I just had a question about my game play that I was wondering if it was related to my graphics card.

    I have a 21.5 " iMac mid-2011
Processor: 2.7 Hz Intel Core I5
    Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB
    Mac OX! Lion 10.7.2

I run Sims3 on Windows 7 using VMWare.

When I installed Sims 3 it indicated that it didn't recognize my graphics card but it would set it at the highest setting and if I noticed game performance issues I would need to change those setting.

Basically, my problem is this: Sometime when I put a sim family into a house and try to play, either the house is almost all black (but I can see the icons for my sims) and when I rotate or scroll around it looks like there is something large in the way as I see large jagged green pieces but can't see my house. I can usually see the front of the house okay but not when I rotate or move into the house or to the side. Other times I can see most of the house with the sims in it but when I move to the far right I get all black or big jagged pieces of green. Other times, when I move my sims into a house it works like normal. I just reinstalled everything again a few days ago so I believe that I have the latest patches.

Just wondering if this is a graphics card issue? I did try to go in and lower the settings but that didn't help.

Thanks for any help as I am honestly not that computer savvy here and maybe it is something obvious.

The biggest problem with running TS3 in Windows in a virtual machine like Parallels or VMware is graphics. You'd be better off installing Windows in Boot Camp as Apple have written the Windows drivers for the Apple hardware.

Whilst the virtual machines are great, you are dependent on them to provide graphics updates.

Would anybody know why my launcher is locking up when trying to install store items? I keep getting the beach ball of death, and its not going away.

    Any ideas what to do?

Edit: It seems like it's installing now, never mind.

Hi there BlueBell! First of all, thank you for all the work you do to help all of us Mac folk. I think it would be impossible to enjoy the game without your guidance!

    Thanks for your help!

One more thing I do have so many store items. If I copy my downloads folder and put on desktop can I simply put that file back in so I don't have to painstakingly download each item through the launcher?

Also when I re-install is this still the case?

Launcher not loading - This appears to be affecting Snow Leopard users who have patched to 1.25. A possible workaround would be to do a completely clean uninstall and reinstall of the game. Install the base game and run the first patch prompt. This will take you to 1.22. When it prompts for a second patch do not patch. Instead, go to this link (thank you w3by for supplying the links) and download the manual patch to take you to 1.24. As Snapdragon helpfully pointed out, the 1.25 patch only appeared to be for Lion users who have the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M and NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics cards, therefore possibly causing issues for Snow Leopard users who didn't need the patch.

I'm not sure that manual patch is still available? Is it necessary for me to do this?

YES! YES! I have noticed this too with my DVD drive. It makes me annoyed that EA SAID they want to fix bugs, but they never do.... (cough blog cough blog) I just laughed at that whole entire blog by the guru, especially the bug part..

Is there any way of fixing this, since I don't even know where it came from? It's probably part of the stupid "Disk Authorization Failure" EA never decided to fix.

After reading more on the forums, the latest game patch for base game is 1.29.55 and this is the only patch I will need when I re-install, correct? And it is possible that my launcher will direct me to this update after I have installed the base game--correct?

    Hi kquinn!

I think I need a new DVD slot so that may be my problem. It is amazing given the sheer numbers of people that get the Disc Authorization error and EA has not fixed that. I am hoping my uninstall and re-install helps my game run smoother. I am so tired of building with lags every time I enter CAS.

The world of computer innards baffles me. I have no idea what anything means so sorry for my ignorance to all of this and sorry if the answer to my issue has already been posted.
I have a mac book pro. I bought it in december. I have Sims3, S3 Pets and S3 Generations. I have a few custom content items and a few store items. Ever since I updated my game with the live status update feature my game has been soooo slow. It takes me in real life time an hour to get through a morning routine in Sim time. Its driving me nuts! I updated my game today hoping that it would solve my issue but it hasn't. My specs for my mac are:

    13 in. Late 2011.
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DD
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50)

I have two cd albums on my iTunes and hardly any word docs or pictures on my mac.

thank you so much for reading this and i look forward to any wisdom or advice to help me with my problem.

