Kelley hadn't seen Therese since the wedding so she went to visit one day. Dante seemed a little uncomfortable when he invited her inside.
"Therese will be out in a minute. She has actually been meaning to call you and talk to you."
Kelley couldn't imagine why Dante seemed so nervous and awkward. Then she got the shock of her life when Therese came out.

"Oh, um ... hi Mom. I've been meaning to tell you ..." her voice trailed off.
"What? How could? Why didn't you you tell us sooner that you are having a baby?" Kelley stammered. "It's a wonderful thing!"
"Well, you know, Nathaniel was getting married. I didn't want him to feel like we were trying to steal the focus away from him. Then the more we waited the harder it was to say something."
"Well, that's in the past now! Congratulations! I'm so happy for you!" Kelley hugged her daughter.
"Thanks, Mom. We're really happy about it."
"How far along are you?" Kelley asked as she ran a hand over her daughter's tummy.
"Well, I popped kind of early. So it's not as bad as you might think. I was actually afraid people would notice at the wedding. I really didn't want to interfere with Nathaniel's day."
Kelley couldn't resist listening to Therese's tummy as well. "We'll have to tell everyone else. I think they will be thrilled for you."
"Are you hungry? Let me whip up something for you. You have to keep up your strength!" Kelley seemed to have gone into full scale mothering mode.
Therese couldn't help smiling as she ran her hands over her belly. "I know, I'm eating for two now."
"I think we are both hungry!" she said when she smelled the Autumn Salad her mother was throwing together.
When it was done Kelley called them all to the meal. Therese still seemed a little preoccupied with her belly. Kelley couldn't help remembering she was the same way with all of her pregnancies.

They all sat down for the lovely meal.
Everyone else in the family was thrilled when they heard the news. Nathaniel and Erika were still living at the house because they were having a little trouble finding a place of their own. Therese came over to visit often so she could see everyone. Kelley just loved putting her hand on her tummy and feeling the baby move.
"This baby has quite a kick!" she said.
"Tell me about it!" Therese agreed.
Jason always hurried over to touch her belly as well. "I can't wait, Therese. You look so beautiful. I know you will be a wonderful mother."
"It will be very soon now," she said as she smiled at her father.
Kelley was talking to the baby on one of the visits ...
when Therese suddenly clutched at her belly.
"Whoa! I don't think that was a kick!" Then another wave of pain struck her.

Jason naturally panicked. "Oh, no! We need to call Dante! He needs to get here!"
"I don't think we can!" Therese said, clearly distressed. "He's out of town on something for work. I don't think he can be reached."
Now Nathaniel and Erika started to panic. "What are we going to do? The baby is coming!"

Luckily Kelley kept her wits about her. "I'll take Therese to the hospital. Jason, you try calling Dante and see if there is any way that he can get back here!"
Then Kelley and Therese headed off to the hospital.
Therese was upset when they got to the hospital. "I cant believe Dante is going to miss this! I know he wanted to be here so much!"
"It's okay, sweetheart. I'm sure he'll do the best he can. Right now let's just get you into the hospital."
Unfortunately the baby came very quickly after they arrived at the hospital and so Dante wasn't able to make it back in time. Soon Therese was coming out with her new baby girl in her arms.
"She's so beautiful Therese," Kelley said as she looked down at her first grandchild. "Did you and Dante have a name for her?"
"Yes, her name is Maria."
Kelley took Therese back home.

Therese was exhausted so Kelley encouraged her to go lie down. She gave her granddaughter a snuggle before putting her down in the crib.

As she was driving away she saw Dante's car go flying by and pull to a screeching halt in front of the house. She knew he would be disappointed that he had missed the birth, but he still had a healthy daughter and his wife was well, if tired. And that was the most important thing.
Yeah, I was really psyched when the message popped up that Therese and Dante were going to have a baby. She wasn't showing at the wedding though, and I couldn't even use any of the typical options like feel tummy. So I had to send someone over to visit to bring it into the story.
Nathaniel and Erika felt cramped trying to live with everyone else. They had been looking for a house with no luck so far. Then finally Nathaniel got a call from the realtor.
Jason had told him that he should take Lilo with him when he moved out. Nathaniel and Lilo had bonded since the time she was a little foal. So after some good-byes Nathaniel, Erika and Lilo arrived at their new house.

