I decided to not enter the Venus Challenge. I may do the optional part. I just don't want to hurt my build by not being able to decorate or have to take out rooms just to make the budget work. I will say I think this is my best build yet :D Good Luck to everyone

You should post pictures and share a link so we can all see!

Howdy all! Apologies for being a little AWOL, but RL and ME have been kicking my butt quite spectacularly. Although, it was my last ME clinic today, so that should help to even out my activity levels, I need to try and stick to approx 3hrs 'high energy' activity each day, that includes, housework, cooking and Simming...... But when I have a 7 hour day like today it completely throws my body out of whack!!!

I have read through and noticed some comments regarding budget, at this point, I would say that a budget increase probably isn't going to be forthcoming, it's not really very fair on those who have already entered, but I will have a chat with the other judges and see what they say. I will say that CASt is your best friend when you are struggling to get your build in on budget, take cheaper items and make 'em look great!

If anyone can help me with the media part, I don't know how to take pictures without using the sims in-game camera, so all my shots are in the sims profile media.. I took lots of them this time..I combined them all in a story this time so I hope this helps my entry.

I find the best way for taking pictures is once i'm done building I go to the build section, then click on the tool for grass etc, this way the grid lines are gone from your pictures and you dont need an active sim living there.

Also, once you've finished taking pictures upload them all then post a link so that all your pictures are available for the judges. You can check the link just by clicking on it to make sure.

    Hope this helps!

So I have my house finished and my family done and I can't share anything:(. I had this problem the last challenge. I don't use custom content only base game and store stuff so I don't understand. This seemed to happen after the last patch they put in. I have some great pictures of my house but would love to upload it but I says failed, HELP!

You might want to use something like Mediafire. Sims3.com is very touchy.

I had the same problem for my pictures and decided to use Google+ instead. It's free so that's always a plus.

    Good luck! :)

Oh I'm not worried about going over budget. 35K should be plenty to finish the house and will leave enough for the rose garden. The really expensive rooms are already done and the high cost pieces already in place.

OFFICIAL ENTRY FORM ~ Venus Build n Share 233-235

    OPTIONAL CHALLENGE: http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=8016840

    LEVEL: Beginner

LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: 50x50 - 261 Valley View Drive - Moonlight Falls
    $256,517

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: Hi, This is my first ever build n share. I have never built a traditional Victorian floor plan but gave it a go.
I wanted an open feeling downstairs that way family and friends can move around freely during gatherings. Also adding small rooms off the open area to enjoy reading, tv, painting and more. Tons of bathrooms and bedrooms and room to expand if they want on the second floor. I wanted to add a romantic flare with the pool and heart shaped pepper garden along with the landscaping around the house.
Had a few problems with color and uploading..If you switch the color on an item in game to say a yellow table to a pink one it won't allow me to upload to the exchange. What are the rules on creating your own style inside the home w/ your own creation.. is that not allowed with this group as well?

I also hope this is the spot to post this lol.. thanks!

    CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM: yes

My strengths are my creativity and making basic things kind of unique. My biggest weakness is my roofing skills. I make these floor plans that just aren't condusive to a workable roof. I get so frustrated!
Someone may have already beat me to it by the time I post this, but I find myself constantly referencing ruthless_kk's roofing tutorial for Zoo U. She walks you through the different roof types, how to properly utilize them and where they're most appropriate.
    http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/45/527220.page#8368990
Lesson 2 is specific to Victorian roofs.
    http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/105/527220.page#8432633
It all seems very intimidating but once you know the techniques you'll be fine. :-)

Thanks! That tutorial was really helpful! I have a really hard time finding good roofing tutorials, and this was exactly what I needed!

Side question... If I enter the optional challenge, do I upload the original Sims - right out of CAS or can I upload the Sims where I took them through the story?

    OPTIONAL CHALLENGE: No.

LEVEL: I don't know! I'm thinking maybe advanced, but that might be because I really like how it turned out...

LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: 60x60, 20 Summer Hill Court, 255,600 Simoleons

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: This traditional Victorian manor follows the Victorian style of small rooms, with a separate room for each type of activity. With so many rooms, Victorian hallways were very large in proportion (today it would seem like a waste of space). I arranged the pictures (of the rooms) in a clockwise fashion, starting with the hallway for each floor. I included pictures of the family enjoying their new home. The way the pictures are arranged, the family's storyline is a bit out of order. This was because I thought it would be easier to get a clear picture of the house using a room by room structure.

    CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM: yes!

I don't know why it wouldn't let you upload your house. Especially if you don't have any cc. It could be a glitch because of the recent patch, or it could be your game. You shouldn't have any trouble uploading lots with stuff you recolored. I'm not technical, so the only thing I can say is to search online. Also, sometimes the servers on the Sims 3 site get overloaded. It might have just been a busy time of day. If you try at a time that less people are on, then you might have better luck.

If that doesn't help, you might have to uninstall and reinstall everything! I hope you don't have to!

Hey I've heard more of this problem. There seems to be a lot that sticks to uploads. And if it's there, it won't upload to the exchange.
You can use the custard check to remove the lot, and it should upload then.
The lot is not CC, but just random. Don't know where from, but I've heard more people had this problem. So if you can. Custard check your upload and see if the lot is also sticking to yours. http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2011/01/tutorial-delphys-custard.html

Edit: just saw you got is uploaded ;)

You don't have to upload the sims at all for the optional challenge. But just like the house, with pictures :) show them in their new home, or something (I'm really bad at it myself haha)

Wow I just realized that I had a whole week more to do my house:). Oh we'll, it's done now and I'm not changing a thing or adding more pictures. I could play it more but I uploaded and arranged a lot of pictures last night.

Jasonmloh - Your architecture is gorgeous. I really like the landscape. I love the pond; I like how you put the statue in the middle of it. Your interiors are pretty. I like the kitchen a lot altho I would have liked to see some stone, brick or tile behind the stove and counters. I like the neutral and natural colors you went with inside. The office is really nice; it has a good layout. In the bedroom with the double beds, I would have liked to see the curtains and bedding CAS'd differently. Overall it's a really lovely build with lots of charm and curb appeal! Great work!

Thank you Princess Natasha. You were right about the curtains. I hope my score won't suffer too much. :D
