Incompatibility despite using incremental and later cumulative updates

Yesterday my game managed to totally bork itself. So, I thought I should do a complete uninstall and then reinstall. I installed the base game. So far, so good. Then (after incrementally installing the basegame patches) I installed World Adventures. I then incrementally installed the WA patches through 2.5. It said it needed to update (and wouldn't let me start the game.)

I tried updating using the launcher, but it gave me the "base game incompatibility" notice even though it said I was updated to 2.12.8.009001.

So I completely uninstalled again. Then I reinstalled them. I seem to do fine until I get to WA. So, I tried the cumulative patch. No go.

So I completely uninstalled again. Then I had the game update itself for WA through the launcher. Then I tried the cumulative patch again. No go.

I have no 3rd party content or mods. Before I uninstalled the games I removed the TS3 folder to the desktop (to save it for later.) I have not tried to replace it, so my game is completely vanilla at this point.

What more can I do and why is this doing this right now? I've been playing the game since it came out and have not had any major problems. This was my first time having to uninstall/reinstall.

    Hi,

Have you verified that the version.tag file has been deleted from Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3? If that does not solve the issue you can do a manual uninstall of the games to remove the possibility of corrupted files or registries:

Please note that you may require Administrative access to perform the manual deletion of game files or registries. If issues persist with manual deletion, it is advised that you boot Windows in Safe Mode before trying again.

When the games are completely removed, reboot the computer. When you have successfully reinstalled the base game, patch it fully via the launcher, or use the base game Super Patcher. After reinstalling World Adventures, patch it fully via the launcher, or use the EP2 game Super Patcher. For reference, the Super Patchers can be found here:

I had no difficulty manually deleting the game. However, when I updated using the launcher, I was fine until I did the update for WA. Then it was back to having the wrong basegame update.

When I mouse over the basegame icon on the launcher, it says that it is 1.5.82.002001. So I tried the incremental basegame update, but it said that it was already updated to 1.7. (It went to fast to catch the rest of the numbers associated with it.)

Well, it took two more tries, but I finally got it to install and not beg for an update that it already had.

The final try I not only deleted the games manually, but I also deleted the Download Manager. That's the only difference I had between the final try and the one right before it.

Thankyou for all your help. Hopefully others will have similar luck (without all the tries it took me.)
