Well - it's over for this little family of gnomes.

First thing I noticed is one of them turned into an evil looking gnome and it seems to be the Gnome of Death. A bit like the Gnome Grim Reaper. It moved around them and now it looks like they are all gone. Lots of little gold statues.

In the meantime, one of the Sims fished a Magical Gnome of Invention out of the Wishing Well.

Here are the last few pictures of this gnome story - which I'm sure will continue with a new family of gnomes about to appear???

Fall arrived so I closed up the greenhouse. Don't want the plants in there to go dormant.

The elderly gnomes gathered out front for a get-together.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-344_zps8cd44a60.jpg

While many of the old gnomes were enjoying the sun, a few were in the back room where the swimming pool, tree of prosperity and wishing well are - along with a few other things.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-345_zps26c0a968.jpg

Grace decided to have a home birth and found she had a gnome for company.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-351_zpsbfb9f4d7.jpg

Baby Janice arrived with the brave and disciplined traits.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-352_zpsce58bbd1.jpg

The old gnomes spent some time examining the Chicken Coop.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-354_zpsdf4e5f2f.jpg

Grace's mother, Ebony made a wish for happiness while the gnomes watched silently.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-357_zps14f352f6.jpg

Look closely in this image above. At the back of the picture, near the swimming pool there is a dark gnome without a cane. I think he is the baby gnome I was so happy to have. I didn't see him being a teenager - unless that was him being a teenager when he was lying around all white and I thought he must be a child.

I think he may also be in the other pictures above with the chicken coop, but he is partly hidden by other gnomes so I can't really tell for sure.

This next image is the first close up I got of him. I think it must have been on the night of the full moon.

    Thanks.

I like your nice new avatar.

    Have a Happy Day:

Thank you. :D She's actually a triplet. But my favorite. Her mom is the avatar I had before.
So, you have to have the tree of prosperity near the well to see the pixies? Well no wonder I haven't seen any. lol I thought you only need both installed. Do you need story progression on to see gnomes age? I don't use SP because I don't want it to move my families out of town.

Great pics Karritz and Samantha. :P

I've never seen them do this before.

I just added mods this week.

I do have Story Progression on but that is just the version that comes with the EA Game. I have ageing turned off and age my Sims up as I want. This often means moving a Sim into my active household so I can age them up and maybe get them a few more skills, then move them back home.

The mods I have are Nrass Overwatch, Traveler and Master Controller.

I got them to see if they made any difference to the game. They seem to fix the stuck Sims problem.

Pre Mods, if I played multiple families I would just make sure I kept in touch with them all by visiting, or having them move in with my current household, or I'd just switch between households fairly often.

That way I seem to be able to keep track of them. But I haven't had more than 3 generations before the game became unplayable. I'm hoping with mods now I will be able to get further before the game becomes unplayable.

This particular game I'm playing now did become unplayable and I wanted to have a go at some of those old games I spent so much time on before they got to the point where I couldn't play them any more. That's why I got the mods now.

I see I have at least 2 other households (unrelated to this one) that I had set up when this was my current game. It was from before WA was released.

In this game, one of the issues was the main couple became separated while I was playing another household. He moved out and I eventually found him living in a different household. I moved him back in but their relationship had broken and they didn't know each other even though they had been married with 3 children when I left them alone for too long.

Now when I opened the game with mods, they are back together again. So I don't know if the mod fixed it or if I found a save game that was before they got split up. O think the mod must have fixed it though because their eldest daughter is married and already had a child when I opened the game this time. I think that her marriage happened after her parents became strangers. I just gave up on the game at that point as I couldn't get them to be anything other than strangers. I kept the save but started a new game - in the vain hope that EA might eventually fix some of these issues.

They had a huge garden for the size of the lot. They have way too many money trees, omni plants and death flowers; and got lots of gnomes from getting metals smelted. It is a game I've always had in the back of my mind to resurrect. And its been fun so far with all these gnomes.

