Lifetime Wants Don't Show

I just got World Adventures. I was playing the basegame just a couple of days previously. I installed the pack and made a couple of sims, but when I got to the lifetime wants they didn't show up. Just icons with hearts. And when I selected them they didn't count as the wants so I could finish the family. Then, in neighborhood, the little bubbles above the lots stopped showing up. Then I couldn't load already-made families. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both games multiple time, installed update after update, and deleted all CC that I got in those 2 days but it still won't work and I don't know what to do. Due to some long-standing issues with the sims 2 I just want ONE of my Sims games to work!! Plus I just dropped $30 on a game that I haven't been able to play yet. Help?
