Error: Unable to start game, Service initialization failed--HELP!

I am getting an error "Unable to start game, Service initialization failed (0x6224dd27)" when I try to uninstall content from my launcher or start up my game (also get a black screen). I can't start my game, upload to the exchange or uninstall content from my launcher. HELP!!!!

I have Sims 3 base game, World Adventures, High End Loft Stuff and Ambitions.

I have already unistalled and reinstalled my EADM and did not get a prompt for an update.

    Hi,

For those receiving an EADM error message stating "The application failed to initialize properly. Please ensure you are not attempting to run multiple Windows accounts," you can check out the following user derived solution:

The download manager has a settings option (right-click on it in the System Tray) which allows you to change the location of the downloads. By default it was set to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EADM\cache\ which didn't exist on my machine. I created D:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EADM\cache\ and changed the setting to point to this.

Once you have adjusted the download location for EADM, quit EADM and launch it again.

My default download file in the EADM is C:\ProgramData\EA Core\cache\EADM\
I can't find this file on my computer. So should I creat this on my Disk Drive, which is my D Drive?

    Hi,

You cannot create directories on a read-only storage device such as a DVD drive or DVD-ROM disc. You can instead point the EADM cache directory to a different folder located on your C drive.

Thanks for clarifying Nichaedemus (thought I was missing something). I tried to correct the path but the EADM will not accept any path that does not go to the non-existant Program Data file. I moved it to: C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EA Core\cache\EADM. It adds that EADM on the end by it self. If I try to use anything in the C:\Program Files I get a message: EA Download Manager can not use your selected cache path. Still not working. Any other suggestions?

Try manually renaming the folder, removing the EADM from the end where it is appended. I'll continue looking into this.

Unfortunately, this did not work. I am unable to change the path with out the EADM refusing to work. I even had my husband who is a system administrator look at it and he can't think of anything else to do on this end short of a clean install but without knowing what the isssue is that may not help at all. I'm going thru Sims 3 DT's. Please continue to look into this and let me know when another fix is identified. Thanks guys.

Have you ever installed any mods, third party custom content, or items from the Exchange? Have you tried running the launcher as an Administrator?

Since you are running Windows 7, make certain the .NET Framework component is turned on. To do this open the control panel, then open Programs and Features, and then in the left column choose Turn Windows Features On or Off. You will see .NET Framework 3.5.1 displayed – if the corresponding box is not checked, click on the box once to checkmark it.

You can also try removing your player data files before relaunching the game. To do so, navigate to the following location:

    Documents/Electronic Arts

Now move (not copy) the folder named The Sims 3 to your desktop. Attempt to run the game.

Another thing to try is to quit EADM before launching the game, since it is only needed for downloading Store content or auto updates and is not required to play the game itself (with the exception of the in-game store).

It is also possible there are background tasks or processes (firewall, anti-virus, etc.) interfering with the launcher or game. If that is the case, you can try disabling them. Instructions can be found in the following EA Support article:

    http://easims.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/easims.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=10700

The following may also be of help:
    From SimGuru_BGY_11:
    Let's try this, also:

    1. Click Start or press the Windows key and R, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
    2. Click on Startup.
    3. Select disable All.
    4. Click on Services.
    5. Check the box that says Hide All Microsoft Services, then Disable All.
    6. Apply, then restart your system.

    -Big Guy-

Doing this will eliminate most of what might be interfering with the launcher or game running properly on a software level. After you are done playing the game repeat the above procedure, this time using the Enable All buttons to turn services and startup items back on.

You can also bypass the launcher by running the game executable directly:

    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Ambitions\Game\Bin\TS3EP02.exe

The file path shown is for default installation only. To make launching the game easier and faster, it is recommended that you create a shortcut to the executable file and place the shortcut on the desktop. The executable file of the most recent expansion is used to run the game.

Okay, I tried your suggestions and none of them worked except running the game from C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Amtitions\Game\Bin\TS3EPO2.exe. I can run the game, HOWEVER, I don't have access to the close to $100 worth of custom content I purchased from the EA store, I can't upload, download or make future purchases from the store since my launcher is now totally unresponsive. When it comes up I get a blue mini launcher message "The insallation is incomplete and the Sims 3 can not run. Please reinstall and try again". I restarted my computer and now the launcher comes up and I can launch the game but I get a black screen and a spinning circle pointer icon. Just keeps cycling. Oye Vey!!

