Any help would be appreciated, sims 2 resolution

So I got my new laptop, reinstalled my sims 2 games, and the resolution wont go about 800x600 I think it is.
I found a solution on simsvip, followed the instructions fine but when it came to saving the changes it says I don't have permission to save to this location and would I like to save to my documents instead.
I am the administrator, ah the frustration. Any help would be so appreciated.