I'm about to post the gnome tombstone pictures now. I think they have all become tombstones now. I don't know where that killer gnome is though. His appearance reminds me of the Phantom of the Opera - or a Vampire. Maybe he's a cross between the two.

Edit: I think you just have to have the TOP on the same lot as the Wishing Well. But I like to put them close together.

This is the end of the gnomes in my garden...

    Gnomes_Screenshot-363_zps681088aa.jpg

At this point I am wondering what this dark gnome is and where he came from?

    Gnomes_Screenshot-364_zpsfc205ac6.jpg

The old gnomes are still making their presence felt in the house.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-366_zps6face477.jpg

This is when I first got the idea that they were dying...

    Gnomes_Screenshot-375_zps3145ef50.jpg

That dark gnome is in this picture - close to the camera, looking at the other old gnomes who are still living at the moment

    Gnomes_Screenshot-376_zpsb1e91a4f.jpg

A few more tombstones have appeared - and that dark gnome is in the picture again.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-377_zpsef46e44c.jpg

I found one on the front path

    Gnomes_Screenshot-378_zps7d79f8e7.jpg

And more on the other side of the lot. It is interesting how one often seems to be standing in the middle of the fence.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-379_zps2de64dd6.jpg

This is when I start thinking that dark gnome must be the gnome Grim Reaper. There seem to be only two gnomes left alive at this moment...

    Gnomes_Screenshot-380_zps7f999a88.jpg

And then there was one ...

    Gnomes_Screenshot-383_zps0ced6307.jpg

I was trying to get a clear shot of his face - it isn't easy even though they aren't moving.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-385_zps59c0a406.jpg

Of course, by the end the path to the front door is clogged with gnome tombstones.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-387_zpsda9f8b61.jpg

I think I'll gather all the tombstones in one place.

Interestingly all of the gnomes were named. I know I do have a habit of clicking onto them occasionally and accepting the default name. Even that dark gnome is named - and I am almost certain he is that baby who appeared right at the beginning.

At least now I won't worry about allowing other types of gnomes loose in this household for fear of them ganging up on the old residents. One of my Sims already has a Magical Gnome of Invention in his inventory - he fished it out of the Wishing Well. I might let it out of his inventory now.

At least I still have the original save tucked safely away so I can resurrect them all if I really want to. Right now I really don't want to. But it reminds me a bit of those theories of many different parallel universes with many different possible outcomes.

My big question is : what is that dark gnome? Is he just a lonely teenager who has been left lonely after all of his family has gone and died of old age? Or is he some sort of grim reaper of gnomes? I have heard of teenage gnomes - but not grim reaper gnomes. So he's probably just an unlucky teenager who will live for a while until he grows old and dies - or until one of the vampire (or other) gnomes gets him.

I found Galen still alive with Kasey standing near him.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-392_zps07920491.jpg

I put Galen up on a 1 tile wide ledge I make in my 2 story high greenhouses to get him out of the way of Kasey. But Galen poofed away and I found them together.

The next second it was just Kasey and Galen's tombstone.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-394_zps676a43e9.jpg

    Then there was just Kasey

    Gnomes_Screenshot-397_zps1b9612ff.jpg

Since there are so many gnome tombstones scattered all over the lot, I moved them. I couldn't think where to put them at first, then I remembered that 1 tile wide ledge I put around the first floor of my 2 story high greenhouses.

I decided to move all of the gnome tombstones up there. I made it a stone floor instead of the usual wood and placed all 42 gnome tombstones up there.

I noticed they are each worth approximately 1500 simoleans.

BTW I put that ledge up there in my greenhouses to make it easier to place the windows.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-398_zps5a045f93.jpg

Now I'm going to unleash some other gnomes in this garden and watch Kasey to see what happens to him. The only other gnome I have at the moment is that Magical Gnome of Invention one of my Sims has in his inventory. But I will now plant some plasma fruit so I suspect there will be vampire gnomes around soon too.

