This is a question for the judges, and I don't know if I'm allowed to ask, but I'm going to anyway... Is it better to create a space with real life realism or Sim playability? As it is, there are a lot of spa elements that don't exist in-game (not even as store items) and I would like to include them. If I do, then they would be makeshift and not really useable in game. If I don't use them, I could use an alternative that sims could use, but is not as realistic... I'm just curious...
GJ Redkitty! Also Congrats Suepea, ArikaB and Green-owl77!

I'm not a judge, but since your entry is judged purely on media alone, I would say you can definitely create things that don't actually work as intended in game. If you intend on uploading the lot to the exchange, I would just make sure the routing works. As long as things like stairs, toilets, and the most important aspects of your build are accessible (I assume you've got a spa, so make sure they can at least get in and out,) you should be fine.

Thanks! That's super helpful! I was leaning towards realism-it's more attractive anyway. I just wasn't sure if there was some stipulation or rule that all items need to be accessible or useable by sims (not including decorative items).
I actually have a question for the judges myself. I was doing some research on spas, and it occurred to me that the brief could be referring to either a day spa or a spa retreat. Would either of those be acceptable?

I would say either one. Of course, I am not a judge either.
OPTIONAL CHALLENGE: I decided not to change it to a story but to just explain real quick the pictures. When I finished my story with Venus and Victor in the previous challenge they just moved in together. This time Venus gets her spa and they get married at the spa. They have twins a boy and girl. And I show them opening up the spa and enjoying it during her pregnancy and then the kids enjoy it when they are older as well. If they are for some reason out of order of the way I described I apologize. I had things come up that prevented me to spend extra time on the optional challenge. http://s1295.photobucket.com/user/Suzieq_420/library/Venus Spa/Venus Spa Optional?sort=9&page=1

I agree, I think if the judges wanted a specific one, it would have been in the required list. It's not, so I believe it's up to individual interpretation.

Yeah I thought as much too, but figured I should ask. Anyway, how is everyone's build going? I think I've finally found a good spot for mine. (Only week into it )
saint_gambi - Mine is almost done- but been struggling a little with the finishing touches- which basically means I am going to be a last minute entry.
oXseashellXo - In a challenge some while back I created a sauna with effects, etc (this was before the sauna was added in the store) This was totally acceptable to the judges then. Also as other people have said you are judged on your media. My build this time around will include space for nail treatments which are not in the store/game either. Good luck with your build!
Those wondering if it must be working or not.
No, in cases of sauna's massages tables, nail treatments thingies. Don't have to be 'working' we do check for routing problems. So Sims need to be able to go to the bathroom and stuff like that.
Especially in this case, where you want to create a spa, you get more 'optical' solutions than working once.
But do try to get things working where you can
oh and spa retreat or day spa are both acceptable to me
(PS: if other judges disagree with me, let me know )

My structure is done, my rooms set, now I have to decorate and landscape but I'm headed to Florida and won't be home until late Sunday, I don't know if I will have time to finish once I get home.

I would think that Florida would be more fun than Sims, but I could be wrong. Enjoy!
@saint_gambi: Don't worry, you'll have plenty of time! You need to have the right location to enjoy your work
My spa is done! I had sooo much fun with this one! It's more my style and less zen though, but I love it and that's what matters. I don't plan on uploading it to the Exchange until I make adjustments and can classify it as a Resort. The required resort towers just don't go with the challenge. All that's left is pictures!
Thanks a bunch! That was a tough little build! I had fun playing around with the optional challenge as well! I love having something to do different in the game with these challenges. Congrats craigst39 for 2nd

CREDIT TO SIMMERS FOR CUSTOM CONTENT USED: I used store bought EA objects along with my expansion pack addons. Everything CC is from TSR.com. First time using CC in game due to my lack of in game “Spa” like objects. Everything I used I mentioned below most came from sets. This was a fun build. Next time I might try Intermediate because now I have entered in the Big house build, the small house build and now the business side of it as a beginner!
