i am also experiencing the same problem. I just bought a new macbook pro about 2 weeks ago, the game ran great for about a week then all of the sudden today i get a disk authorization error....my comp can read other disk like dvds and cds fine but for some reason now it wont authorize the game. A little help would be nice.

My nephew has the same exact problem and has posted a thread on here as well. Course NO ONE has yet to respond back to him with a fix as I see the same in your thread. Which is crying shame!! They've helped him with his mouse disappearing act, but nothing of the sort to help him with this obviously huge problem, as I see there are many of you with the same disk authorization error. I hope someone helps all of you as I'm sure you all are wanting to get back to playing the game we all love so much.

As for me, I do have issues with the game myself but it's not as big an issue as you all have. Believe you me, I've been in your shoes before many many many times and wondered "why does this always happen to me". Guess this time having my fingers crossed helped me some because with my fix will be with a new graphics card which in time will happen soon!! I hope!! :-) But seriously I do hope someone helps you soon!!!

I have had this same issue with my Mac! I bought the game on the release date and had been playing it with no issues until now. I downloaded the new patch, but everything worked fine until yesterday... I wonder what changed? And why haven't any of the Guru posted here regarding this? I refuse to believe that they haven't been contacted.

I'm having the same problem...it gets my hopes up by loading it all the way until where I would choose a family, then it decides that it doesn't know if my disc is valid. -sigh-

Wow this kind of scaring me a little...I've only been playing the game about a week, on my MacBook Pro. Hope this doesn't happen. If it does...I'll see what I can dig up for a fix...I'm a Mac geek so...

Let us know if there's any info we can provide. I'm running 10.5.7 on a Intel Core 2 Duo (iMac). I also play Spore which has no problems (just saying 'cause it's another EA game-- but yah it doesn't use a CD to play). I use an external HD for Time Machine and occasionally I have a removable USB which I only use as a scratch drive. I don't run any background apps either (well actually I run Little Snitch but it hasn't flagged anything) The only thing I can think of if someone used a keygen and it generated all our codes which they banned Monday??

Hey Simmers. I'm sorry to hear about your problems with the disc authentication errors you are reporting. We'd like to address this issue in a game update, but need some more info about the problem:

Error logs should be getting created on systems that are displaying this problem. You can find the error log in the following location: <user home folder>/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/DiscFailure.log

Please send that log to mailto:TS3Issues@ea.com. Thank you for your patience and thank you again for taking the time to help the Sims community as a whole.

Same Here. I've been playing since TS3 came out. This disk failure didn't come up until the day before yesterday. It also uninstalled my Riverview. Which I have played without any problems. It changed some of my rewards and now my sims complain they can't walk where they could walk yesterday. This family is in Sunset. I am playing on a new iMac pro without any hacks, mods or cc.

Note: I have looked in the TS3 folder and can not find any error logs or disc failure logs. What now?

I've suddenly started to have this same problem lately as well. It happened once back on launch day and it hadn't happened again until this past Saturday. It now happens about every 3rd time or so that I try to launch the game. I play on a "unibody" MacBook and I've installed the patch. I also don't see the discfailure.log file in that location.

I was not surprised that there was no such .log in The Sims 3 folder on my mac. But I was curious about what the .logs were so I opened one anyway. It took me to a application called Console which records different errors that occur on your computer. Then I went to File>Open Console Log and it opened all the errors that had occurred in the past two days. If you've tried playing the Sims recently, the error should be there. I don't know if this is going to help the gurus at all, but I emailed them with it and I suppose its worth a try.

Hmmm.... so my game works now... I bookmarked this thread so I'll post again if it works tomorrow!!

EDIT: It had previously had this disc authorization failure. 2 days in a row, every time. And now it works, every time-- I didn't change anything!

I've played a 100 times since the game came out with no problems. Now all of the sudden I'm getting this disc authentication error and cannot play. I'm really trying to understand the reason. I've also looked for your folder and it doesn't exsist. I have the updates, nothing seems different. This really needs to be fixed.

UPDATE: I tried ejecting my disc and starting over but it still didn't work. Finally I took the disc out and shut down my computer, rebooted then put the disc back in. Worked again. Hopefully this was just a one time thing.

I haven't had any authorisation errors since the 1.2.7 patch. Keeping my fingers crossed though.

the same has happened to me! The first time i played on it, it said the error message and again a few days later. I played on it without trouble until today, when i got home i started it up and it said the disc authorization failure! I haven't changed anything! I am again disappointed as i really want to get back to the game :(

I've been playing just fine since the release date. Until last night when it suddenly gave me the same error. I found that ejecting the disk and putting it back in fixes the problem, personally. I'm just not sure why the error started popping up when nothing had changed since the last time I'd played. No mods or anything funky installed for the game (only World of Warcraft and Adobe Photoshop installed as extra programs on the computer, so there shouldn't be any conflicting programs with it).

Using the latest tower, so it's not outdated parts that are causing the problem. And yes, I'm patched and up-to-date :)

I have played this game on a Toshiba and (currently) on the macbook pro since the release day and I have not gotten this message until a few minutes ago. I even played earlier today and had no problems. However, in my case, taking the disk out and putting it back in did not make the error go away.

I keep getting this error, I took the disk out twice but it still didn't work. I just installed the new update, I think that might be it. I'm using my macbook...

    SOMEONE FIX THIS!!

Nice to know I'm not alone. I just sent an email to the TS3issues@ea.com with all my system info, hopefully they can get a patch out soon. Seems Mac users and people with that one specific DVD drive on Toshiba PCs are having the most problems. My game ran fine yesterday (when I bought it) and today I downloaded the free new town and my $10 of Sims points and it didn't work. But I see some of you were playing Riverview with no problems, so it can't be this extra content that's causing this error. Keep us posted EA!

Aarg! I have played with no technical problems since the release date, and tonight, with NO changes to software or hardware or settings since the last time I played, I am getting the disk authorization error.

I have removed and reinserted the disc. I have restarted. Nothing helps. I have sent an email to TS3Issues with my system specs and my Console log. Hopefully they will help me soon.

Does anyone have a comforting, encouraging success story to share while I wait? Anyone?

It failed last night even after trying multiple things to fix it myself. Earlier today it still wouldn't work, then suddenly it did. I don't know what was different, if anything, but I've been playing for the past 3 hours or so. All my downloaded content was there too, even though it had said that failed as well.

*shrugs* Very strange. I will keep posting if the situation changes, but for now, my disc is working fine.

After the total meltdown yesterday, today it's working fine again, even though I changed nothing.

But hooray for the game working!

Now to decide about the patch thing.
