HotaruTomoe my advice was to run a ccleaner since you had uninstalled EPs not uninstall everything and then run a ccleaner. If you havent yet pull your sims 3 doc folder and test in the new world. See first post re how.
if this doesn't work contact customer service, good luck
CCleaner link you sent me cost 25$ to use, so yeah, I'm not going to buy and run the cleaner for a problem I never had until this new patch was created. I'm fairly confident enough to manually clean up my registry, which I've done before thousands of times. Followed all instructions for manually cleaning the registry as well as hidden folders, still no luck.
Thanks for the suggestion, guess I'm stuck waiting for EA to get back in contact with me.

So I got a hold of EA Tech and they are forwarding my case to a specialist since they've deemed that I've tried every fix I could and after checking my system dxdiag. If the specialist is able to get me a solution that works I'll post it up here in case others have the same problem...
For further reference on patch 1.54 (in case you aren't already aware)-
EA has a habit of already manufacturing their disks with the previous patch they made, usually the number before the patch they release on the launcher. Installing the disk before even getting the update results in this .
I've done all of this stuff. Why should this be my problem to fix when so many simmers are having the same problem! Get off your *** EA. I have a lot of money invested in my Games, and I'm sick and tired of my game loading when it wants to. I will leave it on when I eventually get it working and it will crash later on. I'm just sick of this stupid patch why can't EA assure us they are at least working on a solution, Is it because they would have to admit there is a problem :?: :!: :?:
After the patch 1.55 i can not log in most of the time. And when it works it just says username and not rugglis. And then it crash
sorry to hear rugglis, are you have a hard time logging in via launcher or in the game? try cleaning out IE cookies/history (the game and site use it even if you dont)
I have uninstalled all EPs, cleaned out my registry using CCleaner multiple times, deleted all my mods and uninstalled and reinstalled the base game twice. I've tried renaming and removing the sims 3 folder and I currently have no caches to delete.
When opening the launcher, I get a message 'there was an error during start-up. Please see log for details' and when I bypass the launcher I get a service initialization fail --0x0175dcbb. The game was playing fine before the update.
I have tried downloading from origin and from an alternative patch downloader from mod the sims, but with the same results.
I am also running the sims 3 on a mac, which I haven't yet updated to the new patch. My friend suggested that I reinstall the base game and the EPs that I have on my mac onto my windows computer, transfer over the files and try again with that... I'll give it a try as a last resort, but if anyone could give me a heads up before I have to install everything again, I'd appreciate it.

Set your computer back to a previous date before you downloaded the 1.55 patch, then play your game offline. It works for me. And forget about the download until EA fixes the problem.
I hope someone can help me, I think this patch is really messing me up. I've been wrestling with this game trying to fix the damage it's caused for several days now, with no luck. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times, cleaned up the registry, done clean restarts, but nothing seems to work. Finally today I did a windows system reset to wipe all of my programs out, because I had gotten to the point where my Sims games wouldn't even uninstall because it said the versions didn't match up.
Basically my main problems seem to be that 1) when I patch the game up, I can't chose households. I click the checkmark and it greys out. (This doesn't happen if I only have the base game loaded, only when I patch.)
2) When I log in to the game, it just says 'Welcome UserName' and then lists my simpoints. And even if I click the box that says to stay logged in, it doesn't.
If anyone could give me any suggestions or help, it would be greatly appreciated, because I'm at the end of my rope here. I've never had such a problem patching my game. I'd just like to get it back to playable condition, or else I'll never be able to get IP.

sorry to hear kaleidoscopes, can you tell me if the base game is installed and running and whether or not you have pull the sims doc folder, thanks
The Base Game was running fine (I assume,) until I patched, now it won't run correctly and no other expansions will run at all.
I've tried pulling the files, I've uninstalled, and cleaned out the registries, and re-installed.
The only other thing I'm going to try is uninstall just the base game, clean the regs, reinstall, but use superpatcher. But should I try to patch to 1.50 instead? Does it make a difference?
Edit: My progress- I uninstalled base game, cleaned regs, reinstalled, and then patched to 1.50 with Seasons and Uni installed as well. The not being able to choose a family problem doesn't seem to be there, but I can't log in anymore. It tells me in order to log in, I have to update to 1.55. So I don't know what's going on there.
I don't know whether to stay with what I have now, or chance my luck and patch to 1.55. (But not before creating a restore point!)

