    That looks Awesome, Aaron.

I'll get back into it tonight for a few hours. I did mess with a lots of those erosion and stuff... never did notice much or then it was too much but then again, I've got a lot to learn still. :D

When I get my mouse working again I'll do a quick explanation of Distant terrains. For some reason it dies every 5 mins.

Nice! Thanks, Aaron. I linked to your post with those files on the first page and I'll add it the tutorial as well so people can compare the files. Exellent.

(the worst thing, and really the only bad thing, about my Alienware, new this fall is the mouse/trackpad. I just got an updated driver for it and it helps, but it still is awful. Mouse issues! It drives me nuts!)

Edit to add: I'll be back this evening (hopefully!) with a painting run-through.

OMG I am so far behind! Work has gotten crazy so had little time to get started as a student here. I promise to catch up as soon as I can. This is an awesome thread so far I hope it continues!

No such thing as behind! (says me, scrambling) :)
Plenty of time for all this, right?

I am sorry, I am sick as a dog here! I shouldn't keep promising to get things up, it is just so exciting that there is interest :) I did get quite a bit of play time with WM. Aaron's TMD files are great! If anyone is feeling stuck also don't forget the example files.

I may not be online tomorrow, but I intend to be get some WM play time on Friday and over the weekend and maybe will get some stuff about paint files up. It will be my intention, in any case. Be well, folks!

    Oh My!

It is really exciting, I´ve been working around with this technic on a map of mine and I had a great time, not saying that the finished product is something to show  (I got a real mesh of it actually) but it is much fun and I think with work and patience I will be able to learn something!
I will give this a little time this weekend.

    Thank you very much again!

Aminovas - I hope you be feeling better soon. No rush - :D I don't think we have a deadline  I think you're doing a fantastic job - and I like to say "Hello neighbor to my north. I so badly want to move to the Burlington area - all my doctor/specialist are there, and I hate driving 80 plus miles each month to see them.

Here's a quick explanation of shaping a map with world machine. I suck at explaining things but here goes!

Before starting your map make sure you set the world size to 2048x2048.

Hey Aaron, I just found that I can't go further than 513x513 if you down load the "free" Basic version of World Machine 2.2. The message tells me that if I need to go 2048x2048 than you'll have to purchase the next level up. But at this point - I guess I'll stick with the 513x513 until I feel comfortable with this software to purchase.

Great tutorial by the way :) (sorry for double posting)

Hi! Junceda, this great you are excited for this.

Azul, you and I are all topsy-turvy. This is really kind of funny: I just had to drive 8-hours round trip to Albany today to go see my Doctor for my monthly visit/treatment, because I can't get the care I need here in Burlington. I'd be much better off in Rutland! I can well relate to not making the trek to Burlington. I would hope you get all the care you need wherever you are. (edit to add: don't worry about double posts, especially when they are a few hours apart, imho :) No one here would fault you for that)

Guys, I apparently have full-blown pneumonia at the moment, so, I might be really laying low over the weekend. :) I'll be checking in when I can and glad to be entertained by anyone's WM adventures

Regarding the difference between the free version and the full version, I actually use only 512x512 most of the time as I work through the terrain, and I don't take it up to the full size until I want to output it. I would go ahead and output at 512x512 and use Gimp or whatever program to resize it to 2048x2048. I would, after resizing it, maybe run a very small radius gaussian blur on it (less than 1 pixel radius) or maybe do a smart sharpen filter on it. I think that would be enough to get the idea of the terrain in CAW. I think you could get your terrain basically to where you want it, and here is a possible solution if the low-resolution export isn't satisfactory: I wouldn't assume anyone else would volunteer this, but I would be more than happy, if any of you have a terrain you feel is pretty much near-finalized, I would be happy to render it in the full-version using your TMD file. It is too bad that higher resolution is available, but I am happy to help anyone in this thread out with that.

And, yes, Aaron's tutorial has been helpful to me, too. Also, I need to go into my pictures and highlight the buttons like that. It is super helpful :)

Aminovas - pneumonia - that sucks ... and then driving all the way to Albany from Burlington - luckily it was a very nice day out - I couldn't imagine you driving in winter weather like snow and all. We at one time drove up on 22A (I live right on the NY border, I can walk a block down my street and I'm in NY) and we saw 2 cars that went off the road - talk about a frightful ride to Burlington. We moved up here 10 yrs ago from Virginia Beach - so I had to get use to snowy weather really fast. I love my docs at Fletcher ... they're so awesome.

I worked on World Machine for 5 hours today, mainly working with one device, the Layout Generator and Advancedd Perlin and working with height, learning how to make vallies, rivers, mountains (I guess it's called working with the extends?) - it was fun.

Yeah, I have Paint Shop Pro, so I think I can import what I create and resize and save as a 2048x2048 file.

I hope you get a lot of rest, and get feelin' better. :)

Christine, :D That is great! Feel free to share any pics of terrains in here, in WM or in CAW or in game :)

Azul, I am so happy to hear you have good doctors. Mine is great, too (finally). What a difference that makes!

That is so great you were having fun in WM today. Sounds awesome! I can't wait to see, if you feel like sharing, or if you want to link to anywhere else you have pics up.

And, please, don't hesitate to take me up on that offer to do the larger render (I just can't promise fast turn around).

Thanks for the well-wishes. I am home in bed with two hot water bottles and a heat pad, and feel much less ragged :)

I was gonna post what I did today, with notations but I didn't get around to it, but I will next time, more than likely tomorrow (or so).

Good, get some rest and get well

Edit update: Okay here's what I've done doesn't seem alot but what I did was playing around of devices, watching 3 or 4 tutorial videos on different aspects of World Machine, like trying to create a river, and using circles to try to create cliffs, plateaus etc. and then going into Advanced Perlin - double clicking and adjusting the sliders.

And watching a few videos that really helped me alot, so I'm posting the links if anyone else would like to take a look

Here I'm trying to work in Advancd Perlin
    Step1.jpg

To get into Advanced Fractal Perlin Generator, and here is where I spent most of my time, playing with Style, Octaves, Presistence - playing with the Presets on the upper right - and then going back and forth from 2D to 3D view,

The first upper 2 videos, especially the 2nd one was really good.
The one below what you are reading - no sound, and he's kinda quick (I don't like it when they go CLICK CLICK CLICK really fast through their tutorial I guess I getting old.) but it was good one.

    http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/223046-world-machine-2-basic-tutorial

So I'm planning to spend more time tomorrow and over the weekend. I really want to get a hang of this.

Hi! Sorry I've been away. I've been totally out of commission so far as being on the forums, but I'm doing a lot better the last day or so. I'm hoping to get back at this again :)

Aaron, do you mind if I link to your distant terrain thread on the OP? I think that is super cool :)

Also, I just dug up this link for the Real World Height Data thread, but it is pertinent here, to:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_wCiWztNmo
This is a video on using real-world height data and MicroDEM with World Machine :)