The baby/toddler gnomes, grow into the one with the dungarees and a hat thats still too big, thats their child version, and the dark gnome the teen. I've never kept a household running long enough since the babies finally started appearing in my game to actually get to the teen point before. I swear they've changed something about how the gnomes work, because the babies seem to be much more common and I used to loose gnomes, I thought they just sort of wandered off because I'd not see them round the lot again, nor see their little golden gravestones.

Its so sad to see all those gnomes grow old and die :(

Is it only the mysterious gnome that can have babies and grow old? I've not noticed any of the others mutliply (except the vampire with the teddies)

Thank you SamanthaJane for clearing that up about the teenage gnome.

I just wondered about it when it always seemed to be there and then there'd be more gnome tombstones. Then in the end when I looked at Galen he looked so old that he was so ready for his tombstone and he popped away from where I'd put him to be with the teenager I wondered if maybe he really was just a teenager and not a grim reaper.

At least this thread seems to have shown the whole life cycle of the Mysterious Mr Gnome in his current format.

I see my teenager is starting to grow a beard. It is Autumn in my game now and starting to snow. He is face down in the snow all alone. I hope he doesn't feel the cold. At least he can pop into the greenhouse any time he wants to. The gnomes seem to prefer being under plants.

So I added the Magical Gnome of Invention and accepted the suggested name of Betrice for it.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-404_zps98d7a9e2.jpg

I hope they get along. I'd hate to see Kasey's gold tombstone before he becomes a very old gnome.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-415_zpsacd9226f.jpg

I decided to keep an eye on my pair of gnomes. Soon I discovered Betrice had disappeared. Then I found it inside out of the rain and on top of the Scraptronic Workbench

Karritz, I love your Beatrice gnome. I want one! :P The current household I'm playing have only these gnomes. But three magician gnomes. I thought the second from the left came from the inventing table but your Beatrice is the inventing gnome. Since I named mine, now I can't look to see where he's from. And, I can't believe I don't have a vampire gnome with all the vamps living there. lol

I will play with sp on but aging off to see what happens.

Karritz, I've loved reading your story of the gnomes. Your pictures are so wonderful. I've had Gnomes of Invention before, but I've never really paid much attention to them. I really like how his body is an old can of tomatoes.

Your home and gardens are beautiful, by the way :).

You have three of the gnomes in this picture that I've not yet seen in any of my games.

From left to right you have:

Zenyatta - he is the horse gnome and apparently he appears when you have a horse that 🐸🐸🐸🐸 salt something like 60 times. I have had a horse in a game a couple of times but haven't played the game long enough to get one of these gnomes.

Magical Gnome of Sculpting - I think I've had this one a few times. I have the sculpting bench in my current game in Riverview. Hopefully he'll turn up soon to be company for the Magical Gnome of Inventing that I already have.

Troglodyte Gnome - I have no idea how he appears. But I would love to have one in my game.

Cranstan Boonitz the Magician Gnome - I have had different versions of him but not this one.

Vampire gnomes are easy to get. Just plant Plasma Fruit in your garden. I think you need 6 plants that are of a particular quality. I forget which but they seem to get there quickly. Once you get one Vampire gnome buy lots of teddy bears and put them down and she'll quickly start converting them to more Vampire gnomes. Apparently some players use this process to make Simoleans for their game. The bears cost about 50 and the gnomes sell for about 1000. I started doing it to sell them. I sold the first one and decided to keep the rest.

It will be interesting to see if you notice a difference in your game with SP on and ageing off. I turn ageing off because it gives me more control. Sometimes I turn ageing on again for a day or two to keep my families with the children/teens in the right chronological order. But I don't always bother to do that.

Now that it looks like my mods may have fixed my family tree issues I might play families more often. I stopped having families in my games when children started forgetting who their parents were in a household. It all got a bit much to cope with.

For over a year now I've played with households of 8 unrelated young adults. I vary their traits and life states and if I have at least one evil one in the group - it is fun to sit back and just watch what they get up to. I got the Big Meanie Badge this way - and I didn't even see half the fights that got it for me.

