Pagan, as artistic as you are supposed to be, you shouldn't have any problem except for what Tiffany mentioned, there's not much in funds to work with.

    That being the case and this being a reality show of sorts, I went for realism as the budget was a stiff one. So, what can we do with this small amount of funds? Well, knowing that trees are expensive, I opted to keep the four beautiful and mature black gum trees right where they are and added in two less expensive young birch trees on the right side to frame the house and balance the black gum on the left.

    I opted for sandblasting and reapplying a bit of sponged in stain to the brick walkway and driveway. One of the most lovely features of this home was actually the stacked stone foundation so I decided to play up this asset and applied a bit of stack stone facade in four places to make the house look, well, more expensive. The siding got a fresh coat of paint. The roof is untouched because it would have cost over $10,000 to change the roof in reality so that seemed unreasonable. (Same with moving a driveway - any idea what that would really cost?)

    I got rid of all Grandma's pink azaleas and went for a more natural look with some heather. Unfortunately, they only had two ugly colors available so I was stuck with choosing one of them. I kept the daisies because I love white flowers. I moved some of the plants and flowers away from the gorgeous, original foundation which they were hiding! :roll:

    The windows had to stay - not enough funds to change them - so they got a fresh coat of paint. The deck and the porch got a fresh coat of stain and same with the stairs. I added a few decorative items to make the house more welcoming. Oh yes! Lighting! I added six sconces to the front of the house for lighting as well as a couple lights hidden in the greenery. I can't believe how dark this place was before that. A few rocks and a bench were my finishing touches.

    I hope you all like the improvements I made here. I am most pleased with how this project turned out and I can definitely say, This house now has an abundance of curb appeal! All the colors look more natural and less like an ice cream shop. :mrgreen:

    Gianna-Okay Chris I decided to go with a minimal effect. I think the flowers help add a pop of color that works nicely with the brick exterior. It says "well-maintained home" and makes the buyer want to come in and see more. Although kitchens and baths sell houses curb appeal gets them to walk through the door....

    *Turns toward the judges & camerman. With a giggle and smile Gianna begins to explain the design*

    This home definitely stands out on this quiet suburban street. While most of the other homes boast colorful siding, I believe that nothing says classic American style home like beautiful red brick. We didn't splurge on this makeover! With smart choices like re-claimed wood and painting the windows with gently used paint brushes the savings were substantial for this high style design. The biggest expense was the brick work as well as the weather-proof paint used for the exterior of the windows. Also by breaking up large cement slabs and using them as pavers buyers will see that this place is an ideal home.

    The lovely view for buyers pulling up to the house

    Ayana walks in with her presentation, smiles at the SHGC team and Chris Steel, and sits down to discuss her curb appeal project.

    Thank you for meeting with me today. I've brought several pictures of my proposed changes to your property. First, however, I'd like to review my goals. Now, if I'd been making over the exterior as a home you and your bride were going to stay in, my motivation and changes would have been greatly different. Ayana smiles. Such as a pond since you enjoy fishing. But the goal is to sell your house, so we have to keep our focus on making it attractive to buyers. This gave me three main goals to enhance salability.

    One. The home, above all, needs to be attractive and catch the potential buyer's interest the second they see it. They might be viewing a lot of homes, so there must be a focal point for them to remember. The house must be distinctive.

    Two. While being attractive and distinctive, the style of the home still needs to fit into its neighborhood. The average buyer is not looking to be the only ultra modern house in a traditional neighborhood. They want a house that is similar to the others but better than all the rest. I studied the neighborhood your house sits in and it is predominantly traditional with a smattering of international influence. You'll see how this has influenced my design decision.

    Last but certainly not least, the house must still be enough of a blank slate for the potential buyer to be able to visualize their personality superimposed on it. This means a lack of ornaments or kitschy decorations that might clash with their personality. The house should be predominantly neutral in color so that it's easy to repaint.

    I've kept all of these goals in mind and, I feel, met each in a way that creates a unique facade that will be the delight of the neighborhood. I have taken the "so old, it's new" approach so that the house matches its traditional neighborhood yet attracts buyers of all ages. Since the house directly across the street brings in international influence, I have created a "Sunset Valley Tudor". Ayana passes a picture across the table.

