So I don't know what I'm doing in terms of posting pictures obviously. If it doesn't show up, just look at the link. :P

Obviously a huge deal with people is the art style. I personally love the look of it. It perfectly suits the sims franchise with its quirks, goofiness, and charm. I've seen many people complain about how the clothing textures are a huge step back. I made a sim in the sims 3 and dressed her closely to the pretty brunette from 4.
Look especially at the jacket. In 3, it's shiney and the buttons are low res. In 4, it looks like what a jacket would IRL. The pocket flaps are stuck out a little, there seems to be a lot of care put into the clothing this generation.
I made this mostly to compare the clothing textures of 3 and 4. I tried for the face, but I was unable to make the sim look decent and less pudgy. Is that even possible? To make a non-potato-face sim? lol.
One other thing. I love the shadowing on the face. Especially how hair actually casts a shadow now.

Simmin' since 2000
No really, The Sims 4 looks better by a mile. People will get over that fact in a few years. Remember when people whined about The Sims 3 when it came out? Same story, same thing all over again.

No photoshop was used. Just took screenshot from CAS
the eyebrows look like they were done with a sharpie pen
the hair looks plastic
the collarbone and neck lost shadows, definition, looks more clay-like
Nah, it depends on which art style you prefer. I personally think TS3 looks better, I'm just not a big fan of the "painted" look of TS4, and the hair has no strands like TS3 does. Yes, there's a nice glow on them, but you can get that too with TS3 in gameplay mode.
Yes, that sim looks good, but look at the rest of the sims! They are no where near as good looking or realistic!
In which game? 'Cause that's true of every game in the series.
It's not photoshopped, but its obviously a very low res texture screenshot. This was obviously either taken from a aging laptop or a regular computer that just has textures and detail set to low.
of course, any computer that can't handle sims 3 graphics on medium or high, is going to have more of a problems handing sims 4 graphics. even if the video card requirements are the same, the coding is going to eat more of the cpu's attention, and less will be devoted to shaders and rendering.
lets compare this to a sims 3 promotional shot released by EA at the cusp of release, when everything is set to high on a state fo the art machine, so we know its been made to look pretty for potential buyers.
Actually I had all my settings on high when I made this sim, and my computer is a pretty good gaming one. Not laptop.
As someone else brought up, I'm happy they got rid of the "shiny" clothing. In TS3, I'm not able to make a black shirt without it looking really shiny. Also on the subject of clothing, I just think they look better on TS4. They have a ton more meshes than the TS3 Sims did.
On the hair, it's really preference. I think the new hair suits the Sims much better - it looks more natural for them and doesn't seem to awkwardly stand up in weird positions that wouldn't be possible unless you took a glob of gel or something.
If you're able to look past the art style change, it is really a great improvement. I feel the reason why people are so against this art style is because TS3's was so radically redesigned and different from what TS2 aimed for. This is really taking certain elements of TS3, but improving upon TS2 which I feel is the best idea they've came up with.
I love what she looks like where you are showing her, but from what we've seen in the trailer, the sims seem to loose that beautiful look they have in CAS.
Maybe what you are showing us is not an actual Sim, but a render. In which case, it's like looking at air, b/c they won't look the same when we get the game.
Some of the people that were in sims camp said that sims in cas look the same when they're in game. And this isn't a render. You can see in the gameplay trailer
It's like comparing apples and oranges. I like to eat both kinds of fruit--both are good, just different. At times I may be in the mood for one over the other, but both have their own merits in different ways.
1. Less buggy/slowdown
2. Improved NPC AI
3. Better CAS and clothing
4. NO rabbit hole business (careers are ok)
You've got a good point there. They are both different styles that look good on their own. Just lots of people say the graphics are "poor quality" and "major stepback." I just wanted to show they aren't.
Hi
No one at Simscamp got to play TS4. They saw the same video the rest of the world saw... they got to use CAS that was on the gamescom floor for everyone there to use.
So, in game, we don't know. That trailer was premade before Gamescom.
... I like the way TS4 move and look.
What I was really hoping for in CAS though was that we could choose the layers of clothing; if its possible to choose hair and hats separately, why not choose clothing separately? I'm tired of the cheap "plastereverythingtogetherandhopethegamedoesntnotice" thing.
Also; If they can't add the whole Cast into the game, why can't they just add the color wheel individually? The patterns were always a pain anyway...
Umm
You are so wrong here. They saw actual gameplay of the sims and their improvements on routing the sims and build mode. Then were given access to exclusive videos that they weren't even allowed a cell phone inside. Then were most definitely weren't watching the Same thing at simscamp. Go watch the so supply's videos on YouTube over the sims 4. I personally like the look of the new sims and pray they don't disappoint
How could she have been wrong when she went there herself?
She said nobody played the actual game, she said nothing about the masterclasses (which they were invited to).
Actually the difference is visible already. You just need to know where to look for it.
Look at the shirt neckline on both of them. Notice the TS4 version is cleaner and less smudgy? Notice how the lips don't pinch so awkwardly anymore? That's a sign of higher texture resolution, and better use of facial topology on the model itself.
How's that a problem?
I'd prefer if the game had less of a focus on anatomical detail myself. Just because we're looking at higher resolutions and more graphical detail overall doesn't mean the characters only look better if they're more lifelike. As long as they appear crisper and cleaner around the edges, it's already a graphical improvement!
I'd actually prefer if they looked even more cartoony (and therefore more expressive and emotional) than they are, it'd be a HUGE improvement! I'd be thrilled if I never saw a tear duct again!
She was there . . .

My forum builds thread
I just spent the last freaking WEEK fighting hidden CC files and trying to find one effin pair of bugged gamebreaking boots and am not done yet. In 2 you upzip the suckers, dump them in a folder and it's done. Don't like something? Drag it back out. And as for setting up an entire hood, just to watch them age without ever getting to play them, well EA, let's not go there. I really don't want to be banned.
I actually prefer the shading of TS4, but I cannot stand that weird, block hair. I think the art style is a good improvement for this game, but at the same time, I feel like these renders are not accurate.

All the art styles of the promotional images are the same. This is just how they make the sims look as they promote them. We all know that this is not exactly what we get in game. It is especially apparent on those kids. The shadows and shading are not even close to how it looks in game and they don't even have those weird pudding faces. They actually look like they have depth and character...which we all know is not even close to what we get.
