I just wanted to put this in for the OP, maybe you could note it for people on your first page where you list all the lots? Or remind them to check amjoie's thread before they go bulldozing/editing... People should be careful about these lots, as they have ghosts:

    0 Wanderers Way (Pirate’s Hideaway)
    7 Porthilly View (Library)
1400 New Barnacle Blvd (Crowes Nest Campground)
    438 Tidal Terrace (Goldbeard home)
428 Tidal Terrace (Maritime Shanty empty home)

If anyone hasn't already seen it, refer to amjoie's thread here for details: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/536956.page

Thank you! Good changes you've done there, I'll have to put that in my game! :D

Made a lot of progress! At the moment laying out floorplan, it's very difficult - I want to keep it as open as possible.

Cool thread AznSensei, you've made me want to play BB now :D

elanorbreton, how would I make working stages in another world. Could you tell me how that is achieved as your park pic clearly proves it is possible? I added an additional Coffee House to SS itself From the lot bin) and my sims wouldn't even use that so I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

    Any help appreciated :)

I'm not sure about them using one if there is already one in a town. But did you give them enough time to use it? Sometimes it will not be usable on the first sim-day of play. But usually by the second sim-day, a proprietor will be available for auditions (sometimes they spawn there on the first day but are not yet 'at work').

For my park, I just placed the 8x7 Showtime stage from buydebug (which spawns the proprietor when you play), added some audience squares from buydebug (with the tables and chairs on) and a few bits of lighting on the stage.

    Edited for spelling.

I definitely didn't add any audience squares....ooops! But you may be onto something with the fact that there were two venues of that type in town. I guess adding some of my own venues to BB will give me the perfect opportunity to try it out and hopefully it will work this time. I did notice when in buy debug there was a strange object on the stage (similar to the audience squares) and if I tried to insist a sim used the stage they refused and had the routing issue bubble above their heads. I deleted the entire lot in the end and returned it to residential. Shame really as my make over was quite different to EA's.

Oh! Meant to say, yes the venue was there for many, many sim days (and real days as well).

Thank you for the info. I'm off to do a bit of design work in BB and will see if I can get a stage venue to work as well now :)

Please give me as much constructive criticism as possible - obviously I won't be able to do everything you guys suggest, but I want this house to be as good as I can make it.

Also, how should I decorate the front? Does Ultra Lounge suit the house?

Well, just to suit the house structure, any modern set would work, as far as the house itself. In fact, this looks like it would fit nicely into LL, if you used the sci-fi stuff.

More to the point is how you want to decorate so that it fits into Barnacle Bay. You certainly have some latitude on that, since the island is in the process of being settled by new people, with no pirate ties to the past. But still, I think you should give a nod to the history of the island, at least on the exterior.

Perhaps, in the front lawn, you could put a cannon or anchor with some shrubs and a couple rocks, maybe a small tree. Perhaps pirate-like exterior lights. Just something to tie in with the theme.

I think, if I were you, I would go eclectic on the decor of the interior. Perhaps primarily modern, with some pirate stuff thrown in, like pirate bar stools. Perhaps even some "antique" looking things sprinkled here or there, like a gramophone stereo, some spyglasses or things from the steampunk set. It wouldn't have to be much, but would act as a focal point to tie in with the theme of the island.

LOVE your ideas, I did think that the modern route was a little too... "bland". The pirate theme and some more antique-style items will fit wonderfully!

Just to give the thread a bump, I decided to upload a residential home I made

It's not quite a 'starter', around $23,000, includes the BB mailbox and was built on one of the empty Lots on Old Fisherman's Pass:

Extra Information: If you would like to change this to an actual apartment lot, go for it! ^_^

Funny you should mention that. That's the latest thing I just uploaded last night, the New Barnacle Townhouses.

Saltbox style 3 unit Townhouses. 3 Bedroom 2 bath, 1 car garage, enclosed back yard. Fully furnished and landscaped, nicely decorated. No CC. Fully functional multiple dwelling only needs base game. Designed for Barnacle Bay @ 1705 New Barnacle Blvd. Replaces Angler's Apts.

    screenshot_original.jpg

Turns out you don't need Late Night at all to make functioning Apartments, so you get your neighbors even if you don't have that expansion.

I've also got Barnacle Fire Station No 1. it goes on the lot @ 63 Driftwood Dr. Downtown, behind City Hall.

    http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=5864783

And Crustybeard's Junkheap. 428 Tidal Terrace, replaces the Maritime Shanty.

    http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=5883568

The Stinkybeard Equestrian Center. Remove the house @ 27 Old Fisherman's Pass and put it there.

    http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=5883560

Mr Ed Memorial Horse's Course. You have to add a new lot for this one. There is an empty field with stripes just uphill of 27 Old Fisherman's Pass, and near the big Water Tower. Place a 50x25 lot there in the world editor, and put the course down there.

    http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=5883561

New Barnacle Bar. Replaces the Wanderer's Watering Hole @ 1451 New Barnacle Blvd with a Late Night bar that you can use as a Sports Bar, Local Watering Hole, or Dive Bar. Laundromat upstairs.

    http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=5932286

Vulture's Roost. This is a Vampire Bar for 15 Wanderer's Way, out past the Barnacle Boneyard. It's a Late Night bar, World Adventures tomb combo lot. Complete with Ghost Pirates.

    http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=4705460

I also moved the Dead Men Tell No Tales Cemetary to the lot across the street.

