Game crashes every time I try to build a second story on my house.

Has any one else had this problem? Every time I try to build a second story on to my sims house my game crashes. I tested it by trying to build something on the first floor and it was fine. The minute I try to add the second story it crashes again. Is there a way to fix this? I don't have any cc or mods.
