How To Change the Cover Shot on a Mac (for your lots)

Thanks Bill, I also appreciate the mac youtube how-to.

I've always avoided putting a custom pic for each png thinking it would make the file too large - but I can see the exchange will accept your 9.2MB file (your example above) without trouble, so I might try the slideshow technique for the next one.

The reason why postal does not work for custom avatar pictures is that the individual sim files (not the household ones) are stored in exports and are not the right file type. The lots are stored in library which make them the right file type. The library file type is called .package and the export ones are called .sims3pack. For some reason it is not possible to save sims to library.

I did mine in pc and moved the file back to Mac for uploading. It is a bit complicated but works if you are careful when replacing the file in your Mac. Maybe you have a friend or someone that can let you use their PC for this (alternatively use Bootcamp if you have it in your Mac). It is just to download the PC image changing program for that computer or for your Bootcamp side of Mac and follow the instructions from there on. You can move the files by using a memory stick.

I hope this makes sense, please ask if you need more help :)

    Hey mac people,

I think i found out how to change you avater picture:

1: make your sim and after you made your sim the way that you want click on the three dots by your sim's icon at the bottom of the CAS screen.

2: once it says sharing complete, exit out of the game and open the launcher, go to uploads and having your sim selected click below on the show file. double click on the package and it should DL the sim into the game.

3: having DL the sim, open Postal-GUI. Click File up at the top. then scroll Down to open.

    4. With the dialog opened, click on the drop down menu at to bottom of the window. Have the file format be All files.

5: go to user/documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims3/SavedSims and double click your sims name

6; I have no clue what PNG (image format) to change so I changed the large one and small one. The I click Commit, then saved the .sims file click yes on overwrite file.

7: last but not least, enter your game a upload the sim in which you changed. P.S The default image will be in the pre-made sims but once you've export it to the launcher you'll see the changed image in the launcher.

    8: I hope I helped

Grazya posted a new way to get the UIC to work using Mono on the Mac forums a couple of days ago:

    http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/334769.page

I have tried everything under the sun to get a custom avatar, and this is the only method that has worked for me :D Now I can finally upload some lots with custom pics as well.

    <---- case in point

:?: Uhh, well now I've gotten as far as end of Step 4. Then I get 'Choose an application to open document'. I click on Postal & the GUi.jar is greyed. I can't get past that step. I've gotten this far so don't want to abandon things yet. Help please. Denty

I am having the exact same problem, GUI.jar is grayed. So I uninstalled and installed again and will try the whole process again. kquinn, any advice? I do have snow leopard and Postal downloaded and installed just fine.

Thank you so much so posting this!! One question, could I do this if I wanted to add custom images of other parts of my lot (bedrooms, baths, etc..)?

    Bill answers this:
One thing I've been doing is changing all of the pictures for the lot slideshow. If your house has the maximum number of floors/levels, you should have 10 slots to work with. You can change all ten of them. Just start with "Icon house large" with "0x00000000" under the Group header as your first pic, import your PNG, and click Commit. Then move on to your next pic which will be "Icon house large" with "0x00000001" under the Group header as your second pic, import the 2nd PNG, click Commit, and so on. You can go through each successive numbered picture: "0x00000002," "0x00000003," and so on. That way you can have a complete slide show. There is also a Icon house large with "0x0000000A" that I haven't been able to change when it uploads to the Exchange. My PNGs are usually 400-600 KB.

    screenpy.jpg

I highlighted some of the usable picture slots in green. Just change them all "0x00000000" through "0x00000009" (if your house is maximum floor levels), click Save As, and do everything else described earlier to get it to the Exchange. Hope that makes sense, and this may have already been evident to everyone.

    Thanks again,
    Bill
NOTE: You can actually change them all, including the one he mentioned being unable to change, I have done it many times.

Basically, it provides 2 pics per level - the default ones are 'walls down' and 'walls up' per level, with the additional 'A' one he mentions. What you choose to put on each one is up to you - if you want to show the kitchen, go for it! :-)

    @alalla1311:

The game can be open, but it slows down the rest of the computer. I recommend doing it as suggested.

Also, would you mind editing the post so the first post stays on the first page. Thanks.

Okay, um, so...*sigh* okay I've TRIED doing EVERYTHING you've asked. (and yes, I have the most advanced version of snow leopard and am going to download OSX Lion soon) Tried sims AND households and doesn't work. :x Haven't done a actual building/lot yet since I REALLY want a good avatar pics...(they say you can't judge a book by its cover, but I know that we all do that most of the time. ) So...help? I went through the steps, even tried other peoples ideas on here for sims.

    I understand iPhoto and Photobucket.

But why do I need Photoshop?

(I HAVE got it, but it's a Student version and it was never validated.

I've been using trial packages from Adobe website ever since.

I've got one more chance to download trial then I'm no longer allowed.

It's just to make your pictures 512x512 PNG or with any image editing program. :-)
