Fairytale Mafia: Book One - “Once Upon a Time”Once upon a time there was a story. This story took place in a strange and magical land inhabited by ordinary people as well as by all manner of extraordinary creatures--giants and dwarves, witches and beasts. In the midst of everyday affairs wonderful things would happen. Animals, and even trees, could talk. Humans were transformed into birds and fish, into objects, and then back again. In this world, Good was always rewarded and Evil was always punished. But then… the story began to change…
On the edges of The Great Beyond, a tremendous power was discovered. A power that, in the hands of Good, could rid this Fairytale Land of Evil forever. But in the hands of Evil, this great power could be used for more nefarious purposes--it could devour this once prosperous and merry land and its citizens in its dark, foreboding maw… leaving only a desolate landscape behind.
Would you fight for the forces of Good and prevent this dire fate? Or would you take this great power for your own and curse all that would seek to defy your malevolent bidding? Only time will tell. And so… another story begins.

- Players may not individually perform more than one action per Night (not counting passive abilities).
- All Players will receive fun, Fairytale-themed Flavor Roles (if not modified into Power Roles).
The game is partitioned into two segments: Day and Night. Each Night, Evil will bring death upon a player. Each Day, all living players, as members of the Fairytale Council, will work together to try and determine who among them is truly Evil. Once a player has majority vote, this player will be banished from Fairytale Land.
How to join the game:
To sign up, simply post in the thread and send me an email saying you want to play (and who you are)! You can find my email in my About Me.
Once sign-ups are closed, I will be using a randomizer to assign everyone a Starting Role (see Starting Role PMs for an idea of the emails sent to players). Then the following occurs:
Night 0, Phase One
- 3 Evil Starting Role Emails, 1 Un-Recruited Trickster Starting Role Email, 12 Good Starting Role Emails are sent (See Starting Role PMs).
- 2 starting Good Role Modifications are randomized from the list of all possible Good Role Mods and are set aside.
Night 0, Phase Two
- Evil chooses any of three Special Abilities, including Evil Role Modifiers.
- Any additional Good Role Modifications (up to three additional roles, depending on the number of abilities--if any--chosen by Evil) are randomized.
- All Good Roles are randomly re-assigned, including Power Roles and Vanilla Townie “Flavor” Roles.
- Good players are emailed and informed of final role assignments.
- Once all players have confirmed their final role assignment to me via email, the game starts with Day 1.
NOTE: Please do not mention whether or not you have received your email yet, as this could reveal who you are. Also, please ask me questions if you’re uncertain about anything regarding your role via email, not the thread! I will make a post saying when all Starting Role emails have been sent and a following post when all Roles have been finalized.
PRIZES:
All members of the winning team will receive a custom Sim (CC-Free)--should you want it--reflecting the Fairytale character you saw to victory!
1. If you have been killed by the Evil during the Night or banished by majority vote during the Day, you MAY NOT state on the thread what role you played, whether you were Good, Evil, or had a special role. You CANNOT try to tell people who you think Evil are. You may still chat on the thread, but you can't affect discussions and votes.
2. Lurkers are welcome to chat on the thread, just don't tell the players anything that might influence their discussions.
3. To ensure that no ghost or lurker is trying to influence the players, these people may only post chatter during "Night" time. "Day" time is for active players to be discussing their suspicions and deciding on a vote.
4. Anyone is allowed to claim that they are any role. No one is allowed to post "proof" of their role, such as the email you received with explanation of your role.
5. Any eliminated players or lurkers may email me at any point to ask what role everyone was assigned. I will tell you. Please refrain from sharing this information with players who are still in the game, thanks!
BUT... if banished players want a chance at coming back via Tinkerbell’s fairy dust, you're not allowed to ask me for any information. You're also not allowed to campaign to be brought back on this thread.
6. Emailing outside of the game is highly discouraged! No one should be getting outside help or information.
7. Please do not talk in "code" or hide secret messages in your posts, including posting in white "invisible" font. Anything you want to say should be able to be read by everyone.
8. Please post any votes for banishment in bold type with the following format: Vote: [Player Name]. Once a player receives majority, I will allow a brief period for them to state a defense before banishing them from Fairytale Land (and the game).
9. Besides that, open season. Lying about your role, accusing other people of being Evil, defending yourself against accusations, it's all open and fair. You may accuse people for any reason you want, including (but not limited to) their posts are suspicious, they don't sound like they usually do, they always had it out for Simmer A and that person was killed overnight, they have a suspicious looking avatar... you can say anything you want.
10. Anyone caught breaking these rules may be subject to elimination from the game.
11. Please keep it fun, and not personal! This is a game, and should be treated as such.
12. As host, I reserve the right to eliminate or replace players based on anti-fun behaviour or absence from the game as I see fit.

