Here's a pic of Mexican houses that I got from National Geographic. Never been to Mexico so I don't have any pics of my own  Love the warm vibrantness and how colourful it is. (:
Gondolas and canal in Mexico, also from Nat Geo. *daydreaming about a Sims 3 world with gondolas* :XD:
HAHA Candy bowl ... never thought of it that way. I like that.
Oh yay, a river for gondolas! Edit: Trying to make gondolas but it didn't work. The smallest size for houseboats couldn't pass for a gondola, I think and the water vehicles can be recoloured in some parts but not everywhere to make them look like those in the pic. Plus, they don't have the right detail. It was worth a try though. :XD:
Yeah, I think so too about the EPs.
Thanks, Zach! Looking good so far. Looking forward to seeing more pics.
Hi Zach! beautifull "cabaña", you have awesomely captured the "Gaudi" flavour.
I am done by now, Caceres is at the exchange, so I don´t know how but if I get your beta and you just tell me what lot and which kind of building and I will be on duty! I am really excited with this Mexico project of yours, it looks fantastic!
I can play at last TS2 TS3 and TS4 So great that toddlers are here!!!
I'll work on the world a tiny bit more before the beta. What I'll do is assign a lot number and let you create to your heart's content. I will have some guidelines for each lot though.
For now, I'd just suggest that you look at some pictures of the Coyoacan district in Mexico City. These will be the inspiration for the larger lots. Campeche's buildings will be guides for smaller designs.
Ports are public lots. A houseboat can dock there and as soon as it's vacant, another houseboat can dock there. Houseboats can be set as community lots too. So, I think your festival floats idea could definitely work.
Hmmm ... houseboats can definitely be created in 'edit in town' mode and I'm pretty sure it can be done in the game as well .... I just can't remember how. :XD:
Alright! Lot-building. Do I upload it to the Exchange? How does a beta work?
For the Beta, the idea is to keep it as private as possible, although I don't mind if you share your lots on the exchange as you build them.
It does make it easier though, if you could use either google drive or dropbox.
The beta is a preliminary world that you can download to your game and create a save file with. Rather than playing with sims, you just use the Edit Town mode and build in the empty lots.
Tomorrow, I'll be getting you guys a beta to work with.
EDIT: I might not have Island Paradise or Seasons for a tiny bit, so it's probably best to keep items from those games out of your builds. Later when I get it, we can add that stuff in.
Nah, I'm just wondering whether you upload lots to the Exchange when building a world together and that's how you share it. The lot, if it pass muster , I'll most probably upload after the world is finished and released.
Okay, beta tomorrow and in the meantime, researching, researching ...
Time to get my hands on a dropbox or google drive.
I have already a gmail acount and a dropbox though I don´t know how you manage to share, should I leave my gmail here? and how do I open my dropbox to you (may be silly but I just use dropbox to move files from my pc to my laptop so you have to show me those things like to a ten years old kid)
Don´t you worry about uniqueness, when you start to spread those nice houses full with colours it will look quite unique.
I would like to try my hand with the Spanish School (the red one) or the Fine Arts Palace (the last) but only if you have them in mind or you think they go with your project, or may be one "manzana" withs this lovely looking facades
I can play at last TS2 TS3 and TS4 So great that toddlers are here!!!
You can absolutely build the Palacio de Bellas Artes! It'd go well next to the cathedral, don't you think?
The only thing is, I'm wondering what to make the Casa Azul into. Should it be a museum, or just a normal house with a sim-version of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera?
I made some longer lots so that we can definitely replicate that avenue!
I also love those pictures of the campechano fishing boats!
Here are some ideas for items that are extremely common in Mexico:
Angular patterns like this are very traditional in woven goods
I guess there's more we can do with wicker than we might think!
Blue and white pottery
These papier mache figurines are called Alebrijes. I have my room decorated with some and I adore them!
For the terra cotta tiles in the houses I've finished so far, I've used the plastics section so that the floor reflects light. That way, it looks like they've been kiln-fired.
That tile work is scrumptious! Love all the inspiration shots. I'm willing to try building some lots, but I might need some hand-holding. Any info, pics, hints, tips, etc. that you offer are appreciated! :-)
Off to check out the new thread...
The Sims
Where are we going, and why am I in this hand basket?!
awesome! I've been promoting on Tumblr with a bunch of queued pics. They are pretty popular.
Actually, I'll just post them here so you can see without slogging through my tumblr:
I still can't believe how stunning this world is after looking at what I've done so far with Las Palomas. Haha, I'm sure we'll be able to put together something that will have the same level of adventure.

I haven't got Island Paradise or Seasons yet, for this world, both of them will be a MUST. I'll be sure to put in a river for gondolas!
I'm excited for Caceres Junceda!
Here's some pics of the small bits I have finished so far:
A small cabana, with some inspiration from the architect Antonio Gaudi:

It'd be cool to have some grungy/ festive floats.

Sneek peek!
Something's nagging me about what I have done so far...
no identity yet... no uniqueness...

*hopes for money from google in return for plug*
And Frida Kahlo's Blue house:
I'll get a gmail just for world-building then.
As for the world's uniqueness, I think it'll come together on its own. If that makes any sense at all. :XD:
Edit: Thanks for the pics! Only just saw them.
AND another blue park in this new mexican city, also based on a real life destination?
Coincidence? I think...
yes it was a coincidence
Pictures of Campeche. This one shows its harbor.
Temple of Five Stories, Etzna.

That's our new thread! Right now, there's no real name for the world (just a name for the project) So throw some names at me and we'll see!
