Hi everyone,
Base game update version 1.55.4 for PC and Mac is now live and can be downloaded from the game launcher. For those having issues with updating the game via the launcher and wish to manually update to the latest version, you can check out the following sticky thread for more details:
I have installed the patch now I can't play the game. Everytime it starts loading it says sims 3 has stopped working and now windows cannot play the game. I didn't mean to click yes to install the update so didn't get chance to move my mods and make a backup. Now I can't play at all please help
dawn is correct we dont have one yet but another mac user said they kept refreshing launcher and that finally worked. also make sure origin is up to date and try cleaning out IE cookies/history
good luck!
Thanks, Dawn and ceejay! I'm going to give it a go. But first, off to back up my folder.

I just wanted to ask a quick question. I had messed with the GraphicsRules.sgr and GraphicsCards.sgr to add my graphics cards. I don't see anything about having to replace the edited files with the original before patching which is what I was told needed to be done in order to prevent an invalid file error.

Good point, Roses. You do have to replace the edited files with the originals while patching and then after you are done patching you can put the edited ones back. Perhaps I should add that to my section...

Ok. Cool. Which that was actually something I forgot to do. Bad purple, bad. I didn't get any error luckily. Lol. The files were updated just fine. Although now I'll have to go in and check to see if my card is still in there.

I thought this was a DEP crash so I redid my DEP settings by adding all the Sims 3 executables. I removed the cache files also. I am still getting random crashes. I have now moved the entire Sims 3 folder as ceejay402 suggested. If it no longer crashes, what should I do next? If I add the Sims 3 folder back, won't that just recreate the crashes?
I may just try reinstalling everything too. If I do that is it best to install The Sims 3 and all the expansions then patch, or should I patch after each one?

hi Simlarr, if moving the sims 3 doc folder works. just move the saved material back to the new files.
Hello My favorite Techies ^.^ I don't know if you want me to post this here, or if there is another thread going, but I figured I would stop here and post this:
Someone on my mypage posted that "Late Night Bars weren't working" I decided to do some of my own investigating (as i was curious if he meant the mixology tables or the dance bars.) and there is actually a quick little bug:
In the Dance Clubs from Late Night, the Wall speakers are -not- playing music. If you manually click them, you will not get the ability to turn them on, as they are technically already 'on'. You will also not be able to dance on the dance floor since they are not playing music:
FIX
Click the wall speaker. Disable --> Entire Lot Click it Again --> Enable --> Entire lot. This will make them work once more
Wasn't sure if you had a 'known issues for game play' thread going yet or not, so yea, I'mma just leave this here ^.^
You guys are doing a fantastic job managing this by the way ^.^b

Jenngnome!! you are the best thanks!! ill pass this on to crinrict for her IP bug thread. so cool u figured out a fix!
if it doesnt work can u give more info re when its crashing, at the same time everytime, also in a new world
thanks![/quote]
Thanks ceejay402
I get you now. I should just add back the saves and download my store content again. My crashes were just random. I wasn't able to play for more than 10-15 minutes without a CTD. I tried loading from saves and also creating a new world.
- Go to my documents/Electronic Arts/Sims 3 Drag the Sims 3 folder to the desktop. Launch a new game and test. If this fixes the problem SAVE the test game and exit. Return saved material from the older files to the new ones.
for help with which files to move back to new files see here
I have never done this before and am about to poke my eyes out. o_O
"See if your error is gone. If so, you can put starting the folders back, starting with your saves. Check your game after every folder."
At this point, I have generated the new folder in my documents/Electronic Arts with a test save.
Do I replace all of the new folders with the old ones? Are there only specific ones I do? I need a bit more clarification on "start putting your folders back."
I see and understand the additional notes about specific files that are important to remember, but just in general, I'm confused.
Stafuny! you are too sweet and guess what i too just had to pull my sims 3 doc folder to get the launcher to open after patching...thats a first for me too LOL
i also forgot to add for installed worlds put back the world files.
I've already seen a couple times were people are reporting not being able to save after moving because it says that the game can't save while a move is in progress. Have you seen this one yet? Besides deleting caches and what not, is there anything else that might fix this?

Cool. Happy to help!
Yup. No problems yet. Although my game already wanted to crash on me while testing out the move town feature. I said nope!
Yeah. I'm getting some invisipost as well. Everyone is excited about the patch. I usually wait for mods, but I just had to try it out for myself.

sorry was having dinner ...
ok you shouldnt have to redownload content just replace the new files with the following old ones for installed sims3packs
dccache files and dcback up files.
also stafuny - you yourself determine which old files in addition to saves and the installed content you want to put back:
to determine what other files you may want to switch out new for old see this list for files to determine which may apply to you
http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Sims+3+Folder+Contents+FAQ
hopefully thats more helpful!
Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you for your patience and support!!!
