MaryKup - Rec'd! Your architecture is nice. So is your landscape although I would have liked to see more terrain paint. I really like that orange wall in the living room. I love how you used 1/2 wall and columns to separate the kitchen and dinning room. I like the wall in the bedroom with the 2 single beds; are the curtains in pic 44 CAS'd different colors? I really like how you did the wall art! It seemed like most people didn't save money for any but you found a unique way to add it in! :) I like the office with the piece of gym equipment. I like how you CAS'd the chairs in the master bedroom. I like the zen rock garden in the backyard. Your build is really great!

@arikaB your backyard is stunning! It totally puts mine to shame

I wouldn't say that, but thank you for the compliment. :) Your use of the fountain in a pond instead of a pool was very creative - it looked totally natural and very zen! The exterior of your house is so picturesque with those dormers. I also loved the tile you used in the upstairs bathroom, as well as the way you put in realistic support walls (across from the base of your stairs) on the first floor. It was a thoughtful build, and you did a great job!

    Optional:

We want to see pictures of the grand opening, with Venus and David in attendance of course.

Hmmm, now I'm curious!! Is Venus moonlighting with David??

lol I'm fairly sure you meant Victor - but I wanna make sure!!

d'oh! Yep, you were right, I meant to put Victor! Have corrected it ;)

That is FANTASTIC news! I was already wondering how I was going to get all the things I want to into this build with that original $100K. Those high-end items add up fast! Thank you!

@ArikaB1 - OMG!! I love your home for David. Especially the backyard. I am curious how you made the 'canopy' over the hot tub or is it an actual item? I really like how you showed David and brought in Xantha (especially the ring photo!!). Very nicely done.

Thanks so much for the kind review. I was going for one of those pass through windows some folks had in their houses back in the day :). No the curtains are all the same. I make one set the way I like and then copy them where ever I want them to be. It just maybe the angle of the shot. I must have played with the sand over and over to get the circles to form.

Gaaahhhhh! I'm so excited about this challenge! The last one was a toughy, but this looks amazing! I can't decide whether to go contemporary, traditional or a mix of the two!

@ArikaB thanks for the kind words. The fountain was actually a substitute for what was originally going to be a waterfall. For some reason, maybe because my animations are set to low or I don't use enough FE's, I can never get the waterfall effects I want... So, I just leveled the ground and made a large pond.

Oh this one looks really interesting. Community lots are probably my weak point though! I'll see if I have time to do this.

Also, just regarding that weird appreciation thing that was going on with my game: It turns out that it is the sims I use to build - and at least one of the objects I thought was actually appreciating, was just depreciated a little less than normal. It might be easier if I just use it as an example.

    The Perfect Window:

Priscilla and Michael Plumbob (both are lvl 10 handiness. Priscilla has filled up a lot of her handiness skill journal as well):
    Cost - $169
Price after paused live mode - $200

Horatio VanEllis (complete noob, no skills, only trolled forums on free will when played):
    Cost - $225
Price after paused live mode - $193

So it's still weird that it was happening like that, but it's still a discount/depreciated value from the actual (retail? lol) cost. :P I'll have to check if it effects the overall cost of the lot (you know, the furnished/unfurnished price.)

I've been playing Sims since TS1 but am new to the Sims community  . I just stumbled over this forum and am very interested in being a part of it. I'm having trouble navigating it through; I found the newest challenge posted today but I every time I click on the winners circle link to see past challenges and winners it says the last post was in 2012? Also how do I start a challenge or sign up? is there anything else I should know?
    Thanks :D !

There is an entry form at the beginning of this thread. Just fill it up in a word program ( that is what I do ) test the links and paste it here. And welcome to the forum. And I forgot to add that the latest contest is a spa, where you are required to build a community lot. Hope to see you in the challenge.

Sue Pea and Arika tied for first. Congrats to both. A rare result indeed.

    Welcome!

The Build-n-Share challenges will be posted on Wednesdays and run for two weeks. Results will be posted one week after all entries have been submitted. If you are interested in previous challenges, the archive thread can be found here.