Salsa Dancer wasted no time getting to know her.
Jacob and Penny spent most of their time together. That wasn't all that different except that now they were far more romantic with one another.
They tried at first to keep it from Kelley and Jason that they were not just friends but Kelley was far too observant as usual and even Jason took notice. Jason didn't like it at all. "I will not have my son's girlfriend living in the house!" he kept saying to Kelley. She didn't like it much either but as she pointed out to Jason, Penny literally had no one else in the world and nowhere to go. "We can't throw her out on the street! And the only other option would be to force her to be a ward of the state. I won't do that either." So they both kept a sharp eye on the pair. Despite that their love continued to blossom and Jacob was already thinking ahead to when they were adults.

When the time came for Jacob's and Penny's birthdays, which were of course the same since she had always aged up when he did, the family threw a party for both of them. Just as the guests began to arrive they were interrupted by a stray cat who decided to die on the front steps.

As he blew out the candles half the people were still on the porch deciding who got to go through the door first.
Then it was time for him to age up.

Then it was time for Penny's party. She was very excited because she had never actually had a birthday party before.

Soon it was graduation day for Jacob and Penny.

Penny edged out Jacob for Valedictorian. And Jacob's friends snickered and nudged him in the ribs when she won most likely to have a big family.
It didn't bother Jacob she was Valedictorian. He was proud of how far she had come. And he graduated with high honors anyhow. He couldn't help snickering over being voted most likely to take over the world.

Jacob did too but his father got in the way of the photographer. :? So he just got a picture of catching it.

Therese and Dante's daughter, Maria, was a toddler now. Jason and Rand decided to go over one day to visit. They met Dante coming back from a walk with Maria.
Dante was happy to see them and invited them inside.
Jason was a happy grandfather. He loved Maria and had to give her a snuggle.
Maria inherited Dante's blue/gray eyes. First baby without green eyes!
Then he enjoyed playing with her.

Jason put Maria down because Rand was insisting he wanted to play with her. Maria loved hide and seek.

Jason had been talking to Dante while the kids played. When it was time to go Rand gave Maria a hug good-bye.
While they were visiting Salsa Dancer and Star got friendly.
Even though they were adults Jacob and Penny were still watched closely by Jason and Kelley. So one night Jacob invited her out on a date to go swimming.
They had a lot of fun but then Penny asked Jacob if he'd like to try out the new hot tub the town had recently put in. Jacob said it sounded like fun. When they got over to it he gave Penny a mischievous look and asked if she'd like to skinny dip in the hot tub. Penny giggled and blushed. "Don't you think someone might see us?" "It's like two in the morning, Penny. No one is around." She giggled again and agreed.
Once in the hot tub they started kissing. With no clothes on this could be dangerous. Penny couldn't help thinking. So easy to get carried away.
Then she didn't really think anymore.
And they both got very carried away.
When they came up for air they noticed it was starting to get light. "Jacob, people are going to start showing up." "We need to get out of here, Penny." Giggling, and very giddy from their tryst in the hot tub Jacob and Penny got out , pulled their clothes on and ran to the car.
Although for Jacob and Penny everything felt very different now things at home went along pretty much the same. They discovered that Baron and Salsa Dancer loved music and any time they turned on the radio they'd come over and tap their hooves to the music.
Since Nathaniel and Erika hadn't moved that far away one day Lilo came by to use the race training posts.
One morning when Penny got out of bed she suddenly felt an intense wave of nausea.
Which caused her to run for the bathroom.
She felt better and headed out to check on the horses. Star was due to have her foal any day now. But when she got to the stable she suddenly felt sick again.
Before long she had to run back to the house. Did I catch some kind of stomach virus? she wondered.
She lay down for a nap, feeling exhausted. But she woke up not too long after and had to run to the bathroom again.
Jacob had just finished a shower when she ran in. "Penny, are you all right?" he asked in concern.
"I think I have some kind of stomach bug. Don't come near ..." She couldn't finish the thought before she had to throw up again.
Despite her attempts to warn him away Jacob hugged Penny. "These things usually only last for 24 hours. Tomorrow you'll probably feel a lot better."
That night Penny dreamed about other reasons she might be throwing up.
When she woke up the dream lingered and she had to know. With Jacob's parents watching so closely there had only been that one time in the hot tub ... but that's all it took. She snuck out early to buy a pregnancy test. By the time everyone else was waking up she knew why she had been throwing up. Jacob's baby she thought as she ran her hands over her stomach, which didn't really reveal much yet. The idea thrilled her as much as it scared her. She loved Jacob and she knew she wanted to spend her life with him. She had dreamed about having babies with him ... but after they were married. What would he say now?
Penny did not have long to wait because Jacob came in not long after looking fresh and clean from a shower. "Penny, I was hoping you would like to go out to dinner tonight."
Penny figured she might as well tell him now. "Jacob, there's actually something I wanted to talk to you about."
"Sure what is it?"
"Do you remember that night we went swimming, and then, um ... went in the hot tub?"
Jacob gave her a warm smile with the light of desire and excitement sparkling in his eyes. "Of course, how could I ever forget it?" Penny felt butterflies in her stomach with the way he looked at her and she blushed. "Why?" Jacob asked. "Did you want to go back there after dinner tonight?"
"No, I mean, I wouldn't mind doing that ... but ... " She was blushing furiously now. She took a deep breath and steeled her nerve. "What I meant to say is that ... the night we went before, well, I got pregnant. That's why I've been throwing up."
Jacob's first reaction was one of shock. "What? Are you sure?"
She couldn't help a little smile as she remembered the little plus sign showing up on the pregnancy test. "Yes, I took a pregnancy test this morning."
Then Jacob felt happiness spread through him. "Really? We're going to have a baby?"
Penny nodded. Jacob quickly hugged her. "As unexpected as it is ... it's still wonderful."
Penny felt relief and happiness flood through her. "Well, we'll have to tell your parents ..." she said when they parted and she headed toward the door. They aren't going to be happy."
Jacob caught her arm and turned her back towards him. "Wait, there is one thing I want to do first."
He went down on one knee and to Penny's surprise pulled a box out of his pocket. He gave a little laugh. "I was going to do this tonight after dinner but now is as good a time as any ..."
"Penny, would you do me the honor of marrying me and becoming my wife so that we could be together forever?"
Penny hopped up and down in her excitement. "Oh, yesyesyesyesyesyes! Of course I will Jacob!!!"

