How do you get rid of friendship bracelets? [Growing Together]

I had my 2 married Sims exchange friendship bracelets. They have since divorced but I can’t find a way to get rid of the friendship bracelets. When I hover over a bracelet in the inventory there is a grayed out destroy button and a message appears that says “This item cannot be sold or deleted. You must wait for the bracelet to fall off or demand your original bracelet back.”
I made both Sims despise each other, friendship and romance bar all the way red, and went through the pie menu but couldn’t find anything relating to a friendship bracelet.
I ended up using MCCC to clear both Sims inventories to remove them but I’d like to know the proper way to do it through gameplay.
So how do you get rid of the friendship bracelets? Is there an option to remove them and I missed it or how long does it actually take to fall off?