ok good, re logging in , store and exchange yes unfortunately unless you are patched to 1.55 you shouldnt be able to use any of these things.
re updating you could try to doing a system restore to before the patch issues, defrag, reboot, pull out your sims 3 doc folder and patch with the super patch

I completely give up.
I tried both the incremental patch up to 1.55 and when that didn't work I uninstalled, clean regs, pulled the files, reinstalled the base game, and then super patched it up to 1.55. Nope, problem still there. And this, everyone, is the definition of insanity.
I just don't know what to do. I can't move forward and I can't move backward.
(I can't do a system restore due to doing a system refresh after things got so screwy. So I'm starting from the ground up with my files here.)
so sorry kaleidoscopes, perhaps the thing to do is just enjoy the old patch for a bit and then contact CS via live chat and get your case kicked to a specialist, wish i had more to offer, good luck
Ugh. I dl'ed the patch today. I usually dont like to unless i have to, since they are time consuming aloone, but its also annoying to deal with the cc and updating mods. A new world i dl'ed required it, of course!
Of course now, its not loading all the way through :?. It loads most of the way, till a small tiny part of it wont load. Ive restarted my computer and tried again, even in a small, new file world.
And yes, i did try taking out my cc eventually to see if it would load. And it did, really fast as it should. I went to take out my nras mods to see if that was the issue. And they arent. So at least i know the sims three packs arent the problem, i dont dl much of them anyway.
I dont dl at much cc anymore either. I have dl'ed some shirts and hair since the patch. Mostly stuff from creators ive used cc from before. I also have some poses and sliders, but i am pretty sure you don't have to update them. Other than that, i have no other mods.
I do know that there is a manageable amount of cc i could check. But i obviously cant delete or move each piece to check. I think it must be some problem with some mod that needs an update, but i dont know which that would be, since my game was working fine before i installed the patch. I feel like im running out of options to fix this. Hopefully this makes some sense...

sorry i cant tell if you were able to DL and install the patch or not. also if you have missed any prior patch you would need to use the manual super patch - links are at first post, plus confirm your anti virus isnt blocking the installation or try running the manual patch as administrator if you have any issues
now re CC the patch is corrupting some CC both package and sims3pak if you have patched and now are having problems with CC see first post re problems after patching
Im sorry i wasnt clear. I did of course take out all my package file CC before i installed the patch. I have had cc for a few years now and i know how to dl patches with it. I put the CC back in before i tested my game, because i usually have no problems. But there was the loading problem with the CC in. When i took out my package file CC, it then loaded fast.
Putting the CC back in, I started to check for a few things, like my nras mods that i thought i had updated, and that wasnt the problem since it still wasnt loading all the way through.
So obviously it cant be corrupting my sims3pqcks since it loaded fine withjust that cc. And i must not need the super patch since it loaded without the package cc. And since i didnt install the patch with my package cc, surely the patch didnt corrupt it?
And i read through your op post, im not quite sure which of it applies to me.
when the patch came out this thread was showing only sims3paks getting corrupted now it appears many have package files as well damaged by the new patch
here's what i suggest - confirm your mods are up to date pull out again for CC package files and reinstall one from the third party site and test it.
my hunch is that your package some or all got fried by the patch and you can test each package file to see and for the ones that arent working go to the creators site and install new files.
Thank you! Oh gosh... I have hundreds of package files. I mean, its mostly just clothes and hair so losing some wouldnt be a big deal so this sounds like a lot of work. Stupid ea *sigh*. Are there any trends that you know of of which types of package files are getting corupt? Like poses or clothes or hair, or is it random?
The best thing i can think to do is, take a chunk of my cc out, see if it works then, put it back in in a new folder nd try a new chunk, and shorten the cc. I think, worst comes to worse, i may have to do that. I think im going to dl some tiny nothing world so this process will be even faster xD.
Just to confirm, some of the package tiles are corupted even if you didnt install the patch with the package files? The script of the patch just changed some of the package files to corruption? Also, do you think it could just be one corupt package file, or a lot, or a few? I need to have a ballpark idea for me to fix this .
yea its a pain simsgal2227, my CC got fried as well. first do try reinstalling one small package file you know is crashing the game. if a new file is working then in some impressive way the patch as able to mess with your files.
as for any trends - i find many times make up gets zapped with patch updates but since you have lots of files just do as you suggested start grouping and testing - at least this way if everything is fried youll know sooner than later