Penny looked at the ring on her finger as it sparkled in the light. "It's the most beautiful ring ever, Jacob."
As soon as Jacob stood up she threw her arms around him. "Oh, Jacob. I love you so much!"
"I love you too, Penny. Always and forever."
When they parted he put a hand on her tummy. "And I can't believe how wonderful it is that we're going to have a baby."
While Penny and Jacob were discovering about their baby-to-be Star gave birth to a little colt.

Penny and Jacob knew they would have to tell his parents and that they would probably not be happy about the pregnancy. After she had showered they decided that Kelley would be the easier one to talk to first. So while Penny couldn't help admiring the little baby bump she was starting to get, Jacob went to talk to his mother.
Jacob figured the engagement would be the easier thing to start with. "Mom, I wanted to tell you something. Actually I wanted to give you some good news."
"I asked Penny to marry me, and she said yes. So, we're engaged."

"I'm not exactly surprised. It seemed like just a matter of time. But I'm happy for you."
"Well, Mom. We do actually have a surprise." Penny had been waiting just out of sight and now she joined them.
Although she still loved him dearly, Penny couldn't help thinking that Jacob had the most smug grin she had ever seen when she joined him and his mother.
"Well, you see. Jacob and I just found out ... well ..." she was wishing Jacob would jump in and help but he seemed to just be standing there looking proud of himself. "Well, Jacob and I are going to have a baby!"
Kelley was shocked. "What? When? How?? Well ... I know how."
Jacob spoke up for the first time. "We were hoping you would be happy for us, Mom. We're happy about it, even if we didn't exactly plan for it."
Kelley finally relaxed and smiled. "Well, my mother would say that babies are always a blessing. I am happy for you."

