SillyCailey, I am SOOOOO sorry! It is entirely my fault that your stunning entry was left out. [I don't know how I could have missed it!] I have added it to the official list on the archive, but of course the challenge has already been judged. So let me give you a few comments of my own:

You have a wonderful sense of detail. The CC "clutter" you used gives the diner a perfect retro feeling. It is well laid out, and the outdoor area is charming. I like your choice of windows and doors, too. My favorite shot was of Ben playing an arcade game in the foyer to the men's room! I laughed when I noticed you had put the arcade games in the men's room but a more dignified sitting area for the ladies room! My only advice is to watch the saturation of colors—the reds and blues seemed too intense, especially with all the competing patterns you chose. (And I might have kept the ceiling plain white.) Overall though, a wonderfully playful build.

This was one of the most difficult challenges for me to judge. Each entry blew me away with its level of detail and imagination. I’m glad that each one of the three chose a different inspirational object. It made it so much fun to judge!

Comments: Steam punk Victorian was the perfect decorating choice for the clock as inspirational object. Your use of CC clutter throughout the interior was brilliant. I could imagine a character out of a Jules Verne novel living in it! I was also mightily impressed by your combination of colors and patterns. It is difficult to pull off, but you did so beautifully. My favorite shot was of the Sim using the steam-powered weight equipment. I laughed out loud! I do have a few suggestions: your choice of exterior wall covering, while harmonious and attractive, didn’t really live up to the over-the-top Steam punk interior. Same for the landscaping. There were a few mechanical items (like the wonderful octopus and mechanized hot tub!) but you could have stepped it up even a bit more. Overall, though, a fabulous job.

Comments: I have been in high-end beach houses that weren’t as nice as your Bahama Breeze—again, a perfect interpretation of the potted palm as inspirational object. You are another master of CC clutter, and your screenshots looked like they might have come out of Architectural Digest. I loved your use of bold tropical patterns, and I found your use of black to be particularly striking (like in the teenager’s bedroom). The overall build was completely harmonious. The exterior of the house, the landscaping and the interiors all worked together to create a tropical paradise of a house! My only quibble is putting the kitchen where you did. It seems a little odd to enter the house through the kitchen. But, hey, if someone gave me a house as beautiful as that, I’d learn to live with it! ☺ Spectacular job!

Comments: With your gnome house, we enter a whimsical world of fantasy. I was especially impressed that you could create a house with so much detail without using outside CC. And the landscaping of the house was particularly brilliant—I loved the use of the large rocks. The wood interiors throughout gave the house a charmingly rustic feeling, and I love the plants everywhere inside! It felt sometimes like it was built beneath a large tree. Some of the wall patterns did not work as well as others, I thought. Where you used simple geometric patterns or brick, it seemed oddly out of kilter with the rest of the house. The rock walls, wooden walls, swirlly and leafy patterns looked great. There were a few rooms, too, (like the entrance hall and the bedroom with the princess bed) that you might have raised the level of detail up one notch. But overall, the house and grounds tied together beautifully. You have such a wonderful imagination!

    And the winner is:

Comments: I must admit I had a hard time at first figuring out which was your inspirational object. The round windows made me think you were going for a nautical theme, but I couldn’t spot the life preserver in your pictures. My next guess was the potted palm, and when I read your “Lot Description & Details”, I saw that I was right. I thought you made very good use of the World Adventure objects. The interiors had a lovely warm, consistent color scheme, and you used patterns and textures well, too. I especially like the wooden ceilings and the addition of turquoise into some of the rooms. And overall, there was enough “clutter” to make the rooms seem real. I might have made the round windows stone or some other material to take away the nautical suggestion, and there was an (outdoor) refrigerator placed in front of one of those round windows, which seemed a little awkward. The potted palm trees were sticking through the wall into the garage. You might have placed them, using the Alt (or Option on a Mac) key so that the leaves didn’t stick through.

Comments: The lovely Cape Cod style of your house promised a nautical theme, and I was not disappointed when I saw the screenshots of the interior. You found many wonderful CC décor items and used them well throughout the house. You are the only one (so far) to have put all four bedrooms on the upper level, using what others have designated the master bedroom on the ground floor as a kitchen instead. It makes for a great layout on the ground floor but presents some privacy problems for one of the bedrooms on the upper floor. There is a consistency of color and material, and that lends a quiet elegance to the house, but also risks looking monotonous. A few more splashes of primary yellow and red and navy blue might have given an extra spark to the interior décor. There was also a bit of a problem with the horizontal siding in the one CFE’d exterior panel near the garage. There are no easy solutions to that. Overall, though, you created a wonderful nautically-themed house, and I was not the least bit surprised to see the life preserver by the front door in the last screenshot!

