You can add me to the list of players with this problem.
- OS your on Windows Vista Home Premium, service pack 2
- Are you using Origin ? Yes, version 8.5
- Do you have DVDs or Download Versions ? Both, currently using DD for Pets EP but all others are a mixture of dvd and DD versions
- Is your Origin-ID/Email identical with the EA one Yes
- Whatever comes to mind. I updated last night using the super patch link because i kept getting the invalid file error when updating through the launcher. Right after updaing i went into my game and it showed my correct name when i logged in. Today when i logged in it showed the NoXroadname name.
If you remove the folder now, is it still being re-created ?
Just came out of game. I have not checked if it repopulates, however, it seems that my 190... folder is the last to be updated at 5:04pm EST (the time I logged out) and the -52811 folder hasn't since I first started working on it at 2:30pm EST. If I delete, it probably won't repopulate. Let me check right quick...
First off, thank you ALL for sharing in this thread, or I would be having a very unhappy Birthday Weekend. Omg.
So. I am going to detail (spammily, sorry) my experience, because EA does have to fix this, and I worked IT long enough to know that this seems entirely reproduce-able.
* I was playing my game, minding my own business approx 2 hours ago. No Mods, No CC. Fully patched.
All was fine, however I was experiencing sporadic lag that was not in the game last night and freezing. (I am preparing to try a challenge and thus cannot use Overwatch which I have grown attached to for saving my game in the last 2 weeks from crashing and freezing, so it troubled me to find that it was freezing.) I took a test copy and added Overwatch and ErrorTrap back in to see if I could determine the causes of these freezes/lag spikes. Now I suspect it is 100% tied to whatever was going on with Origin in the background. Regardless, at some point the lag cleared up. I figured I'd go and re-remove the Mods and see if things were ok now.
* Now I cannot log back into the game and get NoXroadsname. I know this has nothing to do with me hopping in and out to try the mods, because I was quitting in and out of game all morning for other reasons (store shopping, content, etc).
I had seen someone mention NoXroadsname glitch on patch day, so after 3 attempts and 3 fails to log in, a failed password challenge followed by logging in as NoXroadsname, logging out and logging in 2 more times as NoXroadsname, I came to the forums.
Even though I knew it was a possible bug the first thing I did was check the security of my forum account, I was still logged in. I checked the store > my account > purchase history where I knew I would be prompted for a password to make sure I was not fat fingering my password and that it was still valid. It is.
Then I went to Crinrict's 1.31 bug thread and then here.
FWIW, I had patched to 1.31 letter for letter following the guide in Crinrict's thread. So I knew it was not anything I had done. Additionally I have been playing non-stop since patch without issue.
* After skimming enough of this post I thought "Ok I had patched Origin pre-1.31..." I saw the SimVIP post re: Origin and opened Origin to see if I could answer myself some of the questions posed re: Origin and was prompted for another patch.
I had already previously patched Origin pre 1.31, had attempted to validate my version of Origin afterwards because the patch DID seem to hang and not complete at the end, and so I am not certain whether this is a new patch or the original one. However, when I tried to determine if I was up to date the other day, I was seeing new content in Origin and their patch page did seem to indicate I was up to date comparing my version number with what their latest patch information online was (back last year sometime). So this leaves me confused. Two Origin updates?
In any case, I figure this is what broke my ability to log in to Sims 3 from within the game client. Yay. (sarcasm) Again, I stress I have had no issues with login until this afternoon.
* So after updating Origin, I closed Origin (I prefer to open it only when I buy or download something), relaunched Sims3, login failed again. So I closed Sims3, and read more on the forums.
* I did indeed find the folder named -58* in EA/The Sims 3/Downloads along with a second numbered folder. I deleted it. This alone didn't work. I closed the game again.
* I RE-deleted the -58* extra folder. I moved my other numbered folder to my Sims3 storage/backup folder area for the moment. I ran Dashboard, deleted my Sims3 cache files. I ran Dashboard scan on my Sims3 game folder, made sure there was no bad content. (None.) Still saw NoXroadsname.
* Read more. I manually through Firefox deleted Internet history (files/cache/cookies). However, I have recently run Safari and Internet Explorer (at the prompting of EA during a live chat support call regarding the store and caching issue therein.) So I figured, I don't know where these files are being cached if they are. So ... maybe I should go for more. So I download and ran CCleaner as well.
I relaunched Origin to make sure I was not having login issues there. I launched Sims 3 and this time, it did NOT auto-attempt to log me in.
Of note, I think this was the first and only time that the game client did not attempt to auto-log me in upon launch of the game. It launched the client and sat there with an empty login box for me to either log in or not. (I can't recall if it tried to auto-log me in after the failed attempt to log in when I left my proper numbered directory with credentials outside the downloads folder.)
I entered my password and this time it worked.
It appears that I have the Origin client still running in the tray. So... ok I quit out of the Origin client, as I said I don't want that to be a requirement to run the game. Just re-launched the game. Got a prompt that my password was invalid (it did prepopulate my login name). I waited, it errored out correctly and I was able to enter my password and successfully log in.