Both Penny and Jacob were relieved. "No objections from us."
Kelley put a hand over Penny's tummy. "A new grandbaby. Once the surprise wore off I really am happy for you. I can't wait to see the new baby."
As Jacob walked away he looked so ridiculously pleased with himself he should be strutting.
Meanwhile ... Jason had been watching the new colt run around.
When Comet was hungry he returned to Jason.
He was in the stable blissfully feeding Comet a bottle, unaware of the news about to descend on him, when Kelley found him.
I know, right? I was sitting there thinking 'sheesh Jacob could you look more proud of yourself for knocking up your girlfriend?' I could practically hear him thinking "look what I did!"
the new colt is gorgeous! And I can't wait to see what the new baby will look like. I wonder if it will have blue hair like Mom?
I know, I'm dying to see what the baby will look like too! I'm keeping them in the house until the baby is a toddler so it will be easier to see! :-) I mean I can see what Therese and Dante's daughter looks like, but I have to send someone over to visit to do it.
Kelley had known that Jason would be upset when he found out about Penny being pregnant but she hadn't been fully prepared for what he would say.
"They're darn right they're getting married."
"What?" Kelley asked in surprise.
"You said that at least they do know they want to get married. Darn right they are getting married. As soon as possible."
"What? You mean before the baby is born?"
"Absolutely! Isn't that what Amanda and Dakota did?"
Kelley remembered her surprise when she discovered her friend Amanda, Dante's mother was pregnant and married.
The pregnancy had been unexpected and both Amanda and Dakota had a quickie marriage to "legitimize" their baby, as Amanda had said. Kelley had thought it was a little funny that Dante's new brother was younger than his daughter.
"So you're saying you want to be sure that this baby is legitimate?"
"Yes. Call me old fashioned if you want. But I'm clearly not the only one. You know, I told you it was not a good idea for Jacob's girlfriend to be living here."
Kelley had expected this. "Yes, well you never had an alternative either. The problem is that they didn't tell us right away. By the time we can organize the wedding she'll be almost ready to give birth."
"Well if she gives birth right after the vows then so be it."
Kelley rolled her eyes but she knew there would be no arguing with Jason. His voice had that finality she had come to recognize meant he was not going to budge.
So the wedding was hastily thrown together. Jacob and Penny didn't have any real objections since they wanted to be married anyhow. Jacob had suggested eloping to Penny if she didn't want all the attention of being very pregnant at her wedding. But Penny remembered how beautiful the weddings for Therese and Dante and Nathaniel and Erika had been. Even though she had not even been human yet she had wanted the same thing for herself.
There was certainly no hiding it was a 'shot gun wedding' though.
Nathaniel had teased his brother about that when he arrived. "I'm surprised Dad isn't standing there with a real shot gun."
Jacob laughed a little. "You know, so am I. He was pretty ticked off though. He's been giving me dirty looks ever since he found out."
"Didn't you say that they were watching the two of you closer than Therese and Dante when they were dating?" Nathaniel asked. "How did you manage it anyhow?"
Jacob couldn't stop the smirk. "Well, let's just say that skinny dipping in a hot tub can be a dangerous past time."
Nathaniel doubled over in laughter brought another stern look from Jason.
Before long everyone was gathering for the ceremony. With two weddings under her belt Kelley had managed a beautiful arrangement despite the haste.

Penny was very happy too. And secretly she was glad of their baby would be legitimate as well.

When Jacob held up the ring he had a huge smile for Penny. "Take this ring as a sign of my everlasting love and fidelity to you."
As he slid the ring on her finger Penny got choked up.
Then it was her turn to take out the ring. "Take this ring as a pledge of my eternal devotion and partnership."

Even Max burst into tears as they exchanged rings. His relationship with Rand was very different but seeing a former imaginary friend who was now human and marrying the boy who had made her real was especially meaningful for him.

Everyone gathered around as they got ready to cut the cake.
Jacob turned out to be very sentimental. "Our first food as husband and wife."
Penny cut the cake and they both grabbed their slices.
As usual the family gathered for cake. Jason seemed to be in a better mood now that they were married. At least it seemed that way to Jacob.
Kelley couldn't help mentioning the baby.
Then it was time for Jacob and Penny's first dance together.

When it got a little later and the guests had left Kelly sent Rand in to get some sleep. But the two couples stayed up dancing for a little longer.
Then suddenly Penny stopped dead and clutched her belly as pain rippled through it.
"Jacob, I think the baby wants to cut in."
"Are you happy now?" Kelley yelled at Jason. "I told you something like this would happen!"
"Fine. You were right. At least it wasn't during the ceremony."
Jacob was appalled that all his parents could think about at a time like this was to argue. "This is not the time to argue over who was right! The baby is coming for crying out loud!"

"Oh, right!" Jacob ran for the car.
"Jacob, I can't move that fast. Don't leave me behind."
Jacob waited by the car. He looked a little sheepish. "Oh, right. Sorry. I guess I got a little over excited."
They arrived at the hospital without incident.
Jacob was very excited about becoming a daddy.
A few hours later, feeling tired and rumpled in what had been their wedding finery, they came out with a baby girl that they named Alexandra.

When she was settled and dozing off they put her down in the new crib that they found had been set up in their room while they were at the hospital. "My dad must have done this," Jacob said when he saw it.
Then exhausted the newlyweds collapsed into bed and curled up together to sleep.

Jason's just a little old-fashioned (but not TOOOOOO old-fashioned), nothing wrong with that.
Yeah old fashioned definitely seemed to fit him. And story progression gave me exactly those messages about Dante's mom. First that she was pregnant and then that they'd gotten married to legitimize their baby. So it fit.
Unfortunately in all the craziness with the wedding, Penny going into labor and Jacob rushing to the hospital everyone forgot Rand's birthday.
Except his best buddy, Max, that is.
So he reached his teen years alone with his imaginary friend, in his pajamas.
But he didn't mind.
(Although he might need some new clothes.)
Max was there for his birthday and that was what mattered.