    Instead of using the traditional white, I've chosen a light beige color that matches the feel of the neighborhood and is easily repainted. The facial boards on the top level are purely decorative and can be removed easily in case the buyer doesn't like the style. The roof has been evened and opened to allow the lovely decorative boards to be seen. The front porch columns have been replaced with a charming rose-covered basic style and the front door has been replaced as a highly decorative focal point.

    Of course, our main focal point will be the small English garden in the front yard. The charming walkways are both decorative, with their beautiful stone, and functional as they provide clean paths to the front door, driveway, sidewalk and even storage shed. I've reused all of your flowering plants and think that the azaleas make a beautiful semi-privacy hedge to hide the walkway. I've also added shrub roses which are a beautiful low maintenance plant that's easy to grow and has a long blooming period. Covered seating allows the garden to be enjoyed in shaded comfort. The buyer will appreciate that it can be easily relocated and the seating is made of a durable stain- and weather-proof material.

    The driveway has been relocated slightly to the right so that the large living room windows aren't blocked by a car. This touch may seem simple at first, but it will make a large impact when potential buyers tour the home and experience that expanded view for themselves.

    The mailbox has been relocated closer to the home. Again, it's a simple touch yet adds daily convenience for the buyer, and they will notice. The trash can, essential for any home, has been hidden within a storage shed in the backyard. She passes over another picture.

    It was very important to me to hide this out of sight. This has both a short and a long term benefit. Potential buyers will be turned off if they see even a reminder of trash when viewing the home, and when they see the shed they will be relieved to find an outside storage area for their own lawn and garden implements. It's been decorated in a charming style to match the home.

    Ayana hands over a closer view of the home.

    Other small changes I've made to spruce up the home are to replace the stairs and railings with a less rural style and match them to the home. The back door has been recolored to match the front. Also, the back door light fixture has been replaced and lights have been added to the front. The lovely brick foundation has been stained a darker color and the windows have also been painted to match the trim.

    I've had some general tidying done that requires more time than money, such as cleaning all of the windows and removing the clover from the yard which, while I personally find it nostalgic, can been seen as a weed and future work by some. While we didn't touch the inside of the home other than what the doors and windows required, I would suggest putting curtains up, at least on the windows viewable from the road. This lets the buyer know that you care for your home and raises its value in their mind.

    I truly hope that you've enjoyed this curb appeal makeover. I think potential buyers will be entranced by its charm and you'll find that it attracts both older buyers, who love the old world style, and younger buyers, who love the international flair. Ayana winks. The same lovely style but from two different points of view.

    Ayana shakes hands with the team and walks out. She immediately rests against the wall and sighs in relief.

    Gouka:

    Don't ask me what the little green pokey parts are under the eaves. It seems to be random roof flotsam that The Sims adds because it isn't even selectable to recolor or delete. Also, for those doing a wall covering change, I suggest reselling the old wall covering before adding the new one. My game didn't reimburse me for the old wall coverings unless I forced it to.

    Edit: Had to update my pictures because of a silly thing I forgot to finish!

    After showing my man Chris, err, Mr. Steel several choices in my Digital Home Design program, such as: The Greek, The Kincaid, The Mountaineer and The Modern.

    His final choice was the Kincaid. I am sure his darlin’ bride will just as pleased. :D

    screenshot_original.jpg"width=640"

    First we started off with a complete turf replacement for the entire yard. Easily and cheaply done, and what a great improvement! Best looking yard on the block.

    Now it's time to choose the roof color and finish for the house. We recycled the siding and got a great deal on some maintenance free brick. Going with subtle shades in an earthly color for the brick and roof will be a great background for the rest of the yard.

    At this point it was time to get the drive out of the front yard. Since there is plenty of space on the side of the house we’ve added a lovely vine covered Arbor. Not only does it add quaint beauty to the house it allows for a covered work area and vehicle coverage.

    screenshot_original.jpg"width=640"

    The stones for the drive and walkway were handpicked by myself to ensure the right color, texture and size.