After about an hour of gameplay, my mac cursor comes up and the game freezes and I have to restart the whole computer? Is this happening to anyone else?

    Specs:
    iMac 27" mid 2011
    2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
    4 GB 1333 MHzDDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3

I called EA and they've tried everything. I've also tried calling Apple but nothing happens. EA, please make an update soon!

I just recently purchase a Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 and install TS3 without a problem. The games all play and the graphics are fine, no freezing. My problem is, I can't log into the exchange or the sims store. I can't log into the sims launcher. It reads Oops! We are not able to process your request, or Be Right Back. If anyone know what the problem is, please e mail me at milks_m5@yahoo.com. Thanxxxx..

I bought the Sims 3 + Pets pack only a week ago, really excited to be able to play it on my mac. Under the assumption that it would run great on it. My game with run for five or so minutes then crash, every time, without fail.

    My mac specs:

    MacBook Pro
    13-inch, Late 2011
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Software: OS X 10.8

I would like to know how I can possibly fix this, without buying a new computer.

I think I have all of these issues too. It crashes after 5 minutes of gameplay, it freezes a couple of times before crashing, it freezes in a way that I have to restart my computer, in CAS, if I'm making a big family, it'll definitely crash after the 4th sim, so I have to save every single sim to the bin, witch sucks big time... Sometimes my sims get a red face, or black, graphic issues... Seriously, I can't take this anymore! Ok, I do have all the EPs, a couple of store content, 2 mods, so, I know it gets worst because of that, but for the past week it's been impossible to play! I was thinking that something was wrong with my computer, but reading this thread I realize that the problem is with the game. The worst thing is that we can't do anything about it except wait for EA to fix this problem, and that can take forever! Why don't they care about Mac users?!?
I really wish I could be able to play Seasons :(

    27" iMac mid 2010
Processor: 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3
    Memory: 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5670 512MB
    Software: Lion 10.7.4

Im having a completely different issue. Before lion was release, my game launcher opened and the game run smoothly. Then, when I got lion, the launcher didnt open at all. Basically, I cant get a patch either because every time I try to open the game it says " An unknown error has occurred." I rebought the sims uninstalled then I still had the same problem. bhvfksgbkjdsghlsjdfksd.

I no longer rely on EA's built-in updater. Try this: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=409829

Frankly, on the whole, I spend more time analyzing crashes and troubleshooting than playing the game itself. I think I've reached my patience trying to get the Sims 3 running on my mac or on my Windows VPM. Done, Finished, Thanks EA.  :-(

I'm going to start by saying I really know nothing about computers, some of these posts make my head spin... But if I can find answers that my husband understands there may be a glimmer of hope! :?:

    Mac mini
Processor 2.3 GHz intel core i5
    Memory 2GB MHz DDR3
Graphics intel HD Graphics 3000 288 MB
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

    Have tried re-installing many times.

My game won't even start anymore!! It says there is an update,
but regardless of whether I click yes to download and instal or Later?

    "Sims 3 has unexpectedly quit"

    - Having major game withdrawals
and not sure what to do anymore...
Am extra frustrated because I bought
Seasons and haven't gotten to play it once!

We purchased a special "official" Mac disk drive, but I can't even get to the launch window. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated... I'm not really sure where to turn. I hope this forum is a good next step even if I don't follow half of what is being said... Help??

Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB
    Software OS X 10.8.2 (12C3006)

I use to be able to play sims 3 perfectly on my Mac. How do we go about finding a solution? This honestly sucks! How do I contact EA?

My game is also freezing as soon as game play starts (even after update).

    Macbook Pro
    13 inch, Mid 2009
Processor: 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    Software: Mac OS X Lion 10.7 (11A511)

You need more RAM...if 2 GB of RAM all you have then you must expereience a lot of lag when you play. I recommend you get 8 GB of RAM from the Crucial website. Apple when overcharged you.

Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory: 20 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Mac OS X Version 10.7.5
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 VRAM

My game runs fine and all, until I go to Create-A-Sim mode. Then it will either crash or get the Error Code 12 if it doesn't crash after I leave CAS mode, provided that I played the game for over 25 minutes.