Rand started to try out the instruments he convinced his parents to buy. Since he was a virtuoso he picked it up very fast and soon it was more than noise, but rather real music could be heard from what was now Rand's practice space.
Sometimes members of the family would come to listen, but mostly Max was his biggest fan.
"I wish you could play with me, Max. Maybe I'll ask Jacob how he made Penny human ..."

Penny loved being a Mommy. Even if it meant middle of the night feedings.
And she loved playing with her little girl.
But there were times when she had to hurry to get the crying baby because her mother-in-law loved snuggling with Alexandra too.
Meanwhile life on a horse breeding ranch must go on. Jason took Baron to be sold. He had a 6 in racing, but only a three in jumping. He sold for $5799. While there a lovely young mare caught Jason's eye so he brought her home.

Jacob went over to visit his brother, Nathaniel, and introduce him to Alexandra. Nathaniel was working his way up as a chef at the Little Corsican Bistro.
Jacob discovered that Nathaniel and Erika had adopted two puppies. The longer he talked to his brother, although it was never directly said, he got the impression that the puppies might be to compensate for the fact that so far there was no baby. As he was leaving he realized that the ease with which he and Penny had conceived (accidentally after all) might have been a sore spot for them. That explained why Nathaniel hadn't been over to see the baby and why he hadn't seemed thrilled when Jacob brought his new baby for a visit.
Ugh, no Internet at home because it hasn't been working. But I have been updating at Wi-Fi hot spots when I can. So if there is a lapse in between it's not because I don't want to! But I have been getting in a lot of playing. Although Sims had been messing with me :twisted: Definitely fitting for how it has been treating me!

Kelley couldn't imagine why Dante seemed so nervous and awkward. Then she got the shock of her life when Therese came out.

"What? How could? Why didn't you you tell us sooner that you are having a baby?" Kelley stammered. "It's a wonderful thing!"
"Well, you know, Nathaniel was getting married. I didn't want him to feel like we were trying to steal the focus away from him. Then the more we waited the harder it was to say something."
"Well, that's in the past now! Congratulations! I'm so happy for you!" Kelley hugged her daughter.
"Thanks, Mom. We're really happy about it."
"How far along are you?" Kelley asked as she ran a hand over her daughter's tummy.
"Well, I popped kind of early. So it's not as bad as you might think. I was actually afraid people would notice at the wedding. I really didn't want to interfere with Nathaniel's day."
Kelley couldn't resist listening to Therese's tummy as well. "We'll have to tell everyone else. I think they will be thrilled for you."
"Are you hungry? Let me whip up something for you. You have to keep up your strength!" Kelley seemed to have gone into full scale mothering mode.
Therese couldn't help smiling as she ran her hands over her belly. "I know, I'm eating for two now."
"I think we are both hungry!" she said when she smelled the Autumn Salad her mother was throwing together.
When it was done Kelley called them all to the meal. Therese still seemed a little preoccupied with her belly. Kelley couldn't help remembering she was the same way with all of her pregnancies.

They all sat down for the lovely meal.
Everyone else in the family was thrilled when they heard the news. Nathaniel and Erika were still living at the house because they were having a little trouble finding a place of their own. Therese came over to visit often so she could see everyone. Kelley just loved putting her hand on her tummy and feeling the baby move.
"This baby has quite a kick!" she said.
"Tell me about it!" Therese agreed.
Jason always hurried over to touch her belly as well. "I can't wait, Therese. You look so beautiful. I know you will be a wonderful mother."
"It will be very soon now," she said as she smiled at her father.
Kelley was talking to the baby on one of the visits ...
when Therese suddenly clutched at her belly.
"Whoa! I don't think that was a kick!" Then another wave of pain struck her.

Jason naturally panicked. "Oh, no! We need to call Dante! He needs to get here!"
"I don't think we can!" Therese said, clearly distressed. "He's out of town on something for work. I don't think he can be reached."
Now Nathaniel and Erika started to panic. "What are we going to do? The baby is coming!"

Luckily Kelley kept her wits about her. "I'll take Therese to the hospital. Jason, you try calling Dante and see if there is any way that he can get back here!"
Then Kelley and Therese headed off to the hospital.
Therese was upset when they got to the hospital. "I cant believe Dante is going to miss this! I know he wanted to be here so much!"
"It's okay, sweetheart. I'm sure he'll do the best he can. Right now let's just get you into the hospital."
Unfortunately the baby came very quickly after they arrived at the hospital and so Dante wasn't able to make it back in time. Soon Therese was coming out with her new baby girl in her arms.
"She's so beautiful Therese," Kelley said as she looked down at her first grandchild. "Did you and Dante have a name for her?"
"Yes, her name is Maria."
Kelley took Therese back home.

