... there are five fingers... and screenshots like this:

And I have to say that is pretty awesome looking. OK, EA... the streetcar is a pretty low-down dirty trick, but ok.

 Oh my goodness. I thought the streetcar was like the diner we have in 3, but it's not! Look you can see the tracks it's running on!!! Squeee!

It's pretty, and the raised curbs contribute to detail level.
If only they replaced those trees with some that were more TS2-ish. The bark doesn't even look like bark. It's just a blurry smear.

That streetcar looks familiar. If I had created the diner in TS3, I would be delighted at seeing it as a working object in TS4. :D

I have to admit, this image from Sims 4 is extremely enchanting. I think I could lose myself in a world that looks like that very easily. It intrigues me greatly.

But I'm left wondering if it will be enough because I'm still struggling greatly over lack of interior object detail and the gaping hole left by no CASt :(

    @RosettasStoned - I know, right? Tres cool.

@CK213 - I know exactly what you mean. When you look at the two pictures you have there, the lack of crispness and detail in the TS4 pic is glaring. It's like comparing a watercolor to an oil portrait. I get that some like it and/or prefer it - I just don't happen to be one of them.

@Pamhamlet - that streetcar *is* charming, isn't it?

Edit: @Sucom - I'm right there with you.

This picture looks enchanting, although I can't help feeling bothered by the lack of structure in the trees.
When I compare it to CK213's picture you can't miss the beautiful light in the s4 pic. It is however a Disney kind of beautiful, sweet fairytale like. What you see in de S3 picture looks more like reality. The kind of reality I happen to care about.

The whole Sims franchise is a fairy-tale based on reality. Look at GTA 5 which was just released last Tuesday. It's based on the same concept as The Sims, except that it's more violent. But you don't hear people complaining that it's not real enough either. So why does The Sims have to be life like, and GTA doesn't? :D

I was talking about the light  I don't find Sims 3 fairytale like by the way. Even Moonlight Falls, which is supposed to be fairytale, isn't.
Besides, I said 'the kind of reality I happen to like' and I find it in the game I'm playing right now. I don't feel responsible for decisions made for a game called GTA, a game I don't know

Comparing the two pictured CK213 posted, here is what I see. In the TS4 pictured I always want to pull off the clear tape across my new gadget.

Does anyone know what I mean? It's like when you get a cell phone and there is that clear piece of film over it..or any other gadget these days..you can't see the 'screen' 'clearly' until you remove that clear sticker..that is something I will not like about TS4. I will always be rubbing my eyes hoping something 'removes' the film over the scene.

If I were to buy this game, I think I would find myself changing my graphic card settings to desaturate the color level in TS4 to reduce the cartoon look.

Which is ironic since I tend to nudge the saturation levels in TS3 to make it a little more cartoonish.

I like the desaturated one. I don't know, though it feels "dead", it looks more real.
And, yeah, I agree with astridentanja, it has this disney feel, the original, i mean. And I like it.

My nephew got GTA 5 at the midnight release at gamestop and I can tell you when I saw him playing it I was blown away by how lifelike the game looked. I asked my nephew are those animations or real actors. So yea I can see people not saying that GTA 5 is not realistic enough. The graphics of GTA 5 make TS1, TS2, TS3 and TS4 look like little kids games. The sims have a long way to go to match GTA 5 graphics

Well, i do actually understand why The Sims still has a long way to go. Because GTA doesn't really have to bother about having children, growing up, different personalties, creating houses, mutiple interactions with multiple objects, and there are more.

That was not my point. My point was that people would be less likely to complain about GTA 5 not being life like enough because it already looks very life like. So sunman502 using GTA 5 as an example really was not a fair example

Well in actuality, we do share the same point. Comparing GTA V to Sims 4 is not a fair example. :)

GTA5 was also probably the most expensive game ever made. The production costs were 266,000,000. It made a billion dollars within the 1st 3 days. I doubt Sims 4 comes anywhere near that in production costs.

The sims 4 graphics really suck in comparison, unfortunately :(

Tsk, you all make me want to get my hand on GTA V. :P

Actually I am not that fond of console games. I bought PS3 before and tried few games but I am not accustomed to the controller thingy.

But you did pique my curiosity  .

I'll better make my PS3 come in handy. After all, I need to get another game to replace TS4, so GTA V here I comes. :-)

It is possible by the way only this world will have this Disneylook. If there's something I admire the developers for it's the way they create totally different atmospheres in the different worlds (and thay has a lot to do with the light).

GTA doesn't have to be phone compatible. THAT's why the graphics are so much more realistic looking.

166 million of the 266 million is in advertising. Can't remember the exact breakdown.

I'll bet Sims 4 won't be far behind, at least production cost wise. Don't know if EA will dump $150+ million to advertise.

I like the desaturated look sooooooo much more than the original! It looks 100% better and doesn't hurt my eyes when I'm looking at it. Although it looks kind of "dead" everything in general seems to look a lot better and sharper. And it looks less fake than the original does.

Same here. I bought PS3 some months ago, but I just can't get used to it.
I'm much better at computer, so I'll probably just wait another year or so, when the game (GTA V) will be released for PC's aswell (draw distance, textures and visual effects will also be better on PC).

@Cinebar -- I know what you mean. I just posted in another thread that the TS4 pics remind me of a Claratin commercial. I'm just waiting for someone to reach into the corner and pull the film out of the way so I can see it clearly :) .