Evil
Welcome, [Player Name]. You are an Evil Goon, along with your partner [Player Name]. Additionally you know a Trickster exists, but you do not know who they are unless recruited.
Abilities:
- Factional communication: During night phase (and day phase, if chosen) you may communicate with your partner(s) in a special email. The Narrator (moderator) must be included in this email.
- Factional kill: Each night phase, you must determine which one of you or your partners will perform the factional kill.
- Evil Role Modifications:
Before the game begins, you may choose up to three of the following abilities to add to your faction, but for each ability you add Good will get an additional ability:
- Change one Evil Player to Ursula the Sea Witch (Bulletproof)
- Change one Evil Player to The Evil Queen (Role Cop)
- Change one Evil Player to The Big Bad Wolf (Jack Of All Trades)
- Recruit the Trickster
- Daytalk ability plus all Evil players can continue to participate in Email Chat (even if eliminated or banished).
Win condition:
You win when all Good Fairytale Characters of Fairytale Land have been eliminated or nothing can prevent this from occurring.

Un-Recruited Trickster
Welcome, [Player Name]. You are the Trickster (Evil Traitor). Deceptive and clever, it is sometimes unclear which side you are on. You know Evil exists and you know who they are.
Abilities:
- As an Un-Recruited Trickster (Evil Traitor), you have a one shot bulletproof passive ability that is automatically activated the first Night you are targeted by Evil or Robin Hood. If however you are recruited on Night 0, you lose this ability.
- If you are not recruited and are the last surviving member of Evil, you will take over the factional kill.
- If you are recruited by Evil during Night 0, you will become an Evil Goon and gain all factional abilities (you may also receive a Role Mod Night 0 if your partners decide it).
- Otherwise, during the Day, you are allowed one vote for banishment as any other player.
Win condition:
You win when all Good Fairytale Characters of Fairytale Land have been eliminated or nothing can prevent this from occurring.

Good
Welcome, [Player Name]. You are Good. Additionally you know a Trickster exists, but you do not know who they are or if they have been turned Evil.
Abilities:
- Your power is your vote for banishment. You have no night actions (unless otherwise determined by Role modifications below).
- Good Role Modifications:
For each modification that is selected by Evil, Good gains an additional role modification as well. Good has two role modifications to start, resulting in a maximum of five Good role modifications (depending on choices made by Evil) randomly selected by the Narrator from the following:
- Belle (Goon Cop)
- Fairy Godmother (Roleblocker)
- Tinkerbell (Angel)
- The Huntsman (Tracker)
- Mulan (Bodyguard)
- Robin Hood (Vigilante)
- Hansel & Gretel (Masons)
Please be aware that not all of these roles will be present in the game.
Win condition:
You win when all threats to Fairytale Land are banished or eliminated.
EVIL:
Evil may select up to three of the following modifications. Multiple role modifiers may not go to the same player. A recruited Trickster may receive a role during Night 0.

- Once during any night you may use a Stealth kill. This kill is unable to be tracked by The Huntsman.
- Once during any night you may use a Go For The Throat kill. This kill is unable to be prevented by any means (The Fairy Godmother or Mulan, for example).

No player may receive more than one of any of the roles and no more than one of any role may be present (except in the case of Hansel & Gretel who between them, as Masons, count as only 1 role modification).

- Each night you may target a player. Consulting your many books and utilizing your innate ability to “see” the true nature of those you target behind the facade, you will receive a result of "Evil Goon," "Not Evil Goon," or "No Result.”
NOTE, you are a Goon Cop, meaning you will only get an “Evil” result on unmodified Evil Goon players. If any Evil Goons have chosen a special ability that transforms their role into that of a Power Role, you will get a “Not Evil Goon” result, even though they are Not Good.

Yes, if all the baddies die, the Un-Recruited Trickster becomes an Evil Goon. They do not have to have been recruited by Evil for this to happen.

Will we know how many Role Mods Evil chooses and how many subsequent total Role Mods Good is given?
No, You will not be told either of these things. You only know that Good begins the game with at least 2 Role Mods (which are chosen by random generator and then assigned to Good players by random generator as well).

Big Bad Wolf if he exists has a one-shot Go For the Throat (Strongman) ability. This kill MUST be actively chosen on any given Night and the kill WILL go through no matter what. He will rip his target's throat out and eat him/her for dinner. Yum!
Big Bad Wolf only gets to use any of his special abilities IF he is the one making the Night Kill. Then he must signify to the Narrator (that's me!) that he would like to use it. The kill would be Evil's ONE Night kill, meaning, they do not get an extra kill on any Night this ability is used.
Obviously, Big Bad also has another one-shot ability--Stealth (Ninja) but you're not asking about that. Just something to remember. Again, he would have to be the one doing the killing and needs to let me know he is using it for it to be activated.

Mulan if she exists would stay alive in this case, yes. In some games there is a chance for Mulan to die as well, but this is not the way I have decided to go for this game at least.
Of course I am open to suggestions for ways to improve the game once it is over and this is one of the things that could change for future games.

The content of death scenes will not contain any hint as to whom is doing the killing, if a target was actually chosen, whether or not a killing action was blocked or the character was immune, etc. At least that is what I have planned.
So you should not analyze death scenes too much for that reason. Same with banishment. If a player *seems* from a banishment story to be actually guilty/innocent, it is *not* intended.
If, after I have posted a banishment/death scene, you have questions about its content, please ask.
I will try to make everything as clear as possible. If there is information I feel you should know, I will expressly state it as something I am making clear.
