Sims 4 Concerns (Dislikes Only)

«13
Just for the sake of being fair, here it is. Let me please state that this is not a place to be hateful~ This is a place to discuss features that you don't like about or are missing from TS4.

Of course, you are free to post as you like, but please stay on topic and be as civil as you can be (I have faith in you). And, no, don't feel bad if you post in the "positive only" threads too~ You can be looking forward to the game and still not like certain aspects. After all, you shouldn't be made to feel that you have to "pick a side." :)

For instance, I may be looking forward to the game, but I don't like that they had to take the open world out. I've said in the past that it didn't have to do much with my gameplay, and that's still true, but I feel like with the new worlds it would have been amazing. :( And I mean I know it's been harped on, but I'm disappointed they had to take pools out as well. I'm hoping we can see them in the future~

If there are things you're looking forward to about the Sims, please go to this thread and discuss there (and please stay on topic~)

Um...I'm not sure if this thread will get deleted immediately because of the title? But I hope it won't~ It wasn't meant to cause any offense. :) I just want to state again that this thread was made for the sake of being fair and hopefully discouraging future arguments~

Do I sound like an after-school special yet?

Quick edit to clarify something I said up at the top of the post! Just in case. :) As I said, my goal is to try not to make anyone upset, so I feel like I should be crystal clear with what I'm saying!

What I mean by "this is not a place to be hateful," I'm merely requesting that we not be hateful towards one another. We are all capable of calm and rational behavior - I believe that because I have seen plenty of level-headed people around here! Insults directed at an individual are not necessary, so please consider not behaving in such a manner~ I know I must sound super preachy, but I guess that's just the kind of person I am, haha.

NOW! Getting back to the main point, I will ask: What don't you like about TS4 and/or the direction it is going?

Let me think. My main dislike would have to be building.

I love to build. I like to make houses with foundations and a shed, garage, etc. With the way that the new system is set up, when pools are added ( cause I believe that pools will be put in ), we will not be able to have a house with a foundation and a separate in-ground pool. ( I normally have the pool enclosed, with multiple glass windows, full glass door for entrance ).

I also like to have a center garage, ground level, with a house on a foundation. A glass sliding door off the master bedroom, with a balcony, a set of stairs leading down to a flat roof on top of the garage. Mom and dad could go out, sit on the bench, watch the stars ... a simple quiet place for the adults to go while the kids slept. Gone.

So for me, the biggest disappointment is the building.

Open world, open world, and open world.
I can forgive all the missing features as long as we got an open world, but dumping the one biggest change to The Sims series (IMO) is unforgivable, still looking forward to the game though.

That's very true... I never really built houses, so I never paid much attention! But you bring up really great points, especially about not being able to have foundation on one part of the house, and not on the other... For people who want to make more realistic (and from the house you described, beautiful) houses, the build tool in TS4 is severely lacking right now.

I do remember being really excited for the new open world aspect when they first started advertising in when the game was coming out. It was definitely a huge step up from TS2!

Glad to see you'll still be giving the game a chance, though. :D Hopefully the returning loading screens won't take toooooo long!~

The complete removal of story progression is my biggest disappointment. You'd think they'd pay attention to the fact that a mod to improve story progression was probably the most popular one with users and improve the built-in story progression in the game. Instead, all of the other households will be in stasis unless you switch to them and play them.

I'm also worried about the size of the neighborhoods. I usually have a few generations of sims that are alive and I like to let them move out from the family home and have a home of their own. If I did this in this game, the whole neighborhood would be my relatives.

I have to agree with you on this. No matter how much I am excited for this game the removal of story progression upsets me quite a bit. Hopefully someone is able to make a story progression mod that fixes it.

It is the one thing about Sims 2 that really annoyed me. Unless I went and played each lot individually the story wouldn't go anywhere. So I ended up trying to play each one in order for a few days. Otherwise if I wasn't careful I'd have grandchildren old before their grandparents.

It restricted my game no end. I couldn't do what I wanted because I had to keep things even.