As she was driving away she saw Dante's car go flying by and pull to a screeching halt in front of the house. She knew he would be disappointed that he had missed the birth, but he still had a healthy daughter and his wife was well, if tired. And that was the most important thing.

Yeah, I was really psyched when the message popped up that Therese and Dante were going to have a baby. She wasn't showing at the wedding though, and I couldn't even use any of the typical options like feel tummy. So I had to send someone over to visit to bring it into the story.

Jason had told him that he should take Lilo with him when he moved out. Nathaniel and Lilo had bonded since the time she was a little foal. So after some good-byes Nathaniel, Erika and Lilo arrived at their new house.

Salsa Dancer wasted no time getting to know her.
Jacob and Penny spent most of their time together. That wasn't all that different except that now they were far more romantic with one another.
They tried at first to keep it from Kelley and Jason that they were not just friends but Kelley was far too observant as usual and even Jason took notice. Jason didn't like it at all. "I will not have my son's girlfriend living in the house!" he kept saying to Kelley. She didn't like it much either but as she pointed out to Jason, Penny literally had no one else in the world and nowhere to go. "We can't throw her out on the street! And the only other option would be to force her to be a ward of the state. I won't do that either." So they both kept a sharp eye on the pair. Despite that their love continued to blossom and Jacob was already thinking ahead to when they were adults.

It didn't bother Jacob she was Valedictorian. He was proud of how far she had come. And he graduated with high honors anyhow. He couldn't help snickering over being voted most likely to take over the world.

I'm glad Lilo is staying 'in the family'.
They had a lot of fun but then Penny asked Jacob if he'd like to try out the new hot tub the town had recently put in. Jacob said it sounded like fun. When they got over to it he gave Penny a mischievous look and asked if she'd like to skinny dip in the hot tub. Penny giggled and blushed. "Don't you think someone might see us?" "It's like two in the morning, Penny. No one is around." She giggled again and agreed.
Once in the hot tub they started kissing. With no clothes on this could be dangerous. Penny couldn't help thinking. So easy to get carried away.
Then she didn't really think anymore.
And they both got very carried away.
When they came up for air they noticed it was starting to get light. "Jacob, people are going to start showing up." "We need to get out of here, Penny." Giggling, and very giddy from their tryst in the hot tub Jacob and Penny got out , pulled their clothes on and ran to the car.

Since Nathaniel and Erika hadn't moved that far away one day Lilo came by to use the race training posts.
One morning when Penny got out of bed she suddenly felt an intense wave of nausea.
Which caused her to run for the bathroom.
She felt better and headed out to check on the horses. Star was due to have her foal any day now. But when she got to the stable she suddenly felt sick again.
Before long she had to run back to the house.
Did I catch some kind of stomach virus? she wondered.
She lay down for a nap, feeling exhausted. But she woke up not too long after and had to run to the bathroom again.
Jacob had just finished a shower when she ran in. "Penny, are you all right?" he asked in concern.
"I think I have some kind of stomach bug. Don't come near ..." She couldn't finish the thought before she had to throw up again.
Despite her attempts to warn him away Jacob hugged Penny. "These things usually only last for 24 hours. Tomorrow you'll probably feel a lot better."
That night Penny dreamed about other reasons she might be throwing up.
When she woke up the dream lingered and she had to know. With Jacob's parents watching so closely there had only been that one time in the hot tub ... but that's all it took. She snuck out early to buy a pregnancy test. By the time everyone else was waking up she knew why she had been throwing up.
Jacob's baby she thought as she ran her hands over her stomach, which didn't really reveal much yet. The idea thrilled her as much as it scared her. She loved Jacob and she knew she wanted to spend her life with him. She had dreamed about having babies with him ... but after they were married. What would he say now?

