Why do my pets keep vanishing in TS2? === They came back

I am playing a family who runs their own business out of their home. So far I have adopted two kittens, shortly after I get them into the home they are gone. They are not even in the side panel where the family is at. This last kitten was left in the yard, as they normally are when they are first show up. I then had my sim place the kitten on the porch so they can get into the home. The moment my sim places the kitten on the floor it vanishes....poof....gone. I have not sold the kittens either, it's just one moment they are there and then the next moment nothing.

Update.

I'm not sure what happened, but when I left the house and came back the kittens were back.
