I have always supported Likes and Dislikes especially for food. What I also want is to have them remove Diet choices out of the Traits system to make it a separate basic set of choices. For example.
Sim's Diet Choice:
Omnivore
Pescetarian
Vegetarian
Lactose Intolerant (I believe it's already in the game)
Junk Food Junkie
It doesn't have to be and shouldn't be some over-complicated set of diet preferences to hit every niche diet choice out there but just something that slightly personalizes each Sim and opens up trait slots that would have been used on these types of choices for another kind of personality choice. My POV is that Diet choices aren't a personality trait they are a preference.

Maybe they could add them to the lifestyles, so depending on your sim's food choices they get a label. If they eat exclusively vegetarian dishes a few days in a row then they get the option to call themselves vegetarians. For lactose intolerance, they could develop the trait if they don't drink milk for a few days and the longer they avoid it the more difficult it would be to cure it.

Sorry I'm not really into anything with this game having to "learn" my Sims preferences. I prefer to set them myself.

Well, we set those preferences but they still ignore them. With the lifestyles, they simply keep track of your sim's habits, it doesn't learn anything. If they meet the threshold of repetitive behavior then they gain a lifestyle and get extra socials to enforce and maintain it. Lately, I've taken a similar approach to likes and dislikes and use them to keep track of what a sim likes and prefers to do as autonomous behavior.
I don't really care my sims either be sipping plasma or eating garden salad anyway
but then again I find it weird infants can like or dislike food but not older sims
so maybe there should be something like "Simmingal ate too much ramen and feels unwell is this a sign that Simmingal dislikes ramen?"
but tbh we already have too many recipes in the game for that and I'm not into diet options though cause I'm not into disliking/liking entire food categories
like theres almost always something I hate and something I love inside one food category
drinks though sounds simple enough
cause if you don't like coffee you probably won't like it in any shape or form and theres less options in drinks