I DID manage to miss the original posts on the prom. I ran back to read them.
Oh dear, a baby! LOL. Jason's going to be upset, I imagine. Heh heh.
Penny figured she might as well tell him now. "Jacob, there's actually something I wanted to talk to you about."
"Sure what is it?"
"Do you remember that night we went swimming, and then, um ... went in the hot tub?"
Jacob gave her a warm smile with the light of desire and excitement sparkling in his eyes. "Of course, how could I ever forget it?" Penny felt butterflies in her stomach with the way he looked at her and she blushed. "Why?" Jacob asked. "Did you want to go back there after dinner tonight?"
"No, I mean, I wouldn't mind doing that ... but ... " She was blushing furiously now. She took a deep breath and steeled her nerve. "What I meant to say is that ... the night we went before, well, I got pregnant. That's why I've been throwing up."
Jacob's first reaction was one of shock. "What? Are you sure?"
She couldn't help a little smile as she remembered the little plus sign showing up on the pregnancy test. "Yes, I took a pregnancy test this morning."
Then Jacob felt happiness spread through him. "Really? We're going to have a baby?"
Penny nodded. Jacob quickly hugged her. "As unexpected as it is ... it's still wonderful."
Penny felt relief and happiness flood through her. "Well, we'll have to tell your parents ..." she said when they parted and she headed toward the door. They aren't going to be happy."
Jacob caught her arm and turned her back towards him. "Wait, there is one thing I want to do first."
He went down on one knee and to Penny's surprise pulled a box out of his pocket. He gave a little laugh. "I was going to do this tonight after dinner but now is as good a time as any ..."
"Penny, would you do me the honor of marrying me and becoming my wife so that we could be together forever?"
Penny hopped up and down in her excitement. "Oh, yesyesyesyesyesyes! Of course I will Jacob!!!"

Penny looked at the ring on her finger as it sparkled in the light. "It's the most beautiful ring ever, Jacob."
As soon as Jacob stood up she threw her arms around him. "Oh, Jacob. I love you so much!"

When they parted he put a hand on her tummy. "And I can't believe how wonderful it is that we're going to have a baby."

Penny and Jacob knew they would have to tell his parents and that they would probably not be happy about the pregnancy. After she had showered they decided that Kelley would be the easier one to talk to first. So while Penny couldn't help admiring the little baby bump she was starting to get, Jacob went to talk to his mother.
Jacob figured the engagement would be the easier thing to start with. "Mom, I wanted to tell you something. Actually I wanted to give you some good news."
"I asked Penny to marry me, and she said yes. So, we're engaged."

"I'm not exactly surprised. It seemed like just a matter of time. But I'm happy for you."
"Well, Mom. We do actually have a surprise." Penny had been waiting just out of sight and now she joined them.
Although she still loved him dearly, Penny couldn't help thinking that Jacob had the most smug grin she had ever seen when she joined him and his mother.
"Well, you see. Jacob and I just found out ... well ..." she was wishing Jacob would jump in and help but he seemed to just be standing there looking proud of himself. "Well, Jacob and I are going to have a baby!"
Kelley was shocked. "What? When? How?? Well ... I know how."
Jacob spoke up for the first time. "We were hoping you would be happy for us, Mom. We're happy about it, even if we didn't exactly plan for it."
Kelley finally relaxed and smiled. "Well, my mother would say that babies are always a blessing. I am happy for you."

Both Penny and Jacob were relieved. "No objections from us."
Kelley put a hand over Penny's tummy. "A new grandbaby. Once the surprise wore off I really am happy for you. I can't wait to see the new baby."
As Jacob walked away he looked so ridiculously pleased with himself he should be strutting.
Meanwhile ... Jason had been watching the new colt run around.
When Comet was hungry he returned to Jason.
He was in the stable blissfully feeding Comet a bottle, unaware of the news about to descend on him, when Kelley found him.

I know, right? I was sitting there thinking 'sheesh Jacob could you look more proud of yourself for knocking up your girlfriend?' I could practically hear him thinking "look what I did!"
I know, I'm dying to see what the baby will look like too! I'm keeping them in the house until the baby is a toddler so it will be easier to see! :-) I mean I can see what Therese and Dante's daughter looks like, but I have to send someone over to visit to do it.

"They're darn right they're getting married."
"What?" Kelley asked in surprise.
"You said that at least they do know they want to get married. Darn right they are getting married. As soon as possible."
"What? You mean before the baby is born?"
"Absolutely! Isn't that what Amanda and Dakota did?"
Kelley remembered her surprise when she discovered her friend Amanda, Dante's mother was pregnant and married.
The pregnancy had been unexpected and both Amanda and Dakota had a quickie marriage to "legitimize" their baby, as Amanda had said. Kelley had thought it was a little funny that Dante's new brother was younger than his daughter.
"So you're saying you want to be sure that this baby is legitimate?"
"Yes. Call me old fashioned if you want. But I'm clearly not the only one. You know, I told you it was not a good idea for Jacob's girlfriend to be living here."
Kelley had expected this. "Yes, well you never had an alternative either. The problem is that they didn't tell us right away. By the time we can organize the wedding she'll be almost ready to give birth."
"Well if she gives birth right after the vows then so be it."
Kelley rolled her eyes but she knew there would be no arguing with Jason. His voice had that finality she had come to recognize meant he was not going to budge.
So the wedding was hastily thrown together. Jacob and Penny didn't have any real objections since they wanted to be married anyhow. Jacob had suggested eloping to Penny if she didn't want all the attention of being very pregnant at her wedding. But Penny remembered how beautiful the weddings for Therese and Dante and Nathaniel and Erika had been. Even though she had not even been human yet she had wanted the same thing for herself.
There was certainly no hiding it was a 'shot gun wedding' though.
Nathaniel had teased his brother about that when he arrived. "I'm surprised Dad isn't standing there with a real shot gun."
Jacob laughed a little. "You know, so am I. He was pretty ticked off though. He's been giving me dirty looks ever since he found out."
"Didn't you say that they were watching the two of you closer than Therese and Dante when they were dating?" Nathaniel asked. "How did you manage it anyhow?"
Jacob couldn't stop the smirk. "Well, let's just say that skinny dipping in a hot tub can be a dangerous past time."
Nathaniel doubled over in laughter brought another stern look from Jason.
Before long everyone was gathering for the ceremony. With two weddings under her belt Kelley had managed a beautiful arrangement despite the haste.