So out of all the troubleshooting that I did linearly, since I didn't read all 8 pages and even if I had I would not have tried all the things mentioned in here at once... the key seems to have been running CCleaner. I do not know what cache files it cleaned or where, they were obviously not game cache files but computer cache files of some type.
Which doesn't make me thrilled to imagine that my login credentials are stored somewhere like that hrm. Anyway.
Definitely something EA needs to fix. A third party shareware tool shouldn't have to be downloaded and run because of a surprise Origin update on a Sunday afternoon.
Thanks again to all of you for your troubleshooting and providing me with the information I needed to step through this and solve my own problems. This would have driven me absolutely insane.
To answer some of the technical questions posed throughout:
Windows 7 fully updated
Sims 3 fully updated, all expansions, all stuff packs, no CC (just store), no mods
Origin updated as far as I know, again and again, same login etc
I finally got it to work. I followed the instruction in crinrict's blog with the exception of using CCleaner. I cleared my cookies, browsing history and temporary internet files in Internet Explorer by going under tools/internet options. Then i logged out of everything (Origin, Website and Launcher) and logged back into everything. When i started the game it automatically logged me in correctly.
The only problem is, if i log in my e-mail/password using the new in game login on the main menu, it will tell me my username or password is invalid. I have to first log out and then log back in on the Launcher and then when i start the game it will automatically log me in, but if i log out and try logging back in on the main menu it won't work.
P.S. - Is it safe to permanenly delete the 52811 file that i moved out of my downloads and onto my desktop?
Hey guys. I just stumbled upon this thread. I thought someone had hacked into my account or something because on the first two days my game was working great. I was able to log into my account with my own username- through my game. I could see the achievement badges were blank and I was able to message and access my page like normal.
Two things happened after. I recieved the update and then Origin also updated to a Beta version.
I had not played the game since and today when I logged in I got this NoXroadsName.
I've already changed my password on Origin and it automatically changed it on the launcher and forum so they have to be linked because I was unable to log in uless I used the new password I change in Origin.
I have Win Vista 64 serv.pack 2 as well but it is capable of handling the new system as I mentioned above. It has to be a mess up in the update (what else is new) or the new Origin Beta version.
I'm sure Crin is on to something an I already removed that number and am going in to try it now. Ill let you all know what I find on my end.
I don't know what we'd do without you Crinrict!
EDIT: Ok YES its being recreated! I went in and the NoXr... was there again so I quit and looked and the number had recreated!
I too am having this noxroadsname problem. Everything worked great yesterday but now it won't let me login as myself. I have tried some of the suggestions mentioned here and none of it worked.
Did anyone who removed their game folders from the documents, and allow the game to regenerate new files with the update/patch notice that some of the dates changed in the (original game that you separated files)?
I renamed my game file 'safensound' before I updated and when I went to put my key files back in the newly generated game I noticed that some of my 'safensound' files had current dates on them. I thought it was odd as I had not even played that day yet because of the patch when I opened the launcher. I just closed it and continued with the update procedure that I do according to JenieUSA.
I just thought it was very strange that the od folders and new folders (some) had the same current date when they should have been "safensound."
I was just wondering if anyone had that phenomenon happen to them
Where do you have those safensound files ? Did you just rename theSims folder and left it in the EA sub-folder or moved them somewhere else ?
Did you delete your browsers cache and cookies ? I think that's what you need to do and then delete the 58.. folder. It will recreate if the game thinks your still NoXroadsname
I had this problem, but changing my password seemed to fix it yesterday. However, it started up again, so I changed my password again, and again, I'm able to log in as myself. I really hope I don't have to change my password here every time I want to play logged in.
Edit: For further information, I do not play using the launcher because none of my store content shows up when I do so. However, the problem persisted even when I used the launcher. So far, changing my password is the only thing that works for me.
The folder I deleted hasn't been recreated, but I've noticed while playing, that my profile doesn't update. It'll be up to date when I first log in, but that's it for the game play.
I moved my documents/electronic arts/the sims 3 folder to my desktop and renamed it 'safensound'
I then let the game regenerate newfolders when I allowed it to patch.
When I opened my 'safensound' to move key folders back into documents/electronic arts/the sims 3 folder I noticed some of the folders had current dates on them and I thought at the time it was strange because I had never seen that happen before.
I wonder If it was because I opened the two folders side by side and accidently would exit out and re-open them quickly instead of hitting backarrow and somehow the computer changed them since the folders had the same names in both documents. I don't know. Just wondering if anyone else experienced anything like it.
As far as the browser Cache and Cookies. Do you mean in explorer? I deleted everything there.
When I deleted the number it re-generated. Do you mean you have figured out a way to Keep it from re-generating? Let me know as it seems I'm a bit hard headed because I'm trying to keep up. :XD:
The folder I deleted hasn't been recreated, but I've noticed while playing, that my profile doesn't update. It'll be up to date when I first log in, but that's it for the game play.
^^ this.
I'm not seeing any updates in game from friends who *are* posting, and furthermore, I am seeing complaints on my "wall" that they are not seeing chats posted from within the game client make it successfully to their walls or anyone else either.
