Viewing your .dds textures so you don't have to guess

Mystic Thumbs .dds Viewer for Windows
Source Texture Organization

Instructions for installing your new textures:

When you download click on save and then download them where you can find them.
Okay now you have your files downloaded I will walk you through putting them into your game. I'll write this for beginners like I was just a few months ago.

Find your files and then open up Windows Explorer.
On the left hand side under Folders, go down to Documents,
then to Electronic Arts,
then to The Sims 3 Create A World,
then to UserToolData.
then click on SourceTextures.
Now just drag and drop the new .dds files into the SourceTextures file.

Make Your Own Textures

If you would like to try your hand at making your own textures here is a link:
The Easy Way to Create Terrain Textures or here is a quick tutorial:

Using Gimp

1. Get gimp, and the .dds plugin. Links here, and how to do the plugin, very easy...Free Image Editors for use with Caw

2. Pick a pre-existing texture from your Source Textures File. If you want pink grass, get a grass texture you like. Choose something that's not too dark.

3. Drag and drop this into gimp. you get a pop up like this, un-check the Load mipmaps box.

kbbng0.jpg

4. Click on "Colors" on the menu bar, and the "Hue-Saturation"

6sdg78.jpg

5. Now you get this pop up and you just mess around with the sliders.

15g9gm8.jpg

6. Under "File" click on "Save as", and name it, and click "Save".

2155zk.jpg

7. Then just save with these options, and your done.

1zdmalw.jpg

At this point I always do another "Save as" and save it as a jpeg. now when you are looking for your textures, you can see them.

You can also get your own new textures. Google "Free Seamless Textures" and you'll get a bunch of different sites with interesting textures. Just make sure they are cropped to 1024x1024, or 512x512. You'll lose some detail in the texture if they are 512, but for some textures you only use to highlight it's better to have them at the 512, they are a much smaller file size, which will help lower you're overall world file size.

Easy Peasy

Hey Ashillion! I love your "Stuff"!
I've been wanting to use your Eruption pack textures in like a cool Dantes Inferno type world. I have to finish my current project first though. I'm sure everyone would like to thank you for sharing your stuff :D

New textures added by Chellemh29 & Simsimillian.

Regina, I added your thread about your textures, but now I don't know if you've updated that thread to include what you've learned about the 512x512s. Let me know if you want me to take it out or not.

I don't know if i should post this here or ... But i had "some" problems with Regina's site??? My Firefox kept blocking the site saying it had some dangerious software it downloads without knowing it and has some trojans O.o???
I ended up just risking it cause i wonnit to get the terrains and it wasn't a problem it seems, (my bitdefender didn't complain afterwords.. :/ so maybe it was my comp. although i never had this error before except for Final fantasy XI where gilsellers send you e-mails to try and hack your accounts... .) but still might be something to look into if other ppl have this problem... .
Just thought i'd let you know, just incase... .

If Google and Firefox put one of those blocks in place, there's a good reason for it to be there. It makes you feel like a total plum when it's your site being blocked, but I'd rather my site be blocked if something like that happens than have someone accidentally picking up a piece of trash that someone decided to drop there.

I don't think I can emphasize quite strongly enough that if a person happens across a site with that block in place DON'T venture past it!

Basically a hole had been knocked into one of our fences and three of BogSims's pages were infected with malware at some point Friday. I didn't know about it until yesterday but as soon as I did went straight to work on it, then today our entire server has been run through a cleaning to make sure I got everything and to check for further vulnerabilities.

At this point everything is cleaned and secure and just waiting on the review from Google.

I'm not exactly sure what your asking?

Find your files and then open up Windows Explorer.
On the left hand side under Folders, go down to Documents,
    then to Electronic Arts,
then to The Sims 3 Create A World,
    then to UserToolData.
    then click on SourceTextures.
Now just drag and drop the new .dds files into the SourceTextures file.

I don't know, is this what you are referring too?

And for the second part of your question , if you are referring to the issues Regina has been dealing with at Bogsims Institute, as of yesterday her site was completly clean. Absolutly no threats. I think she spent the better part of a week going through every file. What a nightmare that must have been.

If you want to check in with her I'd post on her thread dealing with her textures, there is a link on the first page, below the links to her textures. She's not as likely to check this thread.

I hope I answered your questions, and congrats on your new computer!

Yesterday I uploaded updated files of the dirt and green granite textures, and included a couple that I haven't uploaded before that go with those. These new textures are meant to replace the old ones but for my own sanity I renamed them slightly so they'll have to be put in the Source Texture directory, then the texture in C-A-W edited to point to those files instead of the old ones and the old files deleted.

I tried to post yesterday but this site has been hating me for days now, and until yesterday I was just too sick to care. So, I'm going to try to post this and see if it works. (Hey, it worked!)

Quick Question: I really hope this isn't one of those 'always asked' questions... but I recently downloaded the textures into the 'SourceTextures' file and they work perfectly fine in CaW ... but when I go into 'Edit in Game' Mode.. it doesn't look quite as nice. Haha, For instance, I have two textures sort of overlapping in one area and in 'Edit in Game' only one texture is showing while the other has turned into this ugly pale brown... wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong? Should I not over lap textures? Really hate to be a pest. Thanks!!

i know  its been busy on here
i was actually looking to see if i could find a height map, but came across them :)
i found parts of a sort of transparent height map

but then i dont know what good the height map would do either, it seems EA's tool is more advanced than ours, because the water seems to be on two different levels

seems most of the questions being asked are fairly simple, people getting back into CAW since the update, perhaps we'll see a freakishly talented world builder emerge from the crowd :)
