One question, though. I've got a fairground lot in my game and when I place a Seasonal Lot Marker on it I want to make sure that its current appearance is how it looks for summer, then have it change for Spring/Fall/Winter. Is there a way to bring all the common objects over into the summer layer so that they are one and the same, and then make changes to the common once I know its current appearance will be its summer appearance? I'm sorry for the complicated question, I confused myself just writing it, but I want to make sure I'm fully ready when Seasons comes.
If you place the Seasonal Lot Marker down on a lot that already has a bunch of objects on it, all of those objects will automatically be considered part of "Common" mode when the marker is placed.
What you could do is use the marker to set the lot mode to summer, then grab any of the transparent objects you want to have assigned to summer to pull them over to that mode of the lot. There isn't an automatic way to do it all at once.
Good question though, I'll add something on that to the FAQ!
Just to be sure and confirm, if you place a lot that will change seasonally, for example a festival lot, if you then in the household enter testingcheatsenabled true, go out to edit town, choose the lot and go in to build/edit on it, it's just like when you're in the middle of building your own seasonally changing lot, right?
I'm not entirely sure I understand what you're asking, but are you trying to find out if you can go back and continue editing a lot with a seasonal lot marker after it was initially built? If so, the answer is yes.
is it possible to have an object 2 seasons long or in all seasons except 1? or do you need to place it multiple times.
thank you for the tutorial.
If you wanted to place a particular object that looked the same in spring/summer/fall, but did not appear in winter, you would need to place that object on the lot three times in each of those different modes. There's no way to share a single object across multiple versions of the lot unless they're in Common mode.
What happens if during game play I live drag an object from my Sim onto a lot which then rotates to a different mode before I reclaim that object?
Any object that was live dragged from a Sim onto a lot and remains on the lot when that lot switches to a different mode due to a Seasonal Lot Marker will be returned to the inventory of the Sim that owned that object.
So say I'm a teen and I went to prom. And at prom I was picked as prom queen. *yay* So now at home I proudly display my crown and photo on the wall shelf. The next day, dad wins the international cup with our family's chestnut stallion, and he places the trophy on display down in the den. Mom finds a cute little laundry gnome and places him on the table in the laundry room. The next day while everyone is asleep... the lot shifts in preparation for summer.
Does this mean my crown, dad's trophies and mom's gnome are all back in our inventories and must be placed again.. and again every season? Or perhaps if I entered into the lot marker and said to lock in common.. would that give items placed down in the world permanence to last through season changes (provided they aren't moved... and I have no idea how that might work with gnomes.. who are always moving on their own anyway.)
Perhaps too that night (before change) poor dad dies in freak accident (perhaps something involving the horses, the pool, and that same laundry gnome popping up in the stallion's stall under his nose). I know mom would inherit his inventory... so dad's trophy that pop's back (if it does) would then automatically reroute to her inventory, right?
Also raises the question.. what happens to dirty plates left out after dinner, the puddle from the leaking faucet, and the pile of clothes left on the floor? They have no "inventory" they came from (though they do have a triggering sim) are they exempt and remain through the change? Or do the triggering sims find a nasty little surprise in their inventory when they wake up? (how would one hold a puddle, anyway? lol)
Edit:
Eee, another thought. Say crazy uncle the alchemist collects and hoards all the gems and metals he finds in the alchemy cabinet (which has been locked into common, like the wall shelf and the table in the laundry room). Will all those things placed in that cabinet remain too? I'm assuming the cabinet (and fridge) is scripted as it's own inventory, and so I'm hoping isn't recognized as "placed in the world"

Thank you for answering my question. I'm thinking of saving all the colour styles I've used, taking screenshots of the lot in Common mode and then placing all the objects in the Summer mode exactly as they are in the normal version. Would this work fine or is there a more efficient way to drag objects onto another layer without deleting the original?
I wasn't sure what the "Construction" layer was for, so I just left that alone. But it seems that isn't necessary for a residential lot anyway.
One question though, you say we shouldn't put rabbit holes onto any layer other than "Common", does this mean AdventFear's idea of using the marker to only have the school appear in Spring, Fall and Winter could cause problems? I did try to place it on the marker yesterday, and had it on everything but summer without problems, but obviously I couldn't actually test it until Seasons is out. That's why I didn't mention that in my tutorial. I saved the lot to the bin before trying it, though, so if you don't recommend having the school on the marker, it's easy to undo
Now that I'm completely sure what to do, I think I'll start updating a couple of the other community lots in Sunset Valley with markers. I'm updating it with lots from the other EPs (and other extras, such as adding a real sandbox to the school (the one from Gen), using some seasonal lot markers, adding diving boards, etc) to get it ready for Seasons. Looking forward to it... a lot :P
ETA: So, if I understand this right, the construction layer is to give the effect of Sims setting up the festival, rather than it instantly changing?
In my updated version of Maywood Glen, I placed a handful of objects from each season on the construction layer, but only some are in their correct place. The rest are placed "at the side" as though they've just been put there while the rest of the stuff is brought over :P
Thank you for this tutorial. I really appreciate it. May have some questions after my attempt to edit lots for seasons, but right now it is all foreign to me.
Bookmarking, and thanks again.
Nothing to see. I don't even care about the forums.
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I was wondering if the lot marker is required on a home lot? Or will I miss out on anything by not having it on my lot?
Also I have a custom user world so do I need to place this in the world or will the seasons expansion pack automatically place them?
Grahm thanks so much for writing this up. I am eager to try it out , i think i can do it. But now i know it will be a challenge So glad you all allowed us to make our own lots though.
Thank you for posting the FAQ for the tombs! I am definitely interested in that!
However, I must say, that about the Showtime stages, we do not have access to the proprietor objects unless we place a pre-created lot, so... I guess we either don't need to worry about that, or it needs to be re-flagged!
What if we delete the parent (for example, a table) in Common but we have placed a decor item on top of it in Spring Mode. Will it be floating on Spring?
And about the Construction period, can we extend it or mod it maybe?

About the collectibles that haven't been collected when their spawners removed in the next seasons. What will happen to them?
Thank you for the tutorial, Graham!
When I heard that this particular feature would be for advanced builders, I was initially worried how complicated it would be; but after reading this tutorial, it actually seems a little easier than what I thought!
Thanks for the information, this looks good, and the tutorial is great and very in depth, I hope I can understand and do it myself. I love the blueprint mode the most.
Thanks for the guide! On my next day off I'm going to go around a lot of my world and start sprucing things up in time for the EP. :] I think Apaloosa Plains is a good town to start!

I actually made my own tutorial on the marker based on what I learned from experiments yesterday. Looks like I was about 95% correct :P

Same.
I'm very impatient to see the effects with the seasons :-)

About the collectibles that haven't been collected when their spawners removed in the next seasons. What will happen to them?
Thank you, Graham
It answers this in the guide. :? If you do not have Seasons then the lot with the marker will appear as the version you have selected it to show.
