Rio Rojo - Southwest World - on the Exchange!

«1
Hello,
I made my own height-map, I took this from a region to the west of Santa Fe. I am still looking for a name for it (suggestions?). I have most of the Community lots done, and about half the houses. I will try to make mostly new houses instead of using ones from my library, but as house-building isn't my forte, you may see a few of my old ones in there, possible a few tweaked EA houses.

All epansions & stuff packs except Outdoor Living, and Sweet Treats. I've also put the Lucky Simoleon Casino in (gambling is addicting, even for Sims apparently, I had a hard time getting my Sim out of there!), but won't upload it to the Exchange, but it does fit in nicely downtown :D.

I plan on sprucing up the paint in the outlying mountains, just lazy

Lovely! :-) . If you need any new houses for the world, feel free to browse my studio (just keep my name in the lot description for credit  ) I dunno If any of my houses would suit the style, but if there are any that do, you may use them. I have some villa type lots and a lot of other american styles in there. I'm more in to building for the grassy terrain style tho lol.

Thanks elle0808, I would definately give you credit, I'll have a peak in your studio :D.

Conorsim, I'm afraid I can't take any credit for the DT (it's Egypt), and not much of the terrain sculpting as I used Earth Explorer for the height-map. I think I just got lucky and managed to snag a piece of New Mexico that fit the Egypt Distant Terrain. It does blend in quite nicely :D

Ah now, ya didn't have to tell me that! I wouldn't have known if you didn't tell me :P It's still very beautiful and it does blend in quite nicely

    Thanks Rflong7 :D

And Docsprock, I had to Google Moab as the only one I could think of was the biblical one. It is beautiful there, somehow I didn't picture Utah as looking like Moab does.

Sedona is a pretty name gmgar, but I think for this town, I'll use an imaginary one if possible.

Citytube, that is a beautifully named street. I usually get to live on numbered streets, like right now, I live on 51 st. How exciting huh?

Thanks BobbleBean, Euphorial Queen, and auntielynds. Of course I learned how to make my own heightmaps from your tutorial :D

Just wanted to say I put the Lucky Simoleon casino in just beacuse I downloaded it from the store, and had that perfect sized lot open in this WIP. I wanted to gamble so bad which is strange as in real life, I am not a gambler, I've spent 50 cents on Video Lottery Machines. I think it would be okay to leave it in there as it should only be in those who may download the world's version only if they own it?

Here's a few more photos, nothing too much new, just the town filling out a bit more :D

I've got about 5 more houses to build, the Graveyard (I hate building them, not sure if I'm afraid of my own mortality ), and of course the routing. I'm pretty sure that'll be loads of fun .

BTW, I looked on-line and am still confiused. Do you see a lot or any palm trees in the Southwest? Apparently some will grow, but I don't think they are native to the area are they??

    I LOVE desert worlds!

I think the vegetation you most need for this world will be contained in the Lucky Palms world EA is releasing this week. That vegetation is what I've seen most often in the SW. I'm not sure that palm trees are *native* to the area. They just seem to be the most often used vegetation in a desert world because they look better than a lot of the trees.

I don't see where you've specified the size of this world. Is it a large map? I've gotten to where I prefer large worlds so that all community lots and SHT venues can more easily be placed. I know this is a WIP but can you give some indication of the number of lots and sizing of them?

I'm not good in the naming dept. but a couple of shots gave me the impression of an isolated town. Maybe something like Secluded Dunes?

Sorry DOLLDRMS1, I guess I wasn't too descriptive . This is built on a large map, it has about 45 residential lots, and all the rabbitholes, 5 Showtime venues, 2 by me. 3-60 x 60 Residential, as well as most other standard sizes, some from Pets.
I've used a few of the houses from Pets as well as a couple of EA community lots, but that could change depending on how ambitious I may get.

Please don't feel badly about not having the info in the orig. post. I'm quite sure it's difficult to remember everything one wants to say about a WIP. :D

Thank you for answering my questions. I appreciate it and look forward to watching your progress.

I'm glad to see creators now starting to try building those Showtime venues. When Showtime first came out, those things were intimidating. I'm hoping to end up with more of those venues, hopefully built on smaller lots. BTW, I can imagine how daunting it is to build enough to fill a whole world  I don't think you should feel badly about recycling EA lots at all. :D

    Thanks boggleman :D

Yes Dolldrms1, I must say the Showtime venues were so confusing at 1st, almost as bad as those highrises from Late Night, but not quite thakn goodness!

Wow, I didn't know Lucky Palms was coming out so soon, and just in time to provide me with the needed vegetation for a desert world, yahoo :D. I guess it paid to have this sitting in my CAW folder for just long enough for EA to know I needed desert plants (yeah sure, lol).

It's beautiful, and I think that if the palms used in Lucky palms are made available for CAW, they'd look great in it!

I've named it Roja Montanas finally, which means red mountains in Spanish, of course. Here's a few photos of some of the community lots and houses. I think I am done with the lots except for a bit of fine-tuning, so should be done in the next week or so depending on how many thunderstorms we get :(

I will do some more testing, and still have to name the lots, I usually leave that for last.

Also, I've taken out the Lucky Simoleon but currently have 3 empty 64 x 64 lots so those who have it can just plop it in :D

I may also do a version with Lucky Palms vegetation but I'm not sure if I'd upload that one to the Exchange, I could to Mediafire though. I love the Lucky Palms vegetation and think this world would look good with it.
