Memory Leak in Pets?

Is there a memory leak in Pets?
In order to play the game without it constantly freezing I have to disconnect from the net, and close down every background program running.
Normally I can play this game with everything running in the background and watch a movie at the same time as chat to someone.
........but if I don't it is impossible to play

you could have a virus, that happened to me a while ago on my comp i got some malware and my sims wouldn't work properly but i got rid and it worked again
Strangely enough I ran full scans earlier today before playing, so that's not a problem
