What is August like in your part of the world? Hot? Cool? Rainy? Dry? Wherever you live, we’d like the month of August to be your inspiration for this season’s designer showdown. Don’t like the weather where you live? You can choose August in another part of the world to be your inspiration.
...
theme: July (in your description, please explain how the theme influenced your design)
wut?? lol
BUDGET: §83,117 (lot + build cost) Can anyone guess how we came up with this budget figure?
Hmm. that's tricky, can't quite put my finger on it... maybe I'll figure it out by the due date

D'oh!! We pulled this from the latest TS4 challenge, I'll head over and sort that out now *smacks forehead*

This really sounds like a lot of fun to try and do. I need something to take my mind and think of something "normal". So I'm going to try and do this. Count me in

Welcome @djsdragongirl!! We look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Will say the timing of this challenge is interesting... considering right now we've got wild fires going and the whole area is blanketed with smoke from BC
Maybe I'll just build a house in the third circle of hell? lol

Maybe I'll just build a house in the third circle of plum? lol
I'm guessing plum stands for h*ll.... Sounds like a bit of a nightmare for you all. Good luck.
heh, yeah. We're at least safe from the fire where I'm at, but we've been chased inside from the haze in the air, it's just too much to be out working in it and breathing it in.
I swear, if I actually read this somewhere I would not believe it so I don't blame anyone here if they have the same reaction -but my August just got a whole lot more surreal by finding a skull in the old shed we've been tearing down. Yes. A human skull. So, my shed is currently surrounded with sheriff's 'do not cross' tape. I'm not sure I can muster up a house inspired by August if this is how my August keeps going!!
Welp, the coroner, a detective, and a forensics specialist came out, dug around, didn't find anything so they took the police tape down and basically said 'as you were'. They did say they'd tell us if they found out anything but I figure they have enough active cases without worrying about this one for a while so I don't expect to hear anything.
However, now that it's settled down around here, we had a bit of a rain, the smoke has cleared up, and in general life seems to be much more normal again, I managed to scrape some inspiration up
LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: 20x30, custom placed in Hidden Springs, $79,912
LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: Grandma and Grandpa's cabin in the mountains is the perfect place to shuffle the kids to during summer break. Still furnished in comfortable 1940s styles with a variety of patters and knick-knacks, this house has a large living room with fireplace, a cozy kitchen well suited for baking and preserves with a large table to hold the family, and a main floor master bedroom with common bath.
Upstairs the kids' rooms have now become the grand-kids' rooms and a den for Grandpa to find some peace and quiet.
There is a treehouse in the backyard that Grandpa built ages ago, and the younger grand-kids still like doing backyard camp-outs around the fire, but not too far from the bathroom.
Every part of this build was infused with a sense of nostalgia, of those "better days" of childhood summers, eating green apples until you got sick and staying perpetually dirty with outdoor play; those hot August days which turned to pristine mountain nights where every star was visible.

Looks fantastic and a great place to escape to from the summer heat.
LOT SIZE, ADDRESS & FINAL COST: Custom 20x30 lot on the beach in Sunset Valley, it costs under $83000.
LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: In the past we often escaped the hot, humid weather of August in Northern Florida by renting a beach house on the beaches in North or South Carolina. We would have family reunions there because those beaches were about half way between here and Virginia, where our families live. This is my take on a smaller, and less expensive, version of some of those beachfront houses. This one has 3 bedrooms, 3 baths a great room (living, dining and kitchen), a laundry room, a desk nook, a screened in porch, a deck upstairs off the master bedroom and a lower deck with an outdoor shower. The living room area is 2 stories high with a dramatic wall sculpture that spans both levels.
I got an unauthorized notice when I looked. Do you have your site set to private or friends only @djsdragongirl?
Nice homes!
I have the house built, but the CASting isn't done. It's on my laptop, so I forget about it. I guess I should finish it.
That's the first time I've heard of that @ciane I have them on my flickr account and it's set to everyone. I'll double check the settings. I got it working now, for some reason the first link was broken. Can't wait to see what yours looks like!