I know this has been said before but I don't like that they removed the color wheel. I use that thing to death so I am going to miss that.

I am going to miss the open world to some extent. I am a bit worried about the loading screens when we get a few EP's in the game. I wonder how long they will be then? I have so much RAM but I don't like that the game is 32 bit and won't use it all. That sucks.

I will miss the toddlers even though I personally don't care for that life stage in Sims 3 due to it being SO time consuming but I do wish they would have improved the time it takes to teach them to walk, talk and be potty trained instead of taking them out. I did like the read to sleep thing as that was cute.

I don't care about pools as I hardly ever use them BUT it would have been nice if there were more interactions with pools. I would have used them more if there was more we could do in them like pool volleyball or something along those lines. So, I wish this was improved upon instead of taken out.

Story progression is something I will miss to some extent. I have a love/hate relationship with it. When I am playing ONE family, I like it as it keeps the town alive with Twallons mod but in my game without the mod, NORMAL story progression does not exist. It seemed like it worked fine the first year I had the game and it just stopped working. Basically, all my Sims ever did was age and die and then I couldn't play them rotationally unless I wanted to lose wish and such so that sucked.

I am going to miss the sliders. I kind of liked having them in CAS but to be fair I haven't had the chance to play with CAS so I don't know how big of a deal that is.

I will miss favorites as I always dressed my Sims and decorated their rooms based on favorite colors and was hoping they would have a bigger impact in the Sims 4 since we have more emotions.

I will miss being able to highlight all hair. I use that constantly. I hate that you can only do that with "certain" hairstyles.

I will miss doing laundry. I loved that feature in Sims 3 and hope it makes a return in 4 eventually.

Not sure if this is true but I hear there will be no random deaths? That sucks. Also I am not crazy about auto save either. What if a Sim I really like dies and then it auto saves...kind of sucks. I will have to save manually more often so I can go back to a previous save.

no storyprogresion... sims just die out unless you play them
    the closed world
    no toddlers
and no custumicing things (even just a color wheel would make me happy)

(don't really like the cupcake machine is so BIG... but thats a minor thing...)

    edit:
oh and I don't like the name of the bro trait... thats just... it have very bad vibes and asosiasations for me.

Dislike absence of toddlers and extremely stupid (in my opinion) "bro" characteristic (not bringing it here to debate, it's being debated plenty of other places already).

That said, I'm off the fence after seeing latest demo and will purchase.

Like everyone else my main disappointments lie with the lack of open world and Creat-A-Style which will never be added back in TS4's run. Though both had issues in TS3 which could be improved or simplified in some cases, they were both very handy features which I will miss.

Then of course everything else - toddlers, teens being the same height as adults and swimming pools to a lesser extent, lack of terrain sculpting.

My minor concerns from the gameplay video are, the graphics are a bit "off" I found. Especially outdoors, Sims were too bright, and it seemed a bit like a dream world than something relatable. I also don't like the graphic effects where you hover the cursor over a Sim or object and it outlines/highlights it.

Aside from that, I didn't like the look of Don Lothario and Dina Caliente. They seem far too different from their TS2 counterparts, which I don't like. I like a bit of continuity and when you give a different Sim the same name, and say it's supposed to be the same character, then I dunno. I like what they did with Mortimer and Bella. They're believable. I hope they have Cassandra and Alexander, but I'm not sure they will.

Also the lack of traits, and only being able to pick three. Where is the vegetarian trait?! They should at least have an extra slot or two for things like that which aren't so much "personality" aspects, but just extra things that define your Sim.

I think they were the things that stood out most to me.

One of the biggest things I'm going to miss is the ability to recolor/repattern the clothing, furnishings, building materials, etc. I'm one of those people who get lost for hours, just building homes and fine tuning every aspect of furnishing and decorating. I love being able to use a pattern I like on an accent wall, or putting my own color ideas on my Sims clothing.