Penny was very happy too. And secretly she was glad of their baby would be legitimate as well.

When Jacob held up the ring he had a huge smile for Penny. "Take this ring as a sign of my everlasting love and fidelity to you."
As he slid the ring on her finger Penny got choked up.
Then it was her turn to take out the ring. "Take this ring as a pledge of my eternal devotion and partnership."

Even Max burst into tears as they exchanged rings. His relationship with Rand was very different but seeing a former imaginary friend who was now human and marrying the boy who had made her real was especially meaningful for him.

Everyone gathered around as they got ready to cut the cake.
Jacob turned out to be very sentimental. "Our first food as husband and wife."
Penny cut the cake and they both grabbed their slices.
As usual the family gathered for cake. Jason seemed to be in a better mood now that they were married. At least it seemed that way to Jacob.
Kelley couldn't help mentioning the baby.
Then it was time for Jacob and Penny's first dance together.

When it got a little later and the guests had left Kelly sent Rand in to get some sleep. But the two couples stayed up dancing for a little longer.
Then suddenly Penny stopped dead and clutched her belly as pain rippled through it.
"Jacob, I think the baby wants to cut in."
"Are you happy now?" Kelley yelled at Jason. "I told you something like this would happen!"
"Fine. You were right. At least it wasn't during the ceremony."
Jacob was appalled that all his parents could think about at a time like this was to argue. "This is not the time to argue over who was right! The baby is coming for crying out loud!"

Jacob waited by the car. He looked a little sheepish. "Oh, right. Sorry. I guess I got a little over excited."
They arrived at the hospital without incident.
Jacob was very excited about becoming a daddy.
A few hours later, feeling tired and rumpled in what had been their wedding finery, they came out with a baby girl that they named Alexandra.

When she was settled and dozing off they put her down in the new crib that they found had been set up in their room while they were at the hospital. "My dad must have done this," Jacob said when he saw it.
Then exhausted the newlyweds collapsed into bed and curled up together to sleep.

Jason's just a little old-fashioned (but not TOOOOOO old-fashioned), nothing wrong with that.
Yeah old fashioned definitely seemed to fit him. And story progression gave me exactly those messages about Dante's mom. First that she was pregnant and then that they'd gotten married to legitimize their baby. So it fit.

So he reached his teen years alone with his imaginary friend, in his pajamas.
But he didn't mind.
(Although he might need some new clothes.)
Max was there for his birthday and that was what mattered.

Rand started to try out the instruments he convinced his parents to buy. Since he was a virtuoso he picked it up very fast and soon it was more than noise, but rather real music could be heard from what was now Rand's practice space.
Sometimes members of the family would come to listen, but mostly Max was his biggest fan.

Penny loved being a Mommy. Even if it meant middle of the night feedings.
And she loved playing with her little girl.
But there were times when she had to hurry to get the crying baby because her mother-in-law loved snuggling with Alexandra too.
Meanwhile life on a horse breeding ranch must go on. Jason took Baron to be sold. He had a 6 in racing, but only a three in jumping. He sold for $5799. While there a lovely young mare caught Jason's eye so he brought her home.

Jacob went over to visit his brother, Nathaniel, and introduce him to Alexandra. Nathaniel was working his way up as a chef at the Little Corsican Bistro.
Jacob discovered that Nathaniel and Erika had adopted two puppies. The longer he talked to his brother, although it was never directly said, he got the impression that the puppies might be to compensate for the fact that so far there was no baby. As he was leaving he realized that the ease with which he and Penny had conceived (accidentally after all) might have been a sore spot for them. That explained why Nathaniel hadn't been over to see the baby and why he hadn't seemed thrilled when Jacob brought his new baby for a visit.
