Here's my problem: after finishing registering my World Adventures expansion pack, and duly spending all the free SimPoints that came with doing so, I attempted to start up my game. When I tried that, when it came to the main menu screen it came up with this error message: 'Unable to verify that your disc is a valid copy of Sims 3 World Adventures.'
The thing is my game is definitely not a pirated copy- I bought it from the same retailer I bought the base game from (and I never had any problems registering that). It was sealed and came with the booklet with the serial number and everything, I've never lent it out to anybody so it hasn't been registered under another person's account, and I've been able to play it fine the past three weeks I've had it.
Anybody else had this problem and what can be done about it?

This occurs when you have a virtual drive installed on your computer. Do you have a virtual drive installed like Alcohol 120% or Virtual CD?
Anyway here's further answer to your question. I think it's best that you find your answer from there.

Good luck.