Comments: It’s interesting to contrast your gnome house with the one that ZYIsSims built in the advanced category. Whereas hers looked like a house a gnome would actually live in, yours is more like the house of a Sim who really likes gnomes. Both interpretations are valid. I love the stucco and brick exterior you chose, and the landscaping suits it perfectly. I especially love the stone-lined walks. On the inside, the half-wall works well to define the front entrance, separating it from the dining room. Overall, the color scheme works well, and I love the whimsical touches like the flowers, vines and mushrooms growing in the game room. My only suggestion would be to rearrange the objects in the nursery. Right now, it looks like everything is placed around the perimeter of the room with a big blank area in the middle.

Comments: You showed a great deal of skill in the overall look of the house. The exterior of the house is charming and beautifully landscaped. I love the domed pergola—very creative. I must admit, though, I had a hard time figuring out your inspiration object until I saw flower trellis near the end. When I figured out what it was, then I could see—going back—how that led to the use of flowers and floral patterns in the house. Each room is beautifully decorated—great combinations of patterns and colors and lots of “clutter” items that make the rooms seem “real”—but I’m not always sure there is an overall decorative thread that ties the house together. I might be obtuse here, however! It really is a lovely house.

Comments: There was no doubt about your inspiration item, since you featured it prominently in many of your rooms! ;) But there were enough nautical décor items about the house to suggest that the life preserver was your inspiration object anyway. I love the pastel colors you used throughout the interior. It gave a consistency to the house overall. And the gray shingled siding was a perfect choice for the exterior walls. It made the house fit in well to its coastal setting. Some of the rooms seemed a little bare, so I would suggest a few more décor items to make the rooms come alive. And be careful of the angles of your screenshots. The distorted perspective in some of your shots make it hard to appreciate all the creative touches you’ve put into your build. I know it’s tempting to zoom out the camera in order to get everything into one picture, but it’s better to take more pictures with less distortion!

Comments: You seemed to have had the perfect storm of things going wrong with your media. I do hope for future challenges you can figure out what is preventing you from uploading larger images. I also would have gladly downloaded your lot to see it in game, but I know you had trouble with uploading your lot, too. That said, I did my best to evaluate the images that were there, and I must say I guessed right what your inspiration object would be. Even from the small images, I could tell the house had kind of a modern urban vibe to it, and so when I saw the blue city painting, I was not at all surprised! I loved that you included a pool in the landscaping. And I also appreciated the many clever things you did with the MOO cheat. I just wish I could have seen your house in better detail!

Comments: Gotta love steampunk! And of course, the clock was your inspiration object. I loved the Jules Verne style windows at the front of the house and the yard littered with mechanical contraptions. The inside of the house is crazy (!), but there is definitely a method to the madness. It works well together, and you were very consistent in the level of detail in each room. I laughed at the excess plumbing in the upstairs bathroom—an inspired touch. But then again there were fascinating details everywhere. I liked the over-the-top exterior to a point, but I would have softened the orange. And I’m thinking that a crazy professor type might have fenced in her yard to keep prying eyes away, but maybe that’s just me! Overall, a great job.

Scoiattolo, thank you for all the feedback. I will try the ATL tip for plants/trees showing through the walls. That has always bothered me, but I never knew there was a trick to fix it. I have a feeling there are a lot of cheats and tricks out there that I don't know anything about! Just learning as I go, I suppose! I always appreciate the judges comments. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them.

Adorable architecture! Love the trees! The kitchen and dinning area in picture #3 are a little dark; try to play with lighting more next time. Bathroom is well lite! Very pretty garden but I'd like to see some terrain paint under the hydrangeas and other plants next time! After all, it is free! I don't see a lot of wall art but you did well by using the walls as sort of art with the lovely patterns you chose! Very creative! Pretty pond! Once again, TERRAIN PAINT! It makes a huge difference! Overall you did a fantastic job!

Amazing architecture! Some of your interiors are a little dark! Play with lighting a little bit more next time! Great use of terrain paint! Love the veggie garden! I love the colors you used esp the green in the one bedroom! I feel as if a few parts of the house could have used a piece of wall art to liven it up a bit! Sometimes in a budget build wall art tends to be over looked making the interiors seem 1/2 finished and a little bland! Love your use of the brick accent wall. Maybe, instead of expensive wall art, you could have used it a bit more in the bedrooms to liven things up! Just a thought/idea! Lots of book cases! Overall you did a really great job!

