Zoom to Cursor: for more intuitive zooming and navigation

With the ability of zooming out to see the entire neighborhood to zooming in to watch a fish play we really need a more intuitive zoom.

the current "zoom to center" mechanic is not intuitive, It is almost never that we want to zoom in on something that is perfectly in the center of our screen. we take notice of something in the corner of the house, move the camera somewhere near and zoom in only to have the zoom to center cause the desired point of view to slide off towards the edge of the screen. we are left moving the camera and zooming further. maybe even a third or fourth iteration of move and zoom more (now that we have such a distance to zoom over).

a "zoom to cursor" mechanism would prove much more intuitive, in fact it is prooven already in applications like Google Maps !.
could you imagine trying to use google maps with The Sims 3 current zoom system....
with zoom to cursor you place your cursor around what you want to examine and begin to zoom, the screen zooms towards the cursor as opposed to straight in.
the result is you get to see what you want in one smooth action, even if its at the edge of your screen to begin with.
it also means that you can navigate around simply with the zoom, much quicker than scrolling the screen in the direction you think you want to see. you can simply zoom out, identify what you want to look at in detail, and zoom straight into it.

Try out Google maps to see how well this work.
or try out Supreme Commander to see how well you are able to zoom out, locate what you want to see, and zoom into detail.
It is just a much more intuitive interface.

Please at least give us an option to use a zoom to cursor or zoom to center method. this would be a huge improvement to navigation in the game.

Enjoying everything so far,
Pixie and GeeK