For Barnacle Neighbors I have the Flotsam & Driftwood families
Flotsams, meet the Flotsams. They're the modern pirate family. From the town of Barnacle Bay they're a page right out of history. Fred, Wilma & Pebbles Flotsam with their friends and neighbors Barney, Betty & Bamm-Bamm Driftwood.

    Just the families:

Families living in a BB style duplex:

    And The Jetsam family
Meet George Jetsam, his boy Elroy. Daughter Judy, Jane his wife. Along with Skipper and Rosie, they are the modern Steampunk Family. Perfect for Barnacle Bay, No CC, lots of store items.

And if you've read this far, I learned a trick for keeping the special Barnacle Bay mailbox when you bulldoze a lot. Go to one of the 20x30 empty lots. Add something to make it a house. I use the "Hefty Recycle Me" recycling bin, because I almost always use it. If I didn't use it, it's because I forgot. Anyway, when you go back to edit town mode, save it to the sim bin. Next time you bulldoze a lot, place the "house" there, and you've got the special mailbox all ready to go. Works for Lunar Lakes too, and I assume Hidden Springs.

I've found that the stock Landgraab consignment store that came with Ambitions fits perfectly @ 41 Rock Pool Park. Then you can move the Cross family out of their house @ 61 Driftwood Drive and put in Yenrab's Salon and Tatoo. It's a mirror image of Barney's Salon and Tatoo that I made. It fits in better on that corner.

    http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=5884706

It's not particularly Barnacly, but that's the one I'm using in my town. That corner downtown has Consignment Shop, Salon, and then Fire Station around the corner.

All these lots aren't ones I made up this week, I've been working on improving Barnacle Bay ever since it was released. I just never got around to uploading most of them to the exchange.

Looks good. I always meant to do that, but never got around to it. I did add a Late Night Subway Station to Jollyboat Plaza, and the Art Gallery, and a couple of other places around town.

And speaking of Subway Stations, if you go to the little island off the coast and put a 10x10 community lot with a Subway Station, you can travel to the island. Put a little Beach down by the cove, and you can go picnic. I haven't tried making a house and living there yet. I don't know if the lack of roads would mess things up.

1400 New Barnacle Blvd (Crowes Nest Campground)

You can have a Sim move into the lot, and Pick Up Gravestone. Then you just have them go to the Cemetery and put the gravestone into the Mausoleum. It should be OK to bulldoze the lot afterward. For the Library & Campground, just go into Edit Town and change the lot type to Residential, then move in.

It would be nice if they didn't put in *****-traps like that in the first place though.

Okay guys I am wondering whether anyone can offer me some advice, opinions and/or inspiration because I seem to be short of all of those at the moment :?

I am attempting to build a library specially for Barnacle Bay to replace to ******** awful one that comes with the world because lets face it not only is it bland and boring but there isn't much for Sims to do there. I am trying to create a very grand feel to the build with a very luxury setting within, I want this place to be somewhere Sims can come and get lost in a good book, simply socialise with others and/or a place to hone their skills. I want the building to also have a cozy feeling to it so it can be somewhere to go on a stormy night

I will apologise now for the low quality screens, I play on a Mac and the game won't take screenshots directly I need to take screenshots of the whole screen. The building has three floors, I plan to make the ground floor a place for skill building with rooms for painting, music etc. there will also be toilets on the bottom floor and two private office spaces where Sims can work away without being disturbed. The upper two floors will form the library with parts of the library spanning the two floors, I also plan to have a room dedicated to computers somewhere on the lot possibly on the ground floor. I have decorated a small section of the lot to demonstrate how I want the lot to be like so I plan on using dark woods for the flooring and walls (ignore the ceiling for the moment) and lots of rich colours in the furniture.

Now I need help with the whole design of the building at the moment it seems very dull and uninspired, what do people suggest I do to make it appear more grand. Obviously I haven't done any landscaping or anything like that I want to finish the build before moving onto the aesthetics. In the past I have seen people's creations and they have made some amazing buildings that look very regal and grand, yet I don't seem to be able to re-create that appeal. Help me I beg of you!! ^_^

    ScreenShot2012-06-10at161939.png

    ScreenShot2012-06-10at162007.png

In these pictures there are some gaps in the ceiling and it is really annoying me because it completely ruins the effect, is this a bug or something? How can I stop it from happening?

    ScreenShot2012-06-10at162046.png

    ScreenShot2012-06-10at162057.png

Sorry if this post isn't very clear I am quite tired at the moment, basically I am wanting suggestions on how I can improve this library and even examples of luxury libraries others have build as examples if you have any. I am far from a great builder but I really want to make something that I (and anyone else who would be interested) can add to their world :)

Did you use the same lot as the old library? It can mess up your game if you bulldoze your lot before removing the gravestone that EA put there.

It looks good overall, but I think you made it too big. It will be really hard to fill all that up with library stuff. You might want to go only 2 stories, and 2 sets of windows on each wing.