Amazing architecture! A lap pool, and the client is athletic! Great idea! You terraformed and used lots of terrain paint! Great tree choices too for a modern build! The bushes/plants/whatever those are around/between the bamboo trees might have been a little bit much for a modern but I personally like it! Absolutely love picture 12! Love the rich, warm interiors! Great pattern and color choices! An exercise room! How perfect! You definitely thought of everything!

Fantastic! Picture #19 gave me a little laugh! Thanks for that! Exercise room! Perfect! Love the bathroom altho that toilet wouldn't be my 1st choice! That is prolly one of the best looking garages I've ever seen! I love it! Not too fond of two lamps on the dresser in the master bedroom! One and a little plant might have worked better!

Comments: It is always a pleasure to see your creations. As the only entrant in this category, you are, of course, the winner, but your entry would be a winner regardless! You did a spectacular job with the wedding venue! The landscaping is detailed, thought out, and, well, just breathtaking! I love the stairway up into the rocks. I also love how the lushly flowered landscape seems to flow into the décor of the building. I have only minor suggestions to offer: One is that I would have liked to see an overhead shot of the whole lot. I like to be able to place each screenshot in the context of the overall whole. The other is that the rocks in the waterfall area seem to be floating in the air. I wasn’t sure if that was your intention.

    Brennachan:
Very unique with the Asian design theme. Asian theme isn’t the first that pops to my mind when I think of a wedding venue! Very creative! Beautiful gardens! I especially love the aisle, seating area, and wedding arch! Very creative and unique! Pretty color combination here as well! My suggestion to add a little reality to your garden would be to play with terrain paints more! Make sure to add a little dirt under plants like the plants in front of the pond. Picture 18 I see more of the pond… terrain paint around it a little next time! It will really add to the beauty of it! I like the rock garden! I love the rich, cozy, warm feeling interiors although they feel all empty! They seem a little skimpy compared to the expansive garden! I would have liked to see some rugs (they would have added to the over all feeling you went for) and maybe some none dinning seating for the dancers! Overall you did a splendid job and I really love the Asian design as it isn’t something I would have thought of! Great job!

    jostubbs:
Very lovely architecture! I would have played a little with exterior paint and maybe added another stone or wood… using two or, sometimes, three exterior paints really livens up and adds beauty to a build. I like the color and furniture choices in the alter area. I like the stage, ½ wall, and wedding arch combination you created! In picture 5 there seems to be a water thingy in front of the door… maybe just in the middle of the floor and looks as if it is in front of the door… either way it seems out of place here. Your use of terrain paint is excellent!

How clever and cute! You added dressing rooms! I love the patio areas and how you used the curtains there! I like to add a little heather atop the pergola roofs! You don’t have to but it might be an idea you’d like to try some time! I love your color choices for the reception area! Very beautiful landscape! Your use of terrain paint is excellent! You almost had too many pictures!

I love the wedding arch area! Great placement of the benches and lovely red carpet! So pretty with the flowers behind the arch! I love the dance floor area with the fountains in the background! Very pretty! The kids play area is nice but could use a little terrain paint to show attention to detail. Use a sand one around the sandbox for a little realistic feel of kids spilling sand out of it. Use a little brown dirt under the swing to show kids wearing down the grass… It doesn’t seem like much but it really adds a lot! I utterly love your beautiful fountain pond with the bridge!!! So pretty!

Week 112-113 - Advanced Results - Back to School, Bridgeport Style

Comments – Starting in the hallway, I like this already. It’s sophisticated without being too “over the top.” LOVE the mosaic tile around the doorway and the geometric design in the carpeting. Cute, eclectic entrance area. Looks very realistic. Love the re-purposed drums (? I’m guessing)) for book storage and the curtain room divider. Cute study area. Love the artwork in here. Nice idea to have separate vanities – very practical. Love the personal touches in the dorm rooms.

Suggestions – Not much to add here… vanities in the main living area might not be terribly practical, and the medium-green walls are a tad limiting – the light blue is a nice neutral color though.

Comments – Nice, crisp look in the entryway. Updated, but not overdone. Like the interior look. Great neutral look inside with enough personal touches to make it look livable. Cute and creative bedrooms. Like that you made room for four individual rooms – adds some privacy needed for studying. Love the individual personalities reflected in each room. Nicely efficient kitchenette. Love the recycling and laundry area built into the common hallway area.

Suggestions – Again, not much to add here… For an institutional space I would stick with identical wall coverings and flooring in all the bedrooms (looks like all but one were identical)

    And the Winner is...

    Aww Thankyou.
I've now included overview shots of the park. As for the rocks I didn't think of that, it's suposed to look as if they jut out the side just like natural waterfalls. But I'll try to make it better next time. This challenge was great for me as I'm planning my own wedding, and the one thing I wanted was a waterfall behind me.
