I actually made it for a shirt Placement to get the Freezer Bunny in the right place but I use it now for panel placement for the Fleur de Lis and the climbing Roses.
Thank you for sharing this tutorial! It is very helpful and easy to understand! You have created some very striking patterns! Really lovely! Going to take a look in your studio now!
Thanks for that tutorial Rflong7, I made this, and all the dots line up!
I can never remember the direction the X and Y go in- I made a copy of the grid- end of problem!
Thanks for the tutorial. I am guilty of starting up the manual...looking at it and closing it again. I hate manuals they are never clear. Having your tutorial with the Screen shots really helps.
What a wonderful 'find' this thread is for me. The tutorial is really helpful and well laid out and the discussions helped me too. I feel that I understand CAP more now. Wish I'd seen this earlier. Might have saved a few hairs...
Just wanted to drop in and tell you again how much I really appreciate this thread. I am still playing with recolorable vs Non recolorable patterns. Have not perfected that part yet. :-P Here is a link to the patterns in my studio.
i don't think i'd ever have got to grips with CAP without your thread! though it was about time i thanked you for it! passing it along to someone who emailed me about wanting to make patterns. it really should get stickied!
I do have a question, similar to a question that was asked earlier but was not answered.
I am looking to make a non-tiled pattern. Basically, the background is one solid color, and on it is a phrase. However, when trying to create this in CAP, I get this.
I don't want it tiled, I just want the one phrase, nothing else. Any idea of how to accomplish this? The kind of thing I'm going for is called "Wall Words".

Good question! It is something I've been wondering about too.

I suppose that I could use the pattern itself for one piece of a wall, for example, keep the trims the same, but the middle part replace with the wall words, but they seem to go good with a solid colored wall with no trim.
I'm now trying to figure out how to make my own wallpapers, but not finding anything. I imagine that a pattern normally is tiled anyway, which kind of makes my original question a bit dumb for this area. :?
Edit: I was actually able to do a workaround so there wouldn't be tiling. It's a matter of creating a pattern without the words, but a color. In game, using a wallpaper with both upper and lower trim to block out the tiling, and then coloring the surrounding walls with the simple colored wallpaper.
I need to make the words bigger obviously. I also think I may know how to create phrases and words that can take up a couple of sections of wallpaper instead of one section. I believe it's all a matter of cutting the wallpaper down the middle so it separates, creating separate patterns, exporting and installing, and then placing the two next to each other, and if you cut them right in the editing program, the two should come together seamlessly on the wall itself.
I'll practice with that when I get home from getting the dog groomed and see how it goes.
Edit 2: Had a bit of time to practice with this, and while I was right about cutting it right down the middle and being able to create a bigger "wall word", the problem is still in the tiling. As you can see, the top tiling was not covered fully by the trim.
I mean other than that, I love it. If only I could get rid of the frappin' tiling it would be so much better and less annoying. >.<
This is awesome! Which is how I labeled it in bookmarks... Thx - next time (tonight or tomorrow) when I open CAP I will also be right here for the help...

Bumping for the Weekend. . .
Here are a few patterns I would like to share. I used different things for the first level [Not background level] so I am not 100% sure the backgrounds are recolorable.