    Mr. Steel says his brides favorite color is yellow so we absolutely had to have yellow in the flowers. I choose whites to complement the yellows and orange to spice it up.

    And what is a front porch without a comfy loveseat to enjoy those quiet starry nights. I’ve also, added a touch of greenery to bring it into the yard and a much more inviting front door.

    screenshot_original.jpg"width=640"

    The mailbox was just the place to add the orange color to the yard. Behind it we added a brick planter for a touch more of the orange.

    screenshot_original.jpg"width=640"

    Did you know Mr. Steel’s favorite animal is the giraffe? Well, I simply could not resist when I found that out. I had a bush sculpted into a giraffe and planted it out in front of the flower filled cart. It added just the right touch to help even out the yard.

    And last but not least we added some lighting to the yard.

    *Amélie persona* Amélie strides into the judging room, sets up her projector and slides and then sits down gracefully while winking at Christopher Steele

    "Hello, Mr. Steele, or should I say Mr. Steele Abs...She thinks to herself about when she was flirting with him the other day and felt that six pack he is hiding. Too bad he's clearly in love with his new bride. and wonderful judges of SHGC Competition. Now I have done a completely different type of curb appeal makeover then all the others who well basically did the same old boring cottagey country look. I however, think what people want now-a-days is something a bit more modern, and cutting edge! Without further ado I present to you...the new and improved Steele House." She clicks to the first slide

    "I decided to go with a modern look, because I think it stands out in the neighborhood amongst the boring little cottages and country houses. Buyers are looking for something special, something unique, they don't want to be like everyone else. The grey coloring of the house is perfect for the modern look, and the slitted windows from the Bah Haus design firm, extenuates the sleek modern look as well. Now as the roof was an expensive project and Mr. Steele had limited funds I talked (and by that she means flirted) to my daddy's contractor the one who does all of our renovations on the Fabrice Mansion, and he decided to do the roof for free by my design. A modern house is nothing without the modern sleek and slanted roof."

    01FrontShot.jpg

    Amélie clicks to the next slide

    "As you can see I chose to do a stone pathway, which leads up to stairs that are modern, see through, and have black solid railings. There are stately rocks on either side of the stairs to give more focus and importance to the entry way. The pathway is lined with black lights to make sure that people coming during the evening can find their way. I also chose sunflowers which were the least expensive item, but the one that did the best effect, it gives a little bright cheeriness to the home making it lively and inspiring to live in. I also chose the round hedge becasue when kept up with and trimmed they give another solid shape that enhances the modern look, and adds another bit of color to the home. The mailbox is put of to the side where the driveway hits the pathway, so that the homeowner can pick up their mail after getting home from a long day at the office and head straight to the door. There are two lights on either side of the door to light up the front porch and make sure there is no tripping. I chose to use a modern glass door so that it lets in a good amount of light in the entryway.

    04FrontPorchUpclose.jpg

    Amélie clicks to the next slide

    "On the left side of the home you can see a lovely Ash tree that provides shade, with more sunflowers and a bench for a nice rest during a beautiful sunny day. The rocks are perfect to give more shape and attraction, as they are sleek and smooth.

    03LeftSide.jpg

    Amélie clicks to the next slide

    "On the right side of the front of the home, you will see the driveway which has been paved so that the homeowner's car does not have to get dirt on the wheels every time they park their vehicle. And you can see in this picture more clearly what I was talking about in regards to the mailbox being easily accessible on your way into the home. Also on the right is another Ash tree with another smooth rocks, and some lovely little yellow flowers."

    02RightSide.jpg

    Amélie clicks to the next slide

    "Last but not least we come to the backyard. The porch has been lined with a modern black and glass railing like the front porch. In solid rectangular shapes to add to the modern look. The flooring has also been recolored to match the rest of the color palette. From the porch you can now see a lovely little pond with water lilies and imported Chinese Koi Fish have been put in it. It is surrounded by hydrangea bushes that smell lovely and look lovely and also are known to attract butterflies. In the back ground you can see the mountains looking majestic and beautiful. I don't know how any homeowners would be able to resist this view."

