Crashing to desk top in eig........Tried just about everything :(

kimjo313kimjo313 Posts: 3,865 Member
Hi,
I have been working on a world for a month. Everything was going well....then it started crashing to the desk top in eig when I would try to save. I have checked all the roads and lots and re did the routing.I have no cc or mods. I do not have a need for large adress aware.I am running the correct caw and update. I tried a previous save, I run dep, I have turned off anti virus, I have shut down caw....and still everytime I try to save it crashes. I have no problem with the world in game as I have exported it to build and have had no problems in game. I only have a problem when I go back to eig and try to put one of the builds in. It can be placed with no problem, but It crashes on saving. I have tried more than one lot and more than one build thinking it may have been an error wih the lot.Nope, no go. Im thinking its my comuter not the game. This is the windows error I get.

Anyone have an idea??

kim :(

    Hi,

I have no idea. I used Google and got this-

FXT is a file extension associated with Windows Plugin Files category. Invalid associations of FXT file may bring you various file extension errors.

Have you tried a uninstall and a new download/install? Back up your userdate files.

    Good luck. :)

    Ugh!!

I was so not wanting to do this. I always seem to screw something up with my caw files. i AM SO CLOSE TO FINISHING. yUK.

    Thank you Rflong. :D
I had tried to look it up but what I found said the appcompat file was just the delivery system to microsoft and the real error was the code prior to that. Of course with my limited computer knowledfe, running the search they had was very complicated and was for experienced gurus only. That certainly is not me!!!lol

If that's because you're running on a 64bit system, I would still suggest trying it. I have two 64bit systems and they both require laa to run eig after the world gets too big.

At least it never hurts to try

Ah, I see why LAA won't work. No since in telling the program to use 4 gigs of ram, when there's just 2 available.

I think there are a few people at MTS who run caw with 2 gigs, and windows XP.

I think what Im going to do is finsih the "decorating and landscaping" in caw, then export again and test it. I have all the rabbit holes and ambitions lots , showtime lots (exept big show)and a few residential lots completed. Really was just trying to place some more residentials when it was crashing. If it has no problem in testing I'll just add my lots in game. I really like this world and dont want to lose it. Its a small map with small builds in a Victorian theme.
We"ll see.Thank you both for helping!!!

My computer is kinda simular to yours.
I was having EIG save issues on larger worlds.
Luckily I had an empty slot to add more RAM. With LAA it's been working fine since.
Hope you get it all sorted. :D
I know how stressing it is to lose work to a failed save.

I'd be happy to place the lots in eig for you when you get everything ready. I've worked with a few other people who've had the same problem. You can just PM me at ts3cc any time if you'd like to go that route. :D

    Stella,
I was told when I had this comp built that I had room to expand up to 8 so I may at some point.

    Auntielynds,
What a sweetie you are to make such an offer! That is so kind. I am going to have to decline as there is something terribly wrong with this word. The corruption happen somewhere between the last export ( I export after I have all the lots placed) and this one. Take a look at this picture. After playing only 1 sim day I noticed this out in no camera no routing area. It looks to be on the edge of the map itself. It is a sim!! There is no land out there and it is all painted as unroutable. Having a horrible time now with not being able to enter lots that worked fine before? I think I will chalk this up to a lost cause. Its a good thing I like creating and building more than playing the actual game!

Once again thank you for your kind offer!!

Just a bit of information for you: with a 32-bit OS (I believe there was a 64-bit XP at some point, but very rare), you cannot use more than 4 gigs of RAM. You may have room to expand, but the OS will not be able to handle more than 4 gigs. If you ever want more than that, you'll need to get a 64-bit OS.

    steph,
See what I mean....I have no clue about computers. The person who built this said there was room so naturally I would think it was doable without changing other things.Oh well. Im sure along the way I will invest in something a little more 21st century. I just really hate learning a new system/computer.
Thank you for the info!! Appreciated muchly!