The first day/two days of 1.31 I was seeing in game messaging and updates just fine, spammy as it was to have 100 llama boxes to click through. And all last night it was dead quiet.
I strongly suspect that whatever happened with their Origin update broke their cross domain single sign on. That's why we were / are having issues with the NoXroadsname login, sounds like some fundamental bridge is not working.
So while it says I am authenticated and in game, I don't know that it is actually *working* as it is supposed to.
- Are you using Origin ? - not logged in to origin, I have tried being all logged in and not logged in to anything except the game.
- Do you have DVDs or Download Versions ? - All dvd
- Is your Origin-ID/Email identical with the EA one both email and sign in are identical
- Whatever comes to mind. - I have tried using Ccleaner as was suggested, it did help for 1 evening and the next morning but it reverted back to calling me NoXroadsname. I have run all the diagnostics on my PC. I am running an core I7 , 64 bit, 4 gb of memory.
Removed the 58 folder and it repopulated. I had a second folder 4825xxxxxxxx. I just now moved it to desk top.
I went into IE, which I never use. I use Firefox. I deleted history, etc.
I am not running Origin. I usually turn it off after checking it for updates. I am updated with Origin, twice.
The patch update went in smoothly.
Emails the same.
Using DVD's always.
I ran PC Optimize which cleans out broken paths and much more.
I am running Windows 7, with 3g ram, an NVIDIA graphics card which is now considered too weak since Generations. However, my game plays although slowly and with reduced graphics settings.
In my downloads folder within EA/Sims3/Downloads, I have files not within a folder. My email address file, (BIN file),
and msi.BIN. These have been there for quite some time.
My game ran smoothly with the correct log in at first. On the second time of logging in, (next day), I was notified I needed to update Origin, although I had done so BEFORE patching. I agreed to that.
After that I got the NoXroads log in. As I have played with that log in I noted various things not working correctly. I'm playing a challenge which involves making money and the money kept changing, sometimes higher and sometimes lower than it should be. Sometimes disappearing entirely. Opportunities not working. LTW changed, but that could have been a slip of my finger when clicking to choose the wish.
I just moved the 48 downloads folder to my desktop and am going to try logging in.
THAT WORKED! It does not appear to be the 58 folder that is the problem but perhaps the other folder with whatever number shows up. This folder did not repopulate.
EDIT: Just checked again. BOTH files are back in the download folder. However, at the moment I'm signed in correctly so counting small blessings.
Someone alerted me that CCCleaner basically removes COOKIES.
So...I went into Internet Options and used the settings to tell the built-in browser cleaner there (on the General tab) to remove everything EXCEPT my saved passwords, ran the cleaner, and went back to the game and hit the log-in button.
YUP! That did the trick right off the bat. Evidently when the patch is installed, it writes in a cookie from the download, that crosses over with your own EA log-in somehow.
Clean your browser files, and you will be able to log-in in the game.
For myself, I logged right back out again. I DON'T want the social function in my game. But I'm happy that it works in case I ever DO want to use it at any given time.
I don't know for certain my fix is permanent. I went into IE and cleaned out my history and everything else I could find that was safe. Didn't seem to do much. Deleted the two number files. They repopulated. I went back in to my game and et voila! It worked. I've been in and out of it off and on all day, (many freezes), and each time my proper icon, name, etc. is there. We'll see what tomorrow brings. I do believe those two number files somehow got corrupted and by removing them and allowing them to regenerate it fixed the problem.
I did all of the cleaning of browser history, deleting cookies and deleting the 58 file from the downloads folder. I even did a full system scan on my computer and cleaned my computer registry. None of that worked.
However, the thing that did work was I played the game without logging in. BUT, once I got into the game I logged in and that worked.
thank you for all your help..after running the cleaner the problem was reloved with the xnoroadsname. Now i just need help figuring the right patch to install to fix my no mosaid mod update..
The issue I'm having with those simport files (number named in my downloads folder) is that one day I had one folder & everything was fine, then the next day I had two of those folders & each folder had its own Challengedata.packet file & only the first original folder has PassportData.package. I also noticed that when I try to go into CAS now via my dresser, my game stalls in the loading screen. I'm getting ready to uninstall & re-install (for the millionth time, since buying the base game, so I can see if that will fix it. I also can't let my Launcher update with the store update because it freezes & quits responding. I'm not really sure if I should keep both folders, merge both folders or just keep one folder or toss both folders to make my game act right again... Not even sure if all my issues are connected.. I just know that it's not due to a low rated computer... Please please EA, figure out how to fix these issues so we can stop having to uninstall & re-install all the time.. Thanks.
Apparently the folder (and both package files) are legitimate (I have them also). Check out the Mod The Sims link below, and scroll down to the Downloads header for information.

I used CCleaner previously to fix the NoXroadsname and have had no problems logging in with my correct username since.

I told her to:
1) Logout & login to the launcher.
2) Update Origin. Logout & login to Origin.
3) Open up Internet Explorer and clear cache, web history & cookies.
Then when she opened up the game, she was able to login as herself.

However, the thing that did work was I played the game without logging in. BUT, once I got into the game I logged in and that worked.
