Tutorial - Connecting Pools to Basement Walls after Late Night EP

Since the release of Late Night, the old way of connecting basements and in-ground pools together doesn't work. With some subtle changes though there are two techniques now to do the same thing.

First Method

This is essentially the same as Amoebius' earlier method and he still deserves all the credit for showing the simming community how to do this. But since Late Night, we just have to do it in reverse of those earlier steps.

Step 1. Build your basement area.

Screenshot-152.jpg

Step 2. Grab the pool tool, and on ground level, hold down the CTRL key and drag your pool where you want it to be.

Screenshot-153.jpg

When you let go of the mouse button, it will look like nothing happened. But if you go down to basement level, you will see that one side of the basement wall has disappeared where you used the pool tool. I circled it in red.

Screenshot-154.jpg

Step 3. Then go back to ground level and draw your pool in regularly with the pool tool.

Screenshot-155.jpg

Now if you go down to basement view, you will see the pool and basement are connected.

Screenshot-156.jpg

You can then add windows to the wall between the two areas for a viewable pool.

Screenshot-158.jpg

Since Late Night, you don't even need to use the "moveobjects on" cheat to place the windows either. Cool!

Again, all credit for this method still belongs to Amoebius, because they are his same steps, just in reverse order.

Second Method

This accomplishes the same thing as the first method. Takes a few more steps, but then offers more flexibility with what we can do with the pools once they are placed. Others in the community are already working on other tutorials for other effects we will be able to do with pools. :)

Step 1

Draw a large area of basement around the area you want your pool to be located.

Screenshot-138.jpg

Step 2

Use the pool tool, to then draw your pool area inside the perimeter of the basement.

Screenshot-139.jpg

Step 3

Grab the hammer tool and go to the basement level and delete the basement from around the edge of the pool on your other three sides where the red arrows are.

Screenshot-160.jpg

You can then add the windows to the walls between the basement and the pool as before.

Screenshot-163.jpg

This second method will then allow you to do other things with in-ground pools like put walls inside of them, etc.

I hope these two methods will once again let builders connect their in-ground pools to basement walls. A lot of us thought this ability was lost with the release of the Late Night expansion. But as you can see, we still get to enjoy this thoroughly enjoyable expansion from EA, as well as have connected pools with basements. :)

I second the great news comment. I'm thrilled that this wasn't lost with LN and that there wasn't a repeat of WA . And thanks Meestor for posting this. I'm looking forward to the new aquarium tut Eve.

Evie, You deserve some thanks too. You being determined, determined about fish aquariums got me realizing a solution was needed in the first place. Lol.

EuphorialQueen, by all means post the link all you wish. This is all about sharing techniques for all of us builders. Thank you for your comments. :)

Jisgr8, you get a lot of credit too. Without you letting us know about building a wall inside of pools, I never would have thought along the lines in the second method. Knowing what you told us, let me think about other possibilities beyond how we used to do it.

    Thanks for that!
I'd been trying for a matter of minutes before I gave up on doing this. Now I'm going to have to work this method into something JUST because I can.

You can also now build pools on upper levels of a house...just drag the pool tool over the floor, and then you can add windows on the level below, which doesn't have to be a basement.

Thank you for your comments everyone. Sooo looking forward to all the creativity to come from this community with pools and fountains since Late Night. As Steph said we can put them on any level now. WOOO! I am sure there will be all sorts of creative and beautiful new uses coming from all the builders here. :0)

And Allure, you are right, recs would be cool, but the story maker makes me nervous about pictures just disappearing from them. It's happened in the past...

:D Well it looks like I've found another Genius on the forums. Great tutorial, thanks very much MM (Mmmmmm I love M&M's, oops... off subject) Ahem, question, have you got any idea how to change the music on the public speakers? The ones in Community objects only play classical music which isn't always what I want to hear (though not bad occasionally) Since your so cool with this kind of thing I was hoping maybe you (or one of our Simming compadres) would know?? 8)

:D Along with bumping along this very good piece of info. I thought I'd come back to answer my own question. The way to change the music on a public speaker is to hold down Ctrl & Shift, (while in build) left click on the speaker and a bevy of options will appear. Have a great day.