I guess since EA eliminated open worlds, they saw no need for Story Progression. That's a shame, since I loved the open world. Felt more realistic. And although I don't use mods in my game, the very existence of the story progression mod, and its popularity, should have told EA what many of their customers wanted. I feel they really missed out on the opportunity to repair the broken Story Progression feature they attempted to make for Sims 3.

I'm going to miss Story Progression the most. I don't mind rotational gameplay. However, let's say you play one week at each household. With aging on, it means nothing happens at any other household and when you get back to them, all the sims are days and days older and you've lost playtime with them. So I'll HAVE to play with aging off if I want to play each family to it's fullest during rotational gameplay. Which bothers me as I won't play every household in the neighborhood. So I'll still have the whole grandkids die before their elders and my great-grandmother's highschool sweetheart is my best friend thing.

And if I want to play just one family, I hate that I'm going to be forced to pop in to other households just to keep the neighborhood alive and moving.

    From what I've seen.....
No mirror in CAS, that bugged me.... need some type of reflection to see more than one angle at once.

Some of the hair textures and hairlines looked pretty bad. Textures I can deal with... some of the hair lines were just Teresa Guidice bad. (Look her up!)

No re-coloring, no custom colors etc. That's unacceptable after TS3.
I create a lot of colors sims 3 doesn't. (Ok not a lot... but particular colors)

2 Afro hairs (I think) and they're not great. Please offer more afro and curly hair variety. Don't need another 4/5 years of begging for hair for people of Color.

    this

even if story progreasion was change to a scan of the game every midnight

that forced sims to (based on personality)
    - get small changes in relation ships
    - some times get big changes (start dateing, get married, get divorced)
    - if you got a pregnant force about 3 or more couple (depending on how populated the nabohood is) to get pregnant - same if population is low.
    - random sims gets a skill point (based on skill they already have, traits, Lifetime wish and job)
    - get all YA sims a job based on liftime wish, then trait... then skills
    - check sims for promotion (so they get it if they have what is required)

    no need to animat this

I honestly don't think I get the game unless EA ad this in a patch or a mod is made

that and then the need for toddlers....

Storyprogression. On the one hand, they make the sims more emotional(!) and likeable, so you can "bond" with them. And then you have to leave the household, to play another one. Or 2-3...4-5. In Sims 2 I had a recidence for old people, but they never wanted to die, almost kill me . The wheel of life didn't turn.

As I preorderd I didn't know that they cut that out. Why should they? It makes no sense :?
Maybe Maxis isn't able to program storyprogression without an open world. What I really don't understand. Hundreds of programs can calculate in the background, without jumping in the face of the user. Sims not, eheh.

Edit: Typo - and I would pay money for a mod :D. Paypal, Creditcard...

    This...

Especially the part about hair variety for people of color. One of my few pet peeves about Sims 3. I cannot understand why in 2014, a large segment of the world's population continues to not be realistically represented in the series. BTW, did anyone else find the "braids" style for males horrid, as I did?

I dunno, but the Sims 4 has the overall look and feel of a more complex mobile game. Unacceptable on a PC.

    I wonder about this constantly..

I can live without an open world IF the lots are really interactive.

However no SP is a hard one to get passed. Of course yes EA SP never worked but Twallans did a wonderful job. There are some houses I don't want to play but I like the randomness of their kids etc and maybe at some point they become interesting. I hated when ( without nraas SP) there were no friends for my sims to met at school.

When playing in CAS, I will miss create a style. Interestingly I disliked sims 3 CAS, as I found it hard to get right, and I do prefer the new one - but not being able to change colour/ pattern is pretty disappointing.

Closed worlds was the biggest blow for me, along with no story progression. Ouch.
Also a thousand more things I won't even list because I've realized: why even voice my opinion? Who cares, EA is releasing Sims 4 on September 2nd. Less than 2 months away.

The biggest thing for me would have to be story progression. Pools and toddlers bothered me but I know they can be added later. Story Progression.... Ehh... Just why? A lot of people downloaded the mod from twallan and he isn't making it anymore. Couldn't ea build on it and make it better than ts3? Maybe it is possible for it to be added later but I doubt it.