    05BackyardView.jpg

    Amélie turns off the projector with a click of a button

    "So as you can clearly see the modern look is sleek, smooth, and intriguing, and will attract home buyers to come take a further look. This concludes my presentation." Amélie smirks, as the judges faces are still in jaw drop position. And she strides out of the room. *end Amélie persona*

    Hey its me Whisp! So this challenge was well...uh, a challenge, lol. Landscaping not my forte, but I think I did a pretty good job, guess it just takes practice. And well having the limited funds also makes it challenging. Had to change thing around several time. Had to for-go my original wall coloring, I may add it back just so I can put this home in my actual playable sunset valley as I just love it. :) However, the inside would need remodeling as well. I'm sort of glad I was the first person to go modern. Seeing other modern versions would have thrown me off. lol Well this was fun fun fun! Hope I make to the next round. *grits teeth, and crosses fingers* :) Have a good day everyone!

    *After Pagan takes down all of her notes on Mr. Steel's likes and dislikes she decide it is best to try to stay more traditional while still getting her creative expressions in*

    So with that let me tell you what I have done today. First I went with a somewhat Asian feel to the changes wanting it to stand out among the other homes on the block but no so far out of scope it is like the freak on the block.

    screenshot_original.jpg"width=600"

    So the first thing I did was talk to my buddy at Roof'r'Us since I helped him redo his bathroom last month he owed me a favor so he redid Mr. Steel's roof for me to give it a different feel, with a few over hanging parts and the rest a more classic feel to it.

    screenshot_original.jpg"width=600"

    After that was done, I went to work Next I redid a flower bed and added some rocks and stones for texture.

    screenshot_original.jpg"width=600"

    After that I added in a few more bushes and plants to help fill out the rest of the lot, and thus my finished product was done.

    ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
    Mystik Here - Woooo that was a hard one! *wipes away sweat* Especially when I had that scare that I had to redo everything. All and all I think it came out of for being my very first landscaped/curb appeal project. It was fun trying to stay in the budget for sure! Everyone's looks so amazing so far this really was an interesting challenge!
    Your facade it the same thing as a first hand impression and looks matters! Thats why i payed a lot of money for my look! Unfortunately money was tight for this make-over, but with a few friendly *Tiffany winks* favors from a few guys, i made it look extravagant and stand out from the rest of this boring neighborhood!
    A sexy gartner gave me a good price on the trees and flowers, and a builder called Bob bought the old fences, front door, windows tiles and that sort of stuff.
    Since i really know about facade work *Tiffany smiles and glance down at her enormous breast*, I focused on the facade only. I painted the back in a cheap color, and had the builder guy buy of the ugly fence from back porch. So the style i went for, with Christopher's approval, was modern elegance with a beachy feeling, to make it cozy as well. - I mean they still want get a mansion out that little house! The stairs are travertine, but i wanted to keep the entrance area more clean cut modern, so i got some amazing high fences and a modern glass door. I also used an other type of stone wall her, to keep it interesting. But whats a better combination than steel, glass and stone!? The wall light is very stylish, so to link it to the front yard, i places some unpretentious potted palms."
The combination of the shading palm trees and the modern love seats on top of the sand in front of the running water is sure to get some attention for any one stopping by!     Bob here, I have some news for you all. I have decided to quit my job at the fire station and concentrate on my artwork from now on. All the works of art with the furniture lines created and now the beautiful makeovers you have all done have inspired me to do this. I have been watching you all from the fire station all week and have had a very good view of what you all have been doing.
    As this location was close to my job (I am working my notice at the minute) I have been able to do a little each day during the quite times, it's so much easier doing a little at a time with these big projects, that way you don't feel so overwhelmed by them. Chris was more than happy to let me drop by when ever I had time. He said that he didn't realise that one of the local firemen was taking part in this SHGC project, he is a very nice guy and he even invited me to the wedding when I had finished.
    Anyhow, I told Chris he was thinking of the wrong market when selling this house. Sunset Valley is well known for it's beautiful coast lines and gorgeous sandy beaches, it's a perfect vacation area! So why not market this property as a vacation home? I know this house is not near the beach but hopefully the semi modern look I have given it will appeal to tourists thinking of buying a second home here or one of the locals that want to buy in to the updated Sunset Valley image.
    Chris kindly helped me with the roofing and once I placed it down he freshened the colour up with a nice sea water blue roof stain that I had chosen, I wanted to give this house a slight Mediterranean feel so a blue roof worked well. Speaking of which the white paint I used for this makeover was amazing, it really brought out the the blue in the roof and window frames and nicely complimented the stone work which I found once I removed that awful cladding. I know white is my favourite colour and everything so of course I will like it but who would have thought that a coat of cheap white paint could look so brilliant on the walls! I reused the glass from the old windows but added a new frame for them, the wood for this was not cheap though and this did take up a large part of my budget but they do give the house a nice nautical look, it reminds me of the ones I have seen at the local lighthouse. With not much money left to spend I decided to work on some flowerbeds as I know that the locals like these. While I was at the garden center I also found some great shrubs and potted plants, although these don't flower these evergreen plants are good to use as they are very low maintenance and they look super all year round. As you will be able to see from my pictures I used the potted plants to decorate the eaves of the flat roofs as well as placing them around the fountain at the front of the house. Unfortunately there was not enough money to build a garage but I did add two parking spots, so visitors will not have to worry about parking on the street in the way of the fire station.
    Ok here are the snapshots of the finished project, chris insisted that one of the film crew took one of us together for his album.
    I knew they would do that. I asked when I reported it if they would only delete only that post. :(
    Before I saw your post Reach in Cherry's comments I did save all 28 pages of the thread to html files so can post anythings you don't have if they are needed Reach and Cherry.
    Edit, thanks Msrednotdead.
    I'm so upset about this. I'm really glad he spared my stickies. Walden's post is gone again. Why can't they simply delete those offending post instead of the whole thread.
    In tech the 40+ pages thread about invisible sims is gone too. There was so much info in that thread.
    :x
    *hugs to Bloo*
    I also saved as much as I could. I got all three of my sets saved (sim, round and and round 2) so I can repost that. And, I got all of the info on each part of the contest so far, saved. I also was able to save Gouka and SammieD info on their Sim's but than I lost it before I could get any more.
    If you send me a message on my main comment page I will save my e-mail and can send what I was able to save if needed.
    It stinks that someone did that!
    What infuriates me the most is that I am a site administrator on another forum and YOU CAN JUST DELETE A POST! YOU NEVER HAVE TO DELETE AN ENTIRE THREAD FOR A TROLL! It was totally uncalled for to delete these entire threads.
    I asked the same thing when I reported it (delete just the one post) knowing many people might report it but not be personally involved in the competition.
    What I don't get is why they didn't ban that guy yesterday. He was posting nude pics then.
    He will be back so I suggest to everyone to save their most important info.
    I made a new invisible Sims thread in tech. Please spread the word if you see people asking:
    I know what you mean. I felt torn about reporting it too but... we can't have that stuff here and dozens of people would have reported it if we didn't.
    @Crin - will do. :thumbup:
    Some of the other pics he posted were even worse and a lot of the stickied topics got deleted as well. I was in live chat and kept asking why did they have to delete all the topics and why could they not of banned him quicker instead of just deleting topics and letting him continue to post in new topics. Funny enough I didnt get any replies
    I... Thank you, guys. Thank you so very much for saving what you could. I'm... I am a little lost right now. I was out most of today, and just got my computer back up, and read Reach's e-mail first because I knew she'd only e-mail me if it was important and... *sigh*
    Okay, I'm going to start a new thread, but it will probably take me a few days to get everything back to normal. Um... I've got a lot to do today away from the computer. I'll see what I can do.
    Just found this: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/357761.page. Read Nichs post at the very end.
    Maybe they did that with some other threads as well (I'm hoping anyway)
    I'm so sorry hon that this happened to you. :( It's a darned shame that it went on as long as it did. It's an even bigger shame the number of threads that got deleted today. I've been in GD all day and it was outright ridiculousness! :x
    **Thanks reach for being the great friend that you are.
    Thank you to those who saved information from the post. I really thought they would just delete that post as I don't understand why the thread contributors should suffer for it. I guess they want easy instead of fair.
