options like screen or hue or something. Sometimes I get lucky when I use blending options in photoshop and get something that looks better than I could ever imagine.

Yeah I scrolled through all blending options but I still wanted the shading and such from the base dress to come through.
