It's time for some boring middle-age, middle-class kits

JALJAL Posts: 1,128 Member
While I do love the variation of clothes again, it's sometimes frustrating how much of it is clearly aimed at the young adult - or even teen - market. Crop tops. Skirts that end high up on the thigh. Jeans with rips and holes... to just name a few.

I feel there is a market for the adult, middle aged, middle class, boring ordinary sims, so therefore I suggest not one, but several kits aimed at this group of sims. Namely:

A dressy coats kit:

Dressier outerwear for fall and winter. A classic trenchcoat, chesterfield coats, an old fashioned faux-fur, classic leather jackets, duffle coats, heavy wool military style jackets with lots of buttons... the coats and jackets would primarily be closed so that you can't see what is underneath to make it fit more sims, the shorter styles would be jackets to fit over any bottom. Most jackets and coats should come for both female and male frames.

The well dressed man kit:

A menswear kit for the adult men. Well cut suits, both with and without vests. Well cut trousers that does not show the ancle in browns, grays, black and a few colors. Chinos. Well cut and whole jeans in primarily darker colors (bonus if they work for both frames). Sweaters and sweater west in discrete patterns where the shirt does NOT hang outside. Shirts, T-shirts, polo-shirts and tank tops that tuck into pants (there is seriously only a single tank top that tuck in for men. 1!!!). Some ordinary white, blue, striped and checkered boxers...

The business woman kit:

Some more suit-jackets without tie, both the tailored look and a straighter look. Pants that are well cut and does not stop at the ankle. Skirts that actually reach the knee (just above or just below) in a variety of colors and shapes. Pencil skirts, a-line skirts, flared, creased... in browns, grays, navy, checkered, striped... classic colors that match whatever. Shirts and tops that tuck in. Some really high waisted pant and skirt that can meet the longer crop tops in game and make those usable in game (there are some that I really like the look of but never use because they show the midriff).

An accessories kit:

SHOES: A greater variety of loafers, canvas shoes in navy, black, white and brown, some nicer looking heals (a variety of styles and heights). WATCHES: there are far too few watches in game. A variety of styles and sizes would be nice. GLASSES: a few more different frames, classic as well as modern. Maybe throw in a few hats as well.
Moreover, I advise that the cart button must be destroyed!

I'm YA still but this made me feel thousand years old 👵 I like full coverage at all times
and I don't want all my clothes to look like they went to meet Greg even if I like some alt styles

I'm not much of business gal either to be honest

but for gals I think I struggle most in formal category because most of the fancy dresses we have are chest/back exposing, bodycon, sleeveless, short and so forth. realistic tbh as that is sad state of fashion irl too but sometimes Simmingal just wants to dress fancy and these little towels ain't doing it for her

also desperately need more heels and heeled boots I always use same ones from base game cause others are chunky or have weird straps or something which does not match whatever outfit i had in mind

Yes. I have a hard time dressing older female sims especially. And even young adults need some more modest and comfortable clothes, because not every young woman wants to wear tight jeans, short skirts, or revealing tops.

Also, I am 100% on board for @JAL 's suggested "Dressy coats" and "Well dressed man" kits. With items like what are described, I would totally buy those.

@Simmingal I've been middle aged in this regard since I was 20, so I completely understand the need to cover up :) And I do agree with the shoes and fancy dresses. I would love some more classic options. How about some beautiful dresses inspired by the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s? most of those looks work today as well and does not look like you couldn't afford enough fabric.

As for the "business woman", name it something else if you'd like. The point is boring clothes you'd wear to work or school or just out about town.

Yes I would like something like that like with some nice slacks and dress shirt not showing cleavage, like a turtle neck or a short sleeve top. More Flat shoes.
More Polo like Ralph Laurens with Trousers or long sleeve button up shirt I'd also like a shirt with pens in the pocket you know like little details.

I'm middle aged (45). I just wear t-shirts and jeans all the time like I did in highschool. The only difference is I rarely wear flannels these days. I have a few nice shirts I wear with nicer jeans when hubs and I go out on a date. My husband dresses the same way, except when he's on camera (he's a remote computer programmer), then it's Polo shirts and jeans. The only CAS kits I've purchased were the Goth and Grunge ones.

I do get what you're saying though. There isn't as much conservative looking stuff as there is other stuff, for those who would like it.

I never dress my Sims in things I hate in real life. And I hate turtlenecks! I don't like collars anywhere near my neck. My mom used to buy me turtlenecks growing up and if she insisted I wear them, I cut the turtleneck off. I was glad when she finally got the point. I actually haven't seen one in years, are they still in fashion?

@lisamwitt One of the things I actually like with kits is how easy they are to pick and choose from. It's just things you either like or not like, be it clothes or furniture or building details. It's easy to pick what fits your playing style. I am actually one of the few I've seen who didn't hate the modern menswear kit. I like that the option is out there for those who do want it - I just would never buy it for myself. But I prefer specific clothes like that in kits, because then they are optional.

As for whether this would be a middle class kit, or a middle age kit, or a business woman kit or something else... well I'm sure there are people better at naming things than I am. LOL

I'd buy it. The Sims needs more "mom and dad" clothes.

I agree, kits are perfect for this sort of thing. You get what you want and don't get what you don't want and it costs as much as a cup of coffee from Starbucks.

Hey, Middle-age is so not boring. It's a new phase in life without the foolishness of youthful mistakes. Also it's so the young-at-heart. We Middle-agers came from the Awesome 1980s & Retro 1990s. Now as for Kits: I'm thing Awesome 80s Rock Bands & Neon Fashions. B)