I just found out that those Gnome Memorials give 5 environment points. And I have 42 of them all sitting in a room that no one can go into. Maybe I should think of moving them around the house placed strategically on shelves. It could be an easy way to get the Beautifully Decorated moodlet.

I just had another thought. I wonder if I put them all down on the floor of the greenhouse if they'd get the Unfinished Room moodlet which they are getting now because of the grass floor, or if the 42 x 5 would overcome this and give them the beautifully decorated moodlet instead? I'd like to keep them around the garden as they love to be under the plants. That is the best place to find them in your game - even if you have all plants in planter pots. The gnomes will be lying under the bits of the plants that are hanging over the edge of the planter pots.

I thought I'd quickly add two new screenshots of the gnomes currently in my game.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-419_zps66c184ca.jpg

He finally moved and is giving the V for Victory salute.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-421_zps0055594f.jpg

It bothered me that in the previous screen shot this guy didn't appear to have any arms. So I when I saw the arms I just had to get another shot of him.

EDIT: Still resizing pictures. They did fit nicely without resizing when I put them here in the first place. I'm glad I finally looked to see what had happened to them. The gnomes weren't visible in many of them any more. This resizing should fix it.

    Hi Pandora

It looks like you have a few gnomes there. I know what it feels like then they finally show up. Some times I wait and wait and wait and nothing happens.

It is not always easy to get things to happen that might make a gnome appear and then the chances of having them actually appear when that event happens is so small. That is why when I get a game that has gnomes popping up everywhere I find it such a big deal.

The gnomes I had in this game were all from 2009 when I first started playing and I got them from the mail when I sent metals off to have them smelted or gems to be cut.

I think the game has changed since then and I don't send things off for smelting or gem cutting so often.

Is that a laundry gnome I see sitting on your bridge? Some times he just appears unexpectedly, but lately I find he just doesn't want to make an appearance. I did get one recently in another game and I was so surprised to see him.

Thank you for posting. I'll be putting more pictures of my gnomes up over the weekend - that's a positive thought as I have to get more to appear in the game before I can put their pictures up.

Here are my latest gnomes. The 3 on left I got from fishing in the well, and the vampire gnome I got by planting 7 plasma friuts. She turned a bear into a vampire gnome but I gave myself an error code 12 from bouncing here and there, buymode and simporting like crazy. I only lost one sim day because I've saved frequently. It turned out well because my sim needed a pink heart-shaped diamond she found at the consingnment store. It wasn't there before. :P Anywho, thanks for all your advice, Karritz. Oh, and for the laundry bear, I removed all the clothes hampers from the house, then as I did laundry for the next few days, he showed up. I want at least two of everything. I'm collecting one of each gem including it's dust. The tiberium heart- shaped gem and dust breaks off like the spiral one does. :D

I work the next two nights so I won't play until Saturday evening. But I may be able to lurk around here and respond. I'll get DV then too. woot! :P

Congratulations on the success with the wishing well and laundry.

Did you see the pixies yet?

A good way to get gemstones is to have a disciplined sim and a board breaker from China.

The disciplined sim only wants to break boards if they also have the board breaker and sometimes you have to take it away from them or you end up with wall to wall gems and it becomes a job for another sim to collect them and cut them. The gems come from breaking space rocks.

    Screenshot-471_zps553da121.jpg

I hope he stays an adult for a while I don't need any new gnome tombstones just yet.

Meanwhile, Grace and her dad Ian are working on their skills while Beatrice the Gnome of Inventions watches. He popped away seconds after this screenshot was captures. He was later seen momentarily stretched out on the lawn.

It is Cranston Boonitz the Magic Gnome. There are no magicians in the household - but I'm not sending him back.

It seems to me that they've changed the look of Cracklin Nackerbell. She came out of the haunted house at the Fall Festival. I sent all of my Sims in there until one of them got the gnome.

    Gnomes_Screenshot-8_zps1bf78b0a.jpg

And this is the first Mysterious Mr Gnome I've got out of the Wishing Well for a very long time.

There are a couple of other gnomes around the lot somewhere too.