    Addict & Company

    Build-N-Share Challenge (238-239)

    Venus Luxe

At your desk you stretch and wince. David’s house was a nice little build after the VanEllis’s mansion. Still, between the two you have enough stress built up in your shoulders to challenge diamonds for hardness. Ah well, a nice long bath or super hot shower would help that. Still, a nice massage wouldn't hurt…

Even as you reach for the phone to book a massage at the local spa, Rose calls back that your next appointment is there. With a sigh, you straighten and put on a social smile. A few moments later, in walks Venus VanEllis. Your social smile turns into a genuine one. “Mrs. VanEllis! Congratulations on your marriage.”

Venus smiles, holding out her hand to flaunt both her gorgeous diamond engagement ring and its matching band. Obligingly you ooh and ah over it. “Thank you! I never believed I could be so happy!” She sits down across from your desk, smoothing the skirt of her very classy business suit. “I have my loving husband, wonderful in laws and that truly gorgeous house you made for us. It is almost impossible to believe I could be any happier.”

“I can understand that. Would you like some tea or coffee?”

She smiles brightly, “I would love some coffee.” Then laughs, “My darling Victor raved about your assistant’s tea, but honestly I don't know how he can drink the stuff.”

You laugh with her, reaching for the intercom.

”Fortunately Rose makes wonderful coffee too. How do you take it?”

    “Cream and 2 sugars please.”

You make small talk with her while you wait for the coffee, getting details on the wedding and her honeymoon. Once coffee has been served, you ask, “So what brings you to me today Venus?”

“Well, I was hoping that you would be able to help me with something. My sweetest honey Victor has worked so hard to provide us with a good life. He’s set things up so if I want to I could just stay home and pursue hobbies if I want. But I would like to do something more…productive.”

“What did you have in mind?”

“I want to open a spa.”

    “A spa?”

“Yes. Thanks to my family’s wealth and my mother’s love of travel, I have been able to visit some of the most exquisite spas throughout the world. I know there is a spa here,” She smiles a bit sheepishly, “But honestly, not the quality I’m accustomed to. So I want to open a high end spa here. And since you made us such a beautiful home, I’d like you to build it for me.”

“Sounds intriguing.” You pull out a pen, “What do you want it to look like?”

“I’ll leave the style to you, as long as there is an emphasis on architecture. I want some-place clean, soothing and very Zen. Obviously I’d like the most up to date and modern appliances. I’ll need rooms for treatments, saunas, massages, etc. I want to offer the most luxurious and amazing experience. Oh! And a juice bar slash café! Need to have somewhere to rest and relax after a yoga treatment.”

    “Okay. And your budget?”

“About $175,000. Think you can work with that?”

    “Not a problem.”

“Wonderful!” She finishes her coffee. “When do you think you could have this done?”

    “2 weeks?”

“You are brilliant!” Venus shakes her hand. “I cant wait to see what you come up with. I'm so excited!”

Filled with her infectious excitement, you grin and escort her out before hurrying back to get started.

    Requirements:

    • 30×30 lot
    • Parking
    • Reception area
    • Juice Bar / Coffee Shop
    • Rooms for services(You’ll need to do some research on what services you want your spa to offer.)
    • Outdoor areas for yoga and meditation and the like
    • Budget $175,000

Now you don't need to sauna and massage table to be able to do this challenge, try and get creative!!

    Optional:

We want to see pictures of the grand opening, with Venus and Victor in attendance of course.

Due date: Wednesday, 19th March, Midnight Central

Jess, you might find this tutorial useful: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/buildedit/editmodetutorial.php

As for making a parking lot, you could use terrain paints and the car spot parking space....

DRAT! I tend to stay away from any and all CC, just a personal choice for me.

I haven't gotten started on the challenge this time for Venus but I am hoping to be able to do so. DH was sick this week with the flu and I've not been feeling well today (praying I haven't caught it). We shall see how we both feel and hopefully I'll get to do this one.
