Bug when travelling on vacation. (UPDATE: Workaround discovered.)

I recently added Ambitions to an installation that includes the main game and World Adventures. I don't have any stuff packs or Late Night.
Since then, any time I have a family "Travel", the family reaches the destination, but the game's controls are locked out. Only the sim that initiated the trip can be controlled; the others can't be accessed. No one's face appears in the area where sims can be selected. The family's cash is set to 0, all wishes and moodlets are wiped out, and none of the info panels to the right can be opened. The game is rendered unplayable and must be killed and restarted -- the "Quit" command from the main menu doesn't work.
Anyone have a suggestion for this?

I seem to be having a similar problem..after downloading (manual install) the latest patch. My France is buggy. My main family were traveling there when I did the upgrade. I went back to an earlier saved game and then tried to resend them but the screen just goes back to desktop. I am trolling the forums to try and find out if it is possible to re-set the travel destinations. It has really borked my game as the Nick Alto had just about reached level 3 and was going to get the good grapes for his nectar making career!! I am about to try France with a new family. Otherwise guess it is another re-install??
I've read elsewhere on the forum that some problems with vacation areas can be solved by actually deleting the .nhd (neighborhood) file out of your saved game directory. Here are the details:
1. Make a COPY of your saved game directory.
2. In the COPY directory delete the .nhd file(s) corresponding to the area(s) where you're experiencing problems.
3. Start Sims 3 and open your COPY save.
4. Choose one member of your household to travel to the location. (Don't bother taking any actions with any other sims, and don't bother taking more than one person there, because...)
5. Wait for the travel operation to crash Sims 3, taking you back to the desktop.
6. Start Sims 3 again, and open your COPY save again.
7. As a test, send one person to the troubled location again.
EXPECT: At this point, the travel process will succeed, and your one sim will land in the remote location, and your Sims 3 dashboard will be intact. The game has recreated the location's neighborhood data. The location is now playable again, but...
THE PRICE YOU PAY FOR PROGRESS: Any edits you've made to the area are now gone, and (this needs verification) all dungeon areas have been reset. After all, you just deleted the neighborhood.
8. Bring your test sim back home.
9. If your test sim makes it home, and there are no other observed errors, SAVE YOUR GAME, preferably with another new name.
EXPECT: The new save directory will have a newly-created .nhd file for the location that you tested.
10. Rinse and repeat for additional locations if desired.
Tried to take a sim to france - game crashes straight away. Ive not taken any sims to france before, but have previously taken sims in another neighborhood to Egypt and China, with no problems. This is the first time traveling from a new neighborhood, and a new family.
I started to have this, and other problems, since the new patch. None of my object mods will work, and the launchers is bit funny, too. When I first load the launcher, I get a message informing me that the launcher has stopped working, when in fact its working just fine.
I dont really know what to try