Oh yeah, no mods just custom content from EA and other sites I know. Nothing from the exchange. I moved all my CC to my desktop when this first happened and it is still there.

I am having the same issues but I am not at home to see if what Nichaedamus suggested in another thread is the fix but thought I would give that info to you:

For those unable to uninstall Store or Exchange content by using the launcher, you can do the following to manually remove them from the game:

First, quit the game and the launcher. Now go into MyDocuments/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 and look for a folder called "DCCache". Delete everything inside of that folder, but do not delete the folder itself. Run the launcher again and then go to the Downloads tab. Notice that none of the items on the list will have an installed icon. You can now selectively install the items again as you normally would.

If launcher errors persist, you can also try removing all of your player data files before running the launcher. To do so, navigate to the following location:

    Documents/Electronic Arts

Now move (not copy) the folder named The Sims 3 to your desktop. Attempt to run the launcher.

You can also bypass the launcher by running the game executable directly:

    Base Game
    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TS3.exe

    World Adventures (EP1)
    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 World Adventures\Game\Bin\TS3EP01.exe

    High-End Loft (SP1)
    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 High-End Loft Stuff\Game\Bin\TS3SP01.exe

    Ambitions (EP2)
    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Ambitions\Game\Bin\TS3EP02.exe

The file paths shown are for default installations only. To make launching the game easier and faster, it is recommended that you create a shortcut to the executable file and place the shortcut on the desktop. If and when you have installed other expansions, the executable file of the most recent expansion is used to run the game.

If launcher errors persist, can you tell us which version of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable is installed? You can find out by going into Add or Remove Programs.

My Microsoft Visual C++ is version 1400. I can run the game from the executable but none of my store items are in the game. Still waiting on a fix.

Okay, out of frustration, I manually uninstalled the EADM and all my Sims 3 games using the instructions listed on this site. I then reinstalled everything. I no longer get the error message but my launcher is still non responsive. If I hit the play button the launcher locks and nothing happens. I can close the window via the icon on my task bar or use Task Manager to end the task.

I tried to place one store item in my launcher to see if I could get it to install. The launcher shows the item is there but I get the circle processing icon and then a message that the launcher is not responding and an option to end the task. I can access my game from my Program Files but I still don't have access to any of my Sims 3 Store items, ability to upload or download.

One problem solved and replaced by a new one. Any ideas?

I was looking around in the forums for information on my non responsive launcher and I found a fix from a fellow simmer (can't find thread now, sorry). He suggested I delete the cache files located undder Documents\Electronic Arts\Sims 3. The files are: CASPartCache.package, compositorCache.package, scriptCache.package and simCompositorCache.package. After I did that and opened my launcher it now works. I was able to put re-install my store items via the launcher, play my game and use the installed items.

So long story short, manual uninstall of EADM and all Sims 3 games using instructions listed in help index. Restart Computer. Reinstall EADM and then Sims 3 base game and your EPs/SP. If launcher doesn't work then delete cache files and try again. Hopefully that will work for you.

I was getting exactly that error too -- different address, same Initialization Failed error. Removing the contents of my DCCache did the trick (the issue seems related directly to a file called "dcdb0.dbc" and seems to contain most if not all of my custom content from third-party sites) and got the game booting again, but I'm really not thrilled about reinstalling all my non-Store items and whatnot!

I guess that'll learn me to mess with Sims Resource. Every time I think "oh it's just a few things in a lot download and it's such a pretty lot," I get burned. I've been immediately deleting lots that try to install custom content... until the last day or two when I let a few things pass. Obviously that was my mistake. I'm sticking with ModTheSims from here on out. This is just crazy. I just figured out that TSR content is exactly why I was getting that dreaded "blue lot" issue in my map views -- deleted all the CC I got from them and presto, no more blue lots and wow did my game ever run faster.

If you use Windows, Delphy's SimsDashboard is supposed to be a great way to figure out defective or buggy downloads, but I run Mac, so I guess I can go sit in the hall.
