Unable to Connect to the EA Download Manager

Every time I start the game I get a message saying 'Unable to Connect to the EA Download Manager'. The game plays fne but it's a bit worrying that I probably won't be getting any patches etc. It also means I can't download content from the store except from within the in game shop mode.

Any ideas?
