I'm always surprised the people that want to compare the Sims two with custom content or the Sims three with custom content to the new Sims 4 coming out next year.
I think that history has shown us that custom content is always going to be better looking than what Maxis can produce themselves.

Most CC I come across on forums looks doll-like, model-like, hair looks like the Sims are wearing wigs or it's creepy realistic. I love what's in the game itself. this! and in the sims 3 with my simself custom hair color to match mine. any CC hair that i install i end up uninstalling because it always looks like the hair is greasy it's waaaay too shiny, and the CC skintones while i like that they added shadowing round the breast area for woman to look more real. why is the skin so shiny?? like their covered in baby oil?? same thing happend in the sims 2. i dont leave my house looking like i just wrestled in Vaseline...

Personally I like the look of the new Sims. I feel like we will all be able to create a much better variety of Sims, with the new CAS.
I think the thing making everyone rave over the look of them, is because lets face it, they look a lot different to what we are used to in the Sims. It will take a while to get used to, but I personally like it.

I don't like cartoony faces, I just don't. Never have, never will. It's not obstinacy or something, I WANT to like this new game. But everytime I see those pictures I go *ugh*.
With CC yours sims will looks always most better. The sims in "The Sims 2" were to me like a cartnoon... They didn't look good without cc. In the sims 3 you can make pretty sims without the use of cc (my opinion). My sims always have a little of cc. I don't use a lot, but I like to use cc skins, because they look so most better with it. I know some people who play the game without any and they sims are gorgeous, others like to use a lot of cc and of course, they sims will look a lot more realists.
For the sims 4 there will be cc that will help you to create the sim you want to play.

But If you play with the sliders you can make pretty unique sims.
And all of them have cc skin, most of the make-up are from the game and some cc hair.
As you can see, I don't like to use a lot of cc in they faces, because the skins can make a lot of them. But you know are always some people who like to use a lot of it. And everyone have they one style. You can be suprised by some of the sims some people can make. I want the sims 4 to be a evolution from sims 3. For us players, to be able to make uniques sims and with the help of some amazing creatiors who will available cc... For everyone to make what they like to do.

It just shows you what can be done with these sims. You're right that these new ones will be moddable as well. In fact, it looks like it might be even easier to do so if they're doing it for that purpose.
My only concern there is, that Sims 4 hair looks so immobile, that I'm not sure how mods will be able to fix that...
I've come across a lot of CC in story's that I followed from other Simmers and in those story's it only results in Sims having the same kind of faces and stupid hair. I regret it so many people state that Sims 3 needs CC to look better, because it doesn't and it weakens the objections one could have against the Sims 4 look. In the examples of Jonas it's actually the CC I don't like. Those eyes.... :?
Sims 3 sims look perfectly fine without CC. There are some limitations, you can't make everyone you like (never succeeded in making a resembling Audrey Hepburn like in the example above). I love the new possibilities in CAS. I regret though that the faces, despite that new kind of creating, don't look natural. And isn't that the whole point here?

Like it that they are born ingame. I really hope they'll maintain or even improve the genetics. That's a real important ingredient for me too.
But I chose them for their very subtle difference.
Genetics are extremely important to me as well. I already dislike how much Sims 3 got away from the genetics more than 2 had. Losing genetics is a game killer for me.
I don't mind it, base game TS2 and TS3 sims are not my cup of tea either but with CC it definitely makes a big difference. I probably would use CC in TS4 too.

I never played 2, I had no idea genetics played a part in it. Always thought that was a Sims 3 thing. It has become a challenge to create new partners that will add something to the Sims in my family and I'm so happy when I succeed and get a perfect combination of the parents I hate the 'copycat children'.
It's the details that disappoint me a bit: things like knees or toes just look 'painted' rather than properly modeled. I hope it's just this screenshot though. :?
To each his/her own. From what I've read, I think that when some people say "too cartoony" they don't necessarily mean that there aren't some aspects of TS4 that appear more realistic than TS3. I think that they are talking about the artistic style in general. Which, to be honest, is a little more cartoony. Especially when you look at how bright the colors are or how the hair looks in comparison.
I don't mind it. It's growing on me. And the sims themselves look very cute and expressive and I love the eyes and the face shapes. That goes a long way with me. But, I do understand what people are saying when they mention that it has a cartoonish appearance. That's just not going to resonate with everyone.
I like them both, but I do think that TS4 has more of a "hand drawn" look to it. If that makes sense.
Exactly! that's how I feel too and I couldn't figure out what made it more cartoony I just thought it was. I definetly don't hate the new sims but I really want the hair to be improved because it loks like plastic
Yes, this does look cartoony and to me they look like the Sims Social 3D. This hair even looks more textured and yet it still looks pretty horrible to me.

Never really was that into CC. If the community can do that... why not the devs?
Those Sims look great by the way. Even better than TS3.
All made on Sims 3 and clearly not dead-eyed pudding crap like the example from above. Yes, some CC used, but who doesn't use CC?
Oh and actually, every one of these sims were born in-game! No facial edits or anything. Just makeup and clothes.
